In this video, Sam will walk through the new Rokoko Plugin for Blender and show you how easy it is to retarget motion capture and character animation data. The plugin is free and allows you to easily, quickly, and accurately retarget your motion data onto your own characters. This has really transformed the way you can work with motion data in Blender and we think this is currently the best workflow out there.

One thing this video does NOT tell you is when you edit the animation pose to fit your model skeleton. You have to make SURE you have "Current" selected under the "Use Pose" path directly above Retarget Animation. If you do not do this it will not retarget properlly.

By far the best mocap solution I've seen for Blender. Mixamo is dope too, but those aren't our own movements.

Great to see Rokoko giving Blender this love!!! Be cool to see a video using this work flow with the Action Editor to create a library of action strips from different sources and then blend between them in the NLA. With facial performance and lip sync coming out of another stand alone ap as an adjustable layer on top? :)

Indeed. May have to use this program to start creating dances and AO animations for Second Life and OpenSim platforms. Will be awesome. Hope we can do Bento anims with this as well. 🙂

This is awesome. Just what I needed. One question, if the A-pose model still has problems even after I make the motion capture bone into an A-pose, how should I go with debugging this.

ok the add on is awesome but a quick question please! if i am using mo cap that is in treadmill mode exported to blender then its easy to rotate around the pivot point but if the mo cap data is using locomotion and say for e.g my character is doing a fight combo moving forwards about 10 feet and i want to adjust his rotation slightly so he is facing 20 degrees left, as the pivot point is back at the OG starting point, i cannot turn the character on a dime, i.e a tight turn, it makes a big wide arc as the pivot point is 10 feet behind him. i tried attaching an empty to the armature for control, and although position is fine, rotation is way off. so does anyone have an idea how to pivot/rotate for center of a characters body in locomotion mode or is it just best to use treadmill to avoid this problem please?

Are you okay with it if i separate that retargeting panel into its own panel. I dont have anything of Rokoko but find that retarget super nice. I just want my GUI to be clean and not show unneeded stuff

I've got a question regarding 2:29. Retargeting works great and the animation plays on the targeted bones as intended. But when I delete the original bones the animation disappears and hasn't copied over. Any way to fix this?

Como faz o download do esqueleto captando todos os movimentos? por exemplo da cabeça. quadril, peitoral etc? na rokoko tem como gerar um mocap apartir de um video qualquer que eu enviar, ele captura o movimento e lhe entrega o esqueleto fazendo a dança do video. porem ele nao pega todos os movimentos em si do video sempre fica com o pescoço, cabeça e quadril duro, fica como se fosse um robô dançando, gostaria de saber como eu faço para melhorar isso e fazer com que meu personagem fizer um movimento real a do video

Hi! You can retarget multiple animation on one character in Blender for example. New action will be created each time you retarget. It should be similar to other programs. Rokoko is used only to record and edit mocap data.

We will definitely launch a real-time plugin for C4D at some point, but we don’t have it at this moment. However, we have a bunch of tutorials showing the workflow there. My arms didn't appear correctly because my models don't have shoulder bones. I deleted them and works perfectly now...

I missed that little detail last time LOGIN. My most powerful machine for animation is an off line machine. I don't want the internet and all the risks that come with having an online machine to do work on my projects. I guess I'll have to use my slow laptop to do setups then transfer the files. What a pain.

Hi, I tried this and it works great! But when I try to import the mesh/armature/animations into Unreal Engine, for some reason, the animation fails to import with an error: Specified Skeleton do not match fbx imported skeleton. Cannot import animations with this skeleton. Which seems odd because its exactly the same skeleton, and the animation was working just fine in blender.

@@RokokoMotion Thanks for the response. I found out that it works in version 5. I thought I could transfer it to my EA project after importing in version 5, but EA version wont recognize them. I really REALLY don't want to re-make my entire environment again in version 5. Why does UE version compatibility have to be such a nightmare

Possibly, we'll definitely try that! I'm not sure if that will work because you need to match the mocap animation to the rest pose of the actual geometry, not the skeleton of the geometry.

I'm getting pretty close with the generated rig. Looks like it's a matter of making sure the bonelist is accurate before Retargeting. If anyone has a .json of the Rebuild Bone List that works with a default Rigify Generated Rig (Human Basic) I'd appreciate it.

I am using a recorded rokoko animation and a base model off mixamo in a t pose. When I try this plugin for retargeting it gets everything except the hips. The tutorial hints at being able to add a custom bone but doesn't show how? Has anyone been able to add the hips or run into this issue?

If you have an existing BVH animation running in Blender then you can retarget the rotations onto a different rig, yes 🤓

@@RokokoMotion I actually loaded the factory settings, which removed my add-ons. Afterward I tried to add Rokoko again, but got that same error. Then I restarted blender, and suddenly Rokoko is working.. weird.

Im having issues as well. I put the animation in pose mode, make the skeleton the same pose, retarget and arms are still crossed must be a simple fix. Its obvious the retarget isnt seeing the change in pose.

I am sure this won't get answered, but I will ask anyways: My initial thought with this as well as the new AI assisted mo-cap workflow you guys have created is that you theoretically could use this retargeting addon for UE5 Metahumans. Has anyone here tried a workflow like that? I imagine that this retargeting addon would not work for MH skeletons, which means that they would have to be re-rigged with a regular skeleton from Rigify in Blender, then reimported into UE5 with that differentiating skeleton. With that, you would lose lots of customization in terms of facial animation since UE5 skeletons are rather extensive. Regardless, anyone tried that yet? ^

You can absolutely get this all working with Metahumans - either by retargeting in Unreal using the standard workflow, or by livestreaming into the Metahuman - no re-rigging required! Just need to create the bonemaps for the retargeting :)

Huh - that's no good! Sorry you're encountering that issue. I would try posting on the Rokoko discord, the only other thing I would make sure to check is that the auto bone mapping in the plugin is correctly identifying each hand - sometimes the auto bone mapper can get messed up and confuse bones with each other, in which case you can use the drop down menu to manually make sure the bones of the mocap and character match. I hope that helps!

I tried it once more tonight and the bone comparison is a bit off. I got tons of empty bones and it also added wrong bones. It would bones which have a prefix while the actually bone is in there. The rig is like 98% the same in terms of bone naming. I see you using a dict to loop over. BUt i dont see any code which actually check the bones from the sources and compares it to the target. I know this other addon which also seems to work nice, that one can even make adjustments on top it. But i cant get that one to work. Though i think that adjustment feature is really nice. My first try using your addon got a super weird pose because the differences in the models. Not sure your addon can do this one. Ther source has much shorter legs and arms. But i see you addon also seems to be copying bone position, which makes it look super weird, at least in my case This is that other addon github.com/Mwni/blender-animation-retargeting
