Fox Sports 1's Jason Whitlock says he does not vote and does not trust politicians.
During Thursday's "Great Debate" on #RolandMartinUnfiltered, Roland Martin challenged Whitlock on his stance on politics and voting reminding the Fox Sports 1 host that politics are involved in an overwhelming number of issues that we have to deal with.
Martin also explained voting is one of the only ways to address the political issues that have an adverse impact on our communities.

Yeah, Whitlock is confusing. I will say this however. He has a right to decide for himself if he wants to vote or not. Roland brought up MLK. MLK did not die for us to vote for rotten politicians who ain't gonna do shit for the black community. As a citizen in this country ain't nobody- Roland included- going to force me to vote against my own interests. And with the last election, neither the wicked witch from the East, nor the Great Pumpkin had my best interests in mind. So yes, I didn't participate.

Greetings, @williamsmith1808. You are correct. We must do something. The Texas in me says, we can trust in man's mutable, legislative laws of the land until the cows come home, but unless and until we skillfully use the KINGDOM WEAPONS to engage the POWER OF OUR TONGUE; by superimposing the immutable, spiritual laws of God's kingdom over the laws of the land, the gates of hell will not be moved. Satan and the demonic host ARE NOT subject to the laws of mankind. So, what must we do. Some will run with the political vision of the democratic platform; some will run with the political vision of the republican platform. As an Independent, Habakkuk 2 voter, I was guided to READ both political visions. The problem is voters are voting for their choice of candidates; irrespective of the political policies (VISION) of the political platform with which they are are choosing to run.

African Americans must continue the struggle to be come respected in this country. That means voting! You can't change anything if your voice is not heard or having our presence at the table to have REAL talk ( not kanye west!). Not voting means you simply don't care. @@tonyasmith2595 Well I respectfully disagree with you in terms of a white man not being able to stop you from doing what you want. Black people were slaves until white men changed that. Black people weren't able to vote until white men changed that. Women weren't able to vote until white men changed that. Without Affirmative Action you couldn't go to the schools you wanted or get the jobs you wanted. Before desegregation black people couldn't even eat or use the bathroom where they wanted. If this new Supreme Court has their way, women wont be able to make their own reproductive choices. They will allow employers to decide if they want to cover birth control. There are many examples of white men stopping black people from enjoying the liberties that white people have always had. This is what the Civil Rights movement was about and now we have to fight to keep those rights because they are slowly trying to take those things away. As for Whitlock, no he is not directly telling people not to vote but he is doing it indirectly by insinuating that voting isn't important and that it doesn't matter who is in charge because they all lie. Obviously by this presidency we can tell that it does matter who is in charge. Him saying that can cause people especially young black people to think voting isn't important which couldn't be any further from the truth. You see voter suppression going on all over the country right now because these republicans understand the power of the vote and what it means for their jobs and the future of this country. I don't believe that black people have made politics their God. Not by a long shot. I actually think that black people don't pay enough attention to politics and focus too much on God. Thinking that just prayer without action is going to make something happen. Whitlock is trying to make people turn away from paying attention to what's going on in politics and go back to praying, wishing and hoping for a change. No change in this country has ever occurred by people just sitting and praying to God. Change occurred by action and protest to rules and laws and by being involved in the politic process. Whitlock works for Fox and his argument is disingenuous and conservative based. Him telling black people to pay more attention to God and less to politics only helps conservatives in govt because most black people are democrats. And we obviously know that conservative rules and laws do not help minorities in the least bit. His commentary here does absolutely no good for blacks in America.

@@tonyasmith2595 you're right as far as it being the families job to instill values. My point id's at some point there's always an intersection where community and politics meet. Politics will always be relevant for that reason. Pre civil rights the black community was teaching those values but because we were locked out of the political process we were still being marginalized. The key is teaching those same values and then putting representation in office that reflects those values.

