Unlikely to be an upper limit for mk7 as some in Japan eat Natto every day and it has lots. Those selling supplements will tell you how awful natto is, But I make it and eat it with mustard, soy or worcestershire sauce and a bit of olive oil and it is fine. I also culture milk to yogurt and ferment chickpeas with those microbes.

I'm a 75 yr old female. I have been taking K2, Vitamin E supplements for 8 years. My primary Dr sent me to a cardiologist. Immediately saw my age and said you have 45 % chance of arterial sclerosis...you need to be on statins. I told him I wanted a CAC test that measures the Calcium in the arteries. He told me they don't order that test because the insurance won't pay for it. $ 75.00. I insisted. The test is simple an ultrasound, completely non invasive. The technician ran the test twice. I had NO calcium build up or arterial sclerosis. I did NOT need a perscription for statins or any other drug. In fact I don't have any prescriptions. I take supplements from Life Extension Foundation. I just wondered how many of that Doctor's patients were given prescriptions they did not need simply because he would not run a simple non-invasive test that took 15 minutes. I am happy to know Vit K2 helps the kidneys.

I had a doctor do an ultrasound on my arteries, and she told me I had 70 percent carotid artery blockage, and tried to prescribe a statin. I declined but was terrified, until another doctor did another test, and she lied to me. I did NOT have a carotid artery blockage. These doctors get pharmaceutical kickbacks from prescribing meds.

Interesting-I was hospitalized for being Magnesium deficient as I passed out in my own house & was taken by ambulance to the hospital. At first they thought it was a heart attack or stroke. I feel as though I always ate well particularly w/foods that contained Magnesium so it was a surprise to learn I was deficient but on the other hand you never know what you’re deficient in without testing. Same with whether or not a person is absorbing the necessary vitamins & minerals either through what they eat or supplements. Doctors are not keen to do all those tests so we must be our own health advocate. They would rather prescribe drugs than to look into the core of people’s health problems so find an accommodating Doctor & again, extremely important to be your own health advocate. Natural remedies are better than many of the drugs.

@@charlanpennington3989 I will be taking the Magnesium supplement for the rest of my life. Most are deficient & aren’t even aware of it, especially those over 40, so no doubt people are deficient in other things as well. I have separate bottles of virtually all the supplements except the K but many multi vitamins have the K in there but limited amounts. Females over 18 supposedly need 90 mcg. I’ve read this vitamin is not sold separately but I’ll have to research that further. It can be prescribed but I’m not under Doctors care. I think the best place to start is find out what we are deficient in & why. Eating right with the proper diet is extremely important but difficult at the same time as the main crops from what most foods consist of & derived from come from are genitically engineered crops so there will be bioengineered ingredients in virtually all foods. Most cannot afford to buy all organic foods which is another problem. The best meats are very expensive as well. So I at least do things like avoid HFCS which is linked to serious health issues like diabetes & heart disease. So our diet should be a way of life to avoid as much of the bad as we can despite many foods being compromised. Even dry name brand cereals & crackers are considered processed foods.

@@revrotunda3206 , I had to drop those ingredients you refer to. I had help from my literal guardian angel to figure out what was making me so ill. I found the pe-stic--ide overload made me use magnesium at an advanced rate, to deal with "stress" I just call poisoning. Each fall after 3 months of Floressence Tea (removes heavy metals and pesticides gently over 3 to 4 months or 4 to 6 boxes) my magnesium deficiency problems ease greatly, by the next fall it is a big problem again. Now K will help.

