It's sad that so much trance music has become so cheap now. This type of sound was how I was introduced to trance as a kid and loved it. I could rock out to it or even fall asleep to it. Didn't matter, I just couldn't get enough! Then it seems like around 2010 almost everyone started composing this new crap. Even artists from before then went and changed their style. Thank you for this! It brings back so many pleasant memories!

I remember going into the music store all of the time just to play with the JP-8000. I wanted one SO badly when they came out, but couldn't afford one. Around 2002 or so a friend of mine had one and wanted to trade it. He wanted the MC909 Groovebox. I said done and bought one off of ebay and traded him for his JP-8000. I still have it. Don't think I will ever get rid of it. I certainly never used it for trance despite also writing electronic music. The JP-8000 also had the ability to create really dark and interesting sounds and that's why I wanted it.
@vapemcvaperson2 жыл бұрын
You hit the nail on the head. Same for me (I've owned 2 now) I never used it for happy ethereal string pads trance but I used it for amazing dark bass lines that morphed and thick leads and pads and many evil risers, drops and sound design in general plus that feedback knob on a midi synced clock in the delay fx section is awesome!
@sydneymeanstreet3 жыл бұрын
Iconic synth. Like it or not Roland really helped define the genre with the 8000. The rack model looks a bit sturdier than my keyboard, with its plasticky case and wobbly knobs, but both of them share that lovely blue/black/orange panel.

I could not agree more. Being able to make ‘just 4 to the floor’ music that is even interesting to people who do not dance (like me) is a real gift. It is all about using the layers of sound to tell a story. Not only going for the ‘climax to drum roll to kick+bass’ trick…

I picked one of these up a few months ago and it was like owning an artifact of my childhood, heaven in a blue box. The JP-8000/8080 always had this ethereal, otherworldly, almost emotional sound to it heard in tracks from 4 Strings, Faithless, Darude, Armin Van Buuren, etc. And while it is the "de facto" trance synth it makes a good supplement for other genres too (as you demonstrated with that epic Alpha Juno hoover recreation at 7:40). The JP is absolutely timeless

The track you made for this video is officially my favorite of all the videos you've released Jonas! Then again, like 50% of what I listen to is trance from between 1997 and 2005 😂 Nothing beats that JP-8080 Supersaw sound that dominated Anthem Trance from 1999 to 2001 and I don't care if it's cliche or cheesy! The Supersaw defines trance, especially because trance was the most popular dance music genre in the world when the Supersaw sound dominated trance. Fantastic job again! Make more classic sounding trance and release it as a single please 🥺 It's been time for a revival of the old sound! Look at the fanfare and immediate popularity of the new Enigma State release - In My Fantasy/Enigmatic! Enigma State has already sold all 500 vinyl copies that were made, and the digital release apparently has been quite lucrative, especially for an independent label release! Think about it please?

Love lead you’ve created. The Roland JP-8000 (and JP-8080) are one of my most favorite hardware synthesizers of all time. Unfortunately I don’t have the hardware anymore. But I’ve found a virtual soft synth that’s really a gem and is available for the iPad. It’s called Sunrizer Synth made by Beepstreet and based on the legendary Roland JP-8000. It’s really awesome. Hook up my MIDI keyboard and I’m good to go. The price is only €9.99 in the App Store. If you own an iPad, I can highly recommend Sunrizer Synth.
