As an Irish rock music fan/musician.I hated dance music. I really hated it. After a late gig the only local bar was a night club where the local musicians would get together and it would be what the DJ played. Fast forward to working in an Irish Bar in Ibiza in 1999. The barmaid thought I should appreciate dance music as it was the dance capital of the world then, so she took me to Amnesia. The whole experience was quite spectacular and in the middle of the dance floor with steam machines, flashing lights,lasers and a really cool DJ playing Ferry Corsten's Out of the Blue I fell in love with the Supersaw sound, The Roland JP8000/8080, dance music and the barmaid. 23 years later and I still love them all. Great video!

Humor ≠ Meme. I would just like to point out that I don’t follow meme culture or even look at memes (bc its mind numbing trash) and I got every single joke and nuance w without referencing any memes. I even went back and researched what I may have been missing. Nothing. Unless you stop following meme culture and using it to interpret reality at every instance you might as well just unplug your ISP and exclusively watch cable news on dish tv like a boomer or something bc you would probably, ironically be be more informed at this point. This is what internet culture is doing to people. Memes are supposed to be references to cultural familiarities, but here we are perceiving culture as a reference to a meme… which itself was a reference to begin with? Tf bro. Does anyone even think anymore or do anything without a meme to reference for programming? Wait, this is a talent? Lol. How terrifying.

Back in 1999/2000 made many nice tracks with this unit. Honestly can't find any flaws in the way this synth performs, it solved so many automation problems in a time when computers were slow and VSTi's were still in their infancy. I have a patch I named "SlapYoMama" that is one of the deepest, subwoofer assaults of all time. I've also gotten some great, trippy pads out of her that have some very nice movement. The presets on this synth are super lame, but if you get in there and do some work (what's the point of having all those knobs and sliders if you don't?), you can pull out all sorts of killer sounds. If any, this (or rather the JP8000) is the last synth I 'need' in my collection of epic 90's eurodance/gabber synth legends! Once and yet again kudos for yet again a hilaric vid! New Kids included 😁 I definitely need to go to Vienna one day, or a week, I'll bring my QS when I do, you can finally do a BG on that baby then 😬

Nicely balanced review as always - its' definitely a classic Roland by this point, it became an icon, up there with the TB and the TRs. I've only been hands on a few times on one, but it was the pads and strings I loved from it - they have a beautifully dark sound to them that I can't actually coach out of my JP6!! Thanks as always! I belt you felt both dirty and excited at the same time, doing that trance tune ;-)

Simply because mid 90s to early 2000s trance is my favorite genre and time period of electronic music, the JP-8080 is perhaps the synth I have the biggest softspot for. IMO the JP-80X0 synths have the best supersaw of all the important VA synths that were used extensively in trance (although the Access Virus is perhaps tied with it - or at least very very close). I would kill for a JP-8080, but with those insane prices, it ain't happening anytime soon!

My JP-8000 is a weird one for me. I wanted to sell it so many times but every time I pull it out of my closet I just can't let it go. After a while it lands again in the closet and the the cycle starts over.

Same with mine, every time I get the "eh, I could use the money..." thoughts and land my eyes upon my JP8k, all it takes is one jam session of thicccccccc pads with a huge stereo spread across some good speakers and I've fallen in love all over again.
@AudioPilz2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's one of these synths!

Plug it into a Virus TI and let 'er rip with the Virus reverb and phaser That'll give it a fresh vibe that'll send it straight into your next song!

The last Roland synth that defined a genre... The end of R's golden years that included Jupiter 4/6/8, the SH synths, TB-303, the Juno series, D50, JD880 and lastly the JP8000/8080, a dream run from '78 to '97!

Why stop there? The V-Synth/VP-9000 was crucial to the sound of mid-2000s psy such as *Shpongle* [Hallucinogen/Simmon Posford] and *Infected Mushroom,* both hugely influential and if you haven't heard them yet - well I envy your uh, _virginity!_
@lundsweden Жыл бұрын
Good point about the V- Synth and the VP9000... Roland don't chase ghosts apparently, but have been doing so since the 80s (1988's R8 drum machine had 808 samples). This has become more and more pronounced, now Roland's current lineup appears to be 100% rehashed late 70s to early 90s classic gear. I'm guilty of supporting this too, I have a JU-06A!

@klontjespap Жыл бұрын
lol i just dropped a comment about the mc-505 a friend has had since it was pretty fresh, i got to play with it in 2012, and he wasn't even aware on how explotiable the ADSR sliders were for live expression, i had a blast riding that release and decay to really give those leads or arpeggios some life as long as you knew to rotate the knob to the correct the channel for the modulation/fx in time properly, since you can only have one at a time, it was very very workable. the drum kit selection was pretty vast and decent too, which is to be expected from the likes of roland (and yamaha on the digital sampler keyboard side), they historically had some pretty nice drum kits with a nice variety