Hi I am 67 years of age and my inflammation was so bad that I had aching legs day and night I could hardly stand it. In fact when I was in my teenage years I remember I had aching legs and my mother said it was growing pains. I was brought up in New Zealand so not much sun during Spring and winter a little bit. I started to take more vitamin D3 with a K2 supplement only recently, like about a month ago. I now take 6 1000iu per day. 3 in the morning and 3 at night with 2000 fish supplement. I have absolutely no aching in my limbs and absolutely no inflammation at all. It's changed my life. I can now walk and swim without moving awkwardly and limping. Hello, Oh my goodness. I am so sorry, but sooo glad you've discovered this Miracle of Vitamin K2, [Menaquinone]. There is NOthing in the natural or pharmaceutic world quite like this "fermented microbe". TELL THESE TRADITIONAL DOCTORS: The CALCIUM Will Never go to where it is supposed to go Without being Regulated by MENAQUINONE!!! Worst yet: the Calcium WILL BE GOING INTO SOFT TISSUE AND ARTERIES. On YT there is a lengthy Video, I will try to circle back with link. It is a few years old, by a doctor John Whitcomb, who goes in great detail of the discovery of Vit. K2. It is titled: "The End of Osteoporosis and Heart Disease". Talk only of K2. In essence: Humans have 2 proteins, waiting around to be activated, [carboxylated]. 1] One protein is called, Osteocalcin, which directs calcium into the bone matrix. 2] 2nd protein is call, MGla Matrix, which pulls calcium out of soft tissue / arteries. We are all deficient in a nutrient. crazy. In the old days we all ate Grass-Fed Meat / Dairy. Hence why the French have this Paradox... [the French Paradox, books written..] They are amongst the lowest cardiovascular disease poplulation... why. Just think about it, they have Valleys of grassy meadows where all the CHEESE the French consume, comes from that source. So even all the bread they eat, (insulin), still does not bother them. There is a book called the Calcium Paradox i believe...author has a French Canadian last name.. Anyway, in the comments I once read a patient being rolled out of surgery for rooter-rooting his carotid artery. He asked his surgeon, "how did the calcium get in there..?" The doctor said, "Well, sometimes the body gets confused.." They Just did Not teach Nutrition Science in Medical school. That's fine, that is why we now have Clinical Registered Dieticians... but still, these MD specialist fall short, and dangerous that you now at such a young age had to have stents... grrr Another comment was from an airline pilot who had a major blockage of a major artery. I've retained what he did with Vitamin K2, and high dose Vitamin C, [improves collagen within the endothelium..], and he successfully cleared out blockages On His Own. I may circle back with that Pilot's remedy.. FOUND IT, HERE I AM PASTING BELOW. FORMER AIRLINE PILOT CLEARED BLOCKAGE----- "I used Vitamin K2 MK7 and Natural Vitamin C to clean 2 of my 4 heart arteries completely of plaque. Previously I had two stents installed in my LAD, and while in the Catheterization Lab the Surgeon told me I had severe Calcification of the other 3 arteries at least 65% blocked and the lesions (inflammation) caused by the Calcium block would rupture and probably kill me. I am a 78 year old retired airline pilot and asked what I could do to remove the plaque. THE SURGEON TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING I COULD DO. But looking on the NIH publication site there were two articles on K2 or Menaquinone as it is called. One from Krakow, Poland and the other from Rotterdam, Amsterdam. Those two countries do not depend on the profit motive drug