Kareem Gray the ONLY reason Christianity was able to be used to enforce slavery, was because WE COULDN’T READ. Before you start throwing sand on Christianity and using slavery to discredit Christianity; actually pick up a Book and study the FULL subject. There’s a reason why it was illegal for blacks to know how to read and especially know how to read the Bible. White people didn’t want us to know how to read the Bible, because biblical characters were dark skin human beings just like us. Jesus was a Dark skinned (most likely black). Adam and Eve were black. Kareem Gray, what book have you picked up? Can you actually quote from one, or are you like Trump and Kanye West, all talk and suffer from a serious allergic reaction whenever you've touched a book? Cause if you actually read "the book," or studied it, you'd know people of African descent wrote some of the books in the bible, Africans helped created it, Africans and African culture are featured prominently in it, and Jesus even spoke Aramaic, a language with heavy African roots. To attack Kenneth Dunn as if he didn't know "we" have a history before slaves, when clearly he understand the African presence in the bible (and the history in the bible is thousands of years before slavery in America)....makes you look incredibly ignorant. Better to have someone think you are a fool, but not really know, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

Kareem Gray I am a Christian & it’s a blow to my heart when there are debates about Jesus & the Bible. So, if I could for a moment challenge you to ponder these thoughts for a moment. If God The Father & Jesus The Son does not exist who created the first humans(male & female) fully equipped with every organ necessary to procreate generations of ppl that came before us so that we may exist. There’s not a human traceable back in history that gives clear evidence that they A. Created themselves thus B. Made it possible that we would be created millennium, centennials & decades later. The second thing I would respectfully ask that you would consider is, if you were a betting man & you heard the “fairy tale” of a man name Jesus & the alternative Satan. In that “fairy tale” 2 places were vividly described & explained as Heaven & Hell & all that each offered your soul after you died. Life, joy, peace & so much more everlasting or eternal burning & all that was required for everlasting was acknowledging(confessing) your wrongs(sin) asking forgiveness from God(The Creator) & allowing Him in your heart. Would you really want to take the risk, bet on your life(eternal) die & discover that it was all true but it’s too late for you & burning for an eternity is now your fate? My prayer for you sir is that you choose everlasting before it’s too late, for no man knows the hour which will be our last!!

Also, they get the system. America doesn’t reward the uneducated. Like it or not. They acquire college degrees at much higher rates than other minority groups and are much more likely to obtain STEM degrees than other minority college students. In other words, they go into careers that pay well. So, their economic power is immense relative to other demographic groups. Jason, faith without works is dead. I get what you're saying about getting back to God and keeping him the focal point in our community and family but the Bible tells us that we have to do some leg work. If you're praying to God and asking for more opportunities or a better way of life or just to simply make it through...yes, you can have the faith but it takes an effort on your part to go out and try to make your situation better with God's help. It makes no sense to pray to God for a car and you don't even have a drivers license ... or you're praying for a job and instead of filling out applications or sending in resumes, you sit at home playing Playstation or watching soap operas. In order for us to see the change we want in the Black community we have get involved and make our voices heard politically and with God's help we'll make it.

Felix Donnell All great questions for which many people who believe and trust the voting process never has a satisfying answer. In 2016, Donald trump received 304 electoral votes while Hillary received 227. So, essentially, the US election system was established in a manner where 304 votes from REGULAR CITIZENS (labeled “electoral college”) can outvote or defeat 3,000,000 more ballots from REGULAR CITIZENS. That’s ridiculous. What kind of math is being employed here? Then those same people would berate a non-participant for refusing to be civically engaged. However, I posed this thought provoking question, “If I would have voted for Clinton, should would have exceeded Trump’s votes by 3,000,000 and 1, do you really believe she would have won the election then? Truth is Hillary could have received 10 million more votes than Donald and still lost the election due to the electoral college rigged system. Russia did not rig the election. The founding father’s did.

@anthony giardina How is redlining avoidable when that's literally a racist and bigoted, segregationist action? You're assuming an equal playing field in a country where that's never been the case. Studies have been done, proving that positive decision making doesn't equal the same result. What you're describing is wishful thinking that many African Americans don't have the privilege to indulge in a country that has actively oppressed them for 100+ years post-slavery. You do realize we are still less than 60 years removed from Jim Crow, right? The effects of that don't disappear in two generations.
