Great vid. To the Roland Corp. When you make a drum machine, HAVE A SONG MODE Feature!!!! I'm sure at least 99% of us use SONG MODE!!! It saves time when it comes to writing SONGS, Commercials and programming SHOWS. Most of us have no need to mess with the drum machine "On the Fly" .We already know what we're doing. S

Thank you for the demo. What would be even better would be a dedicated 'song mode' where you can play or repeat any pattern or variation in any order. I can't believe Roland have still not implemented this feature in an update.
@choppedstrandaudio45613 жыл бұрын
I agree That would be fantastic... but you can't have everything ;) I think there is always something to improve but for a drum machine the TR8S is pretty good in my opinion.
@kezstone13 жыл бұрын
@@choppedstrandaudio4561 I actually think a 'song mode' is pretty basic stuff and at this price it's should've been included from the very beginning. I agree it's capable of sounding amazing.

Your videos are such a great resource. I literally watch them before my live sets, and they allow me to better utilize my TR-8S when I'm DJing! Literally making me a better producer! I have a question though. On another topic, is there a way to edit a pattern variation while the drum machine is playing? For example, I can only edit variation A while playing, but I can't get another variation to appear visually to edit it. Btw do you have a patreon?
@choppedstrandaudio45613 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your great feedback. Always so good to hear something positive for what I do here. I don't have Patreon yet, its in the make right now. Two three weeks and it is online :) thanks for asking. There is a way to edit a variation while another is playing. You need to be in TR Rec mode. Let's say variation A is playing and you want to change/edit/add variation B. Just hold down TR Rec and while holding down select your variation you want to edit. (Choose let's say Variation B) Variation B should blink orange while A is green and playing. Now you can edit variation B. To exit I think just press TR Rec again. Hope this helps Cheers

Thanks so much for these awesome tutorials! I’m learning my new tr-8s so much faster because of you. Is it possible to use a different kit or different instruments for different variations within a pattern or are they constrained to share the same 11 instruments?
@choppedstrandaudio4561 Жыл бұрын
Hey, yes. You can use different instruments for different variations. You could also copy you pattern and have more instruments available or copy your kit and chain everything together etc... Cheers

Hi, many thanks for your videos. My question: do you know how I can save the chained patterns into 1 song/rhythm track for playback later? Even my old Boss DR-770 has this feature...
@VincentPresley Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t do that for some reason. No song mode at all. Completely necessary feature for anyone writing a song and Roland left it out.

Great vid and explanation. Can you edit a pattern whilst playing them in a chain?
@choppedstrandaudio45613 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes sure. You need to be in TR-REC mode first. Second let's say variation A until D are playing in a chain. Press and hold down TR-REC and press the variation you want to edit. The selected variation is blinking red rapidly. You can change now the variation as you like while your TR8S is still playing the variations in the chain. To exit the mode chain again your variations together. Cheers ;)

Great video, thank you very much. Where I'm having trouble is that (with PTN SELECT) I press and hold 1 and then press 8, and they light up like in the video. However, when I press START/STOP, it always starts on pattern 2. Any thoughts on this?

Danke für das informative Video =) Eine Frage hätte ich tatsächlich: Wie wechsle ich im Live Betrieb auf die nächste Bank mit meine Patterns des nächsten Songs? Vielen Dank & mach weiter so =)
@choppedstrandaudio45613 жыл бұрын
Hey, vielen Dank dir.

Great videos. Question, say I have a patterns for a song using position 8-1 to 8-16, but now I would like to work on a different song, where can I put my new patterns? Can I only work on one song at a time using patterns 8-1 to 8-16? Can I save patterns in the SD card for multiple songs?
@VincentPresley Жыл бұрын
It’s ridiculous that any modern drum machine wouldn’t have a song mode let alone one that costs this much. This is an okay work around but seriously you should just be able to quickly say pattern 10 / variation 2 x8, pattern 43 variation 6 x4, etc etc like gear has done since the 80s. A $50 dr550 has a song mode.

Greetings, I really enjoy your content, it has helped me very much to get a deeper understanding of the tr8s, I'm constantly coming back to your channel for tips :) thank you!! I'm having an issue with two of my patterns: it seems that pattern 1 and 2 are "locked" together, when I try to load a different "kit" on pattern 1 it automatically changes the kit on pattern 2 (wich is something I don't want to happen). I've looked for a solution to this but I've had no luck :( Is there a solution to this issue? Thank you!!!

Hey, coming back to your question. I had a deeper look and I think I can't help you with this. The only thing I can think about is to delete your chain link ptn 1 and 2. Than choose your kit in ptn 1 and ptn 2. After this chain those two ptn back together. I guess you tried this already?

So far I know that is correct. You could switch after the 16 patterns to another kit and have the same story again.