companies to do their drug studies. The govt and the govt ran universities do the testing. AND THEIR RESEARCHERS PROVED THAT VITAMIN K2 DOES REMOVE CALCIUM FROM THE ARTERIES.. and that Calcium mixed with a little cholesterol is the primary blocking agent. >>> IT IS NOT CHOLESTEROL ALONE It is not Cholesterol alone-- as the U.S. drug companies want us to believe. And Dr Linus Pauling won 2 Nobel Prizes working with Natural Vitamin C. He said Natural Vitamin C would work like Roto-Rooter removing plaque from our arteries. So I took both. Two Vitamin K2 in the morning, 2 at noon and 2 in the evening. I took K2 as MK7 because the MK7 version stays in our blood stream longer and works better. We do not store Vitamin C or most antibodies in our bodies and must be taken often to have any effect. So each night I mixed 1.5 teaspoons of Natural Vitamin C (not Ascorbic Acid, the orange pill that is not Vitamin C) using Acerola Cherry Powder. I mixed the cherry powder in six bottles of flavored water and drank all six the following day. After 6 months I went to the local hospital for a Calcium Score. COMPLETELY CLEARED OF PLAQUE My Calcium Score showed two major heart arteries (there are 4) completely clear of plaque. The Surgeon verified they were 65% blocked 6 months prior. The Cardiologist was completely stunned and asked the hospital to check the accuracy of the X-Ray equipment. One other artery has a small amount of calcium plaque and the fourth, the one with the 2 stents still has severe plaque. So I am continuing the self-help treatment and will do another calcium Score in May or June. But a Carotid study of my 2 Carotid arteries showed them completely clean and I have stopped passing Kidney Stones which has been a problem for the past 10 years. And my joint pain is gone. No more hip, neck, shoulder, back pain. I no longer have to take strong opoids for pain and I can return to playing golf and fishing again. Vitamin K2 MK7 and Natural Vitamin C has restored my life. There are lots of venders of Acerola Cherry Powder which is rich in Natural Vitamin C on Amazon. One teaspoon has 300 mg. And there are lots of sellers of Vitamin K2 MK7 on Amazon. Pick your own, I have left some reviews of the products I use but have no doubt that they are all the same. Good luck. And get YOUR CALCIUM SCORE. And Thank YOU, DR BERG for giving me the information I needed to find my solution. My new Calcium Score is 977. 975 in the LAD and 2 in the Circumform. Zero in the other two. STUDIES ON VITAMIN K2 MENAQUINONE The two K2 studies. One is from Rotterdam titled, "Dietary Intake of Menaquinone is Associated with a reduced Risk of Coronary Heart Disease: The Rotterdam Study" by Dr.Johanna Geleijnse and associates. The other study is "Proper Calcium Use: Vitamin K2 as a promoter of Bone and Cardiovascular Health", by Dr Katarzyna Maresz, who is the president and scientific coordinator of International Science and Health Foundation in Krakow, Poland. BEST BOOK by NYC PROFESSOR CARDIOLOGY And the best book I found on the subject is also sold on Amazon by Dr Dennis Goodman a NYC Professor of Cardiology and his book "Vitamin K2: The Missing Nutrient for healthy Hearts and Bones." Well worth the $2 for the Kindle Version. Get Your Calcium Score. The computer on the CT X-Ray machine computes your chances of dying from a Heart Attack in the next X years. The percent and number of years depends on your level of Calcification. And tell your wife that Calcification of her soft tissue causes early aging, wrinkles, no kidding. Taking K2 twice a day will make her skin look younger. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6K9oKCFrZt0qKM Behind the Plaque - in Arteries, Brain, Joints & Teeth

