So everyone asking " Why would I need a Smart Suit " I'll be doing a video comparison on my channel with Rokoko doing over some of the difference but I think the A.I. tool is a great solution for those that want to quickly iterate and knock out some animations and for those that needed a more affordable solution but as of now a proper motion capture suit solution is still ideal for more complex situations. 🤙🏿

Right off the bat, I've got to say that I love the approach that at the very beginning it is noted that this is not the silver bullet for mocap, but is a viable alternative where you may have to clean things up afterwards. While I was working on something similar with the Kinect years ago, I was able to solve some of the problems by using a two-color suit, a mantle and a leg of each color, so the CV understood which arm and which leg would be in front during walking recordings. beside. If you face this problem in the future, I leave this tip. Looks like a great tool, it will help a lot of people! I wish you much success!

Update: I got it to work. For anyone else reading this: connect a model aka actor to the animation clip then double click on the clip. It will populate the scene. (Same comment is in Discord) All is well and I plan to use the pump out of this feature! There is a problem. The character isn't connecting to the action. Once I am able to figure out why that's happening, I'll say the following below with more conviction: This is perfect for people like me who may have a suit but can't do certain things with the suit. With this, I now hire martial artist to do more intricate and in depth fighting scenes. I'm super excited! I already have my eye on a couple of fighters who I plan to reach out to so thanks a bunch, Rokoko, for forever stepping up to the plate!

How long can we record or upload videos to turn into animation? If my video is longer than 5 minutes, will I be asked to trim it down before proceeding?

The only limit is the size of file that's currently max 300 MB if you're uploading. Otherwise whether you trim your vid or not it's totally up to you! :)

I was wondering if Rokoko Video Free AI motion capture will track facial and hand motions for free as it expands in the future. Or would you put up a paywall in the future, making it no longer free for everyone? What is the best skeleton type to export when importing motion data into Blender? Only FBX export works for me, while BVH file export reports that it has been exported despite the fact that I cannot find the exported file anywhere. I doubt you'll ever need more than 2 minutes per mocap, if you need long sessions then the best course is to get a suit. My opinion of course

Having Rokoko Studio be available and compatible with Linux would be a lifesaver for I'm sure not very few people! It's an amazing tool, but always a pain on Linux in either a VM or switching (Yes I know Wine exists but at that point you might just use Windows)

It sounded so promising, but I don’t have an Apple silicon mac, nor does the old rococo program work. Even on Windows on my iMac, I couldn’t install it. It’s a shame. Is there a reason why Intel Macs are not supported? As far as I know, you only have to compile the binary for both systems

Such a big step up compared to NVIDIA's pose tracker AI, wow. Nicely done! I've been trying out many different pose trackers these past few weeks, from experimental github repos to nvidia, and this has to be the smoothest one I've seen so far! I don't know how yinz did it, but this will be a blessing to so many indie game devs:)

This is neat! I can’t help but wonder, what if you guys combined this system with the Rokoko Smartsuit workflow? As in, the user links up two or more cameras positioned around the performance space and they film the Smartsuit performance? That way the software could have additional data to go on that it can compare back and forth with the inertial data. All the Smartsuit’s positional information is inside out, so could the tracking theoretically be enhanced by cross referencing it with an outside in approach? I have no idea, but maybe there’s a chance it would be a ‘best of both worlds’ situation. You’ve probably already discussed something like this internally since you live and breathe mocap and are much smarter than me, but I thought I’d throw it out there.

This is amazing! Any plans to integrate like the smart gloves only so you can mocap the hands together with the video mocap that would be next level! It would maybe also clean up the occlusion when the hands/arms cannot be detected, but the smart gloves can and can help the AI to fix it. This could be a new workflow for budget studios or indie devs that cannot afford a suit yet.

As a hobbyist who loves animation this truly is amazing, especially after years of frustration with Kinects, cables, USB interfaces and expensive software subscriptions. As a suggestion, would it be possible in the drop-down option to export BVH data in Poser or DAZ format? At the moment, it's easy to edit the joint names in notepad, but, for me, that would be even more fantastic! Keep up the amazing work! :)

This is great, only draw back is that's online only. So far all the online only 3D stuff have either been bought out by corporations or closed down. So I much rather prefer offline software. That way you get to keep the magic even if worst comes to worst. But still good to see n free online only for now resource around.

Hey Nathan! Thanks for the feedback. We are still investing massively on improving the capture experience and we have a lot of releases planned. As you might imagine, we are working on multiple fronts at the same time - improving the capture tools, improving the software, and releasing tools that can make mocap even more intuitive and accessible. We're going to have a super cool product webinar very soon and we will go through the vision and plans. We decided to release Rokoko Video now because there are millions of creators who want to get started with motion capture but do not have the means to access our hardware tools or need a very simple entry tool to their animation journey. But we haven't forgot all of our Rokoko users of course, and most of our efforts still go to supporting the development of our hardware.

Looks great so far. did a quick test and the results in studio look really good considering the cost. Just trying to figure out how to get that into Blender as playing about with the options yields some odd bone angles. Any tutorial on Studio into current blender would be epic!

This is really cool! I been using it a lot now but one thing I’m struggling with is combining animations on Blender, how do I combine two animations on a character in Blender?

I would love to use Rokoko video more since it's free but it seems like Wonder Studio (although is paid) is a better option at the moment for extracting mocap data from a video (camera can be moving, more than one character can be on screen, full body doesn't need to be in the frame, multiple clips can be processed simultaneously) any plans in the near future to add similar features?

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Question: Do we need to be paid customers in order to have access to the export advanced settings? I am trying to select "Skeleton: Unreal", but, as a free user, the Advanced settings are locked for me. I saved the FBX file anyway, and I imported it to Unreal Engine, but the MetaHuman only moves the head, not the body. Is it supposed to be that way?

i guess its free now, so many people use it, make it popular, give feedback. same with the contest: offering a couple of suits and gloves as prizes to make as many people as possible really try and work hard to get the most out of the tool, creating nice advertising material for rokoko with thousands of hours of efford put in almost for free. then, once the ai mocap is starting to get really usefull, it will be monetized. i guess subscription or payPerUse. but thats simply my guessing and i dont think it is something to complain about.

@@mm-hl7gh For now it will be free and if by any chance Rokoko turns their back and make it a 100% paywall then they will have a bonk in the head from me (Still love ya Rokoko). All I can say is use the tool as much as you can and also there are many other webcam-based mocap solutions such as DeepMotion and ThreeDPose tracker as alternatives, even another competitor AI Text to Mocap programs exists. But enjoy the tool while it's here and free unless Rokoko themselves says it's free forever then go wild.

hey guys please do provide clarity on select local video option. When i create a new scene I no longer get the option. Could you please clarify ... is this now a dropped feature. Do understand if youve changed directions but a clear response would really help us confirm that this isnt a temporary glitch (or something wrong at our end)

Thank you Rokoko! This is rather incredible. Silly question maybe, but would beginning and ending each clip in a T-Pose help? T-Pose - action - T-pose? Very new to all of this.

It might help - honestly this is still so new that we're also pushing the limits for how to best use it. A tpose might help - also maybe doing a little hop so that there is a clean foot position for the rest of the take - but really just playing around with the tool is the best way to find the best quality workflows!
