I got this synth now, and it's interesting to note that the patches Jexus has created here are easily replicable. Whereas the patches he made on the DX7 were so out of this world I never figured them out. The Alpha Juno is a much simpler synth to program too. I like it a lot. It doesn't match the DX7 for bells and glassy hit sounds in general, and the DX7 sound is more suitable to ambient, but the Alpha Juno betters it by producing powerful dark sci-fi synth sounds - suits harscher music.
@juliaseppi22055 жыл бұрын
It won't do the bells as well as there's no FM on the alpha, they only look similar because of the mbrane buttons, 2 totally different synths, cheers.
@georgegeorgio1751 Жыл бұрын
No the Alpha is suited to many styles i program funky brass , leeds and bass and of course you can also get great sci fi sweeps and pads etc.

@Olorintube I agree with your comment. It's like he says himself: "showing you not what a synthesizer can do, but what a man can do with a synthesizer." Jexus loves dark 80's vibes and C64 computer games, so that's what we get to hear in his demos, regardless of synth.

@MrKnnknn The noise on a Juno 2 very much sounds like that. It's one of the reasons it's my favorite Juno. I own a 106 and a 60 and my most inspirational stuff comes from the Juno 2. Only thing that hurts is having to edit it from a VST.

This thing is SO POWERFUL for a one oscillator synth. I love mine and wouldn't give it up for anything. Roland really knew what they were doing back in the 80's. These things last forever if maintained correctly. Too bad Roland is degrading they're legacy with crappy re-issues. (Except the TR-8)

I'm actually very curious what you think of the Deepmind, since it was based in part on the Juno 106. I'd also be curious if it is capable of anything this gritty and charismatic.
@johnfdm12313 жыл бұрын
Fun! I particularly like the noisy patches you're demonstrating here - some sounds one doesn't typically associate with an '80s digital-analogue synth. Gotta love the total programmability of these old synthesizers. (I've had an Alpha-Juno 2 since 1986, and still enjoy playing around with it from time to time. It can do a few things the newer synths don't do -- just too bad it has such limited polyphony.)