I will have another test next year for OP. I have fully functional kidneys and all my other parameters were good; I also came out of a prediabetic state. I believe I have stronger bones and I feel good overall. Regardless, I will not be taking OP medications because as a nurse, I know how they work and many people end up worse than when they were diagnosed. Each case might be different than mine, but that's my experience and these are my choices only. Great explanation on vit K2. My dr did not even know it existed. When I asked him if it was appropriate to supplement. He said do not do that because of the bleeding. I said is not K1. But it is hard to argue with a close-minded Dr. The Dr. wanted to prescribe me three meds right away and was upset at me for refusing them. I am not against them, but If I have choices, I will exhaust my choices first.

Dr. Hashmi, A cardiologist in 2005 told me that I needed a stent because I had a clogged artery. He first asked 3 questions, which I answered. 1) He asked, "Do you feel very tired while walking?" I said NO, NOT AT ALL," and I walked a lot because I love walking! 2) He asked, "How many miles would you say that you've walked?" I said, 3 and sometimes 4 miles; I walked outdoors a lot, plus when I'm indoors, I use my treadmill which has rolling hills. As I said, I love walking! 3) He said when climbing stairs, "Do you get tired or out of breath?" I said NO. He said, "You may not have any symptoms, but I'm not pleased with what I'm seeing here (looking at my X-ray, etc, on his computer); so you'll need a stent! I was shocked and found it very strange when he said that I needed a stent. I thought, NO SYMPTONS AND I NEEDED A STENT! I left his office and went straight to my doctor whom I trusted and had access to my medical file. I told him what the cardiologist said, only half an hour ago. I then said, "Doc, I came to you for a second opinion because I just don't trust him!" He said, "Why don't you trust him?" I said I don't, because I've NONE of symptoms that he asked, so I DON'T believed him! My doctor looked at my file and shooked his head and said, well I cannot tell you what to do, it's up to you but what I can tell you, it's (only) when a patient artery is blocked at a certain percentage, then we recommend a stent! I said, "Doc, I just want to know one thing, if you were me, would you have the stent?" He said NOPE, I WON'T, but as I've already said, this decision is ONLY yours to make! I smiled and said thank you doc, you’ve answered my question; he also smiled. Today is January 19th, 2023, and I DID NOT let that "crooked" cardiologist put a stent into my artery! After 18 years, I've NO problems whatsoever! I've realized that in this world, there're MANY crooked doctors who would damage a patient for money and don't care! Thanks, Dr. Hashmi and Michele, for this interesting podcast; God bless🙏 Today is Friday, June 21st, 2024, and here's another update. It's now 19 years, and I still haven't had a stent put into my artery! When I'm outdoors, I walk for between 5-10 miles. I use my treadmill when I'm indoors. I also run up and down many stairs. Btw, I'm now 69 years old (in a few months, I'll be 70), and everyone who doesn't know me personally thinks that I'm no more than 50. Thank God 🙏

Vitamin K1 and K2 do completely different things in the body!! It's critical to get K2 these days because when they switched from grass to grain for our cattle they disrupted the healthy process of metabolizing our food properly, so we must take K2 supplements to insure the calcium goes to our bones and not in our arteries.

At 6:45, Sean first mentioned a 2006 meta analysis where the K2 MK-7 dose was 45 MILLIGRAMS, bringing to our attention he was talking 45 MILLIgrams vs. micrograms. At 15:20, when Michele asked Sean about dosage for K2 MK-7, he started out by saying the STUDIES went as high as 360 (here he hesitated and then emphasized) MILLIGRAMS per day with no issues. She did NOT react to or question him for saying MILLIGRAMS. Then at 17:20 he said the studies went as high as 360 MICROGRAMS. She did not react to or question the much lower dose he stated the second time, but I picked up on it right away. That’s a huge difference, milligrams or micrograms! In Japan doctors prescribe 45 MILLIGRAMS per day to treat osteoporosis, so it may not be outside of reason for a STUDY to actually dose at 360 milligrams. So which dose did the STUDY actually use, I wonder, 360 in MILLIgrams or MICROgrams? I’m inquiring ONLY about the cited STUDY dose, not the recommended dose.

To me, that is very clear. So glad you are covering this topic, and am happy to learn more about the benefits of K2. I've used K2-M7 & Vitamin D to treat my severe osteoporosis. After five years of this regimen, DEXA scans showed a 40% *increase* in my bone density, and my condition was revised to osteopenia, rather than the severe osteoporosis I had been in. I keep an eye on heart disease and kidney health as well, and credit my status in those areas also to the K2-M7/Vitamin D. It is slow working but it certainly has a significant, long-term beneficial impact on the body--and in the case of bone density, one that can be specifically measured. I wish more people knew about this, so thanks for doing this episode.

@@jeangriggs201 Yes, I am (am 66 now). I hit the same resistance from docs when I refused to take bisphosphonates, but the damage they do to bones' ability to self-repair is well documented (among many other negative consequences). I had to educate each of my osteo docs regarding K2-M7 and Vit D combos - they were uniformly ignorant of it, even though exactly this is standard osteoporosis/osteopenia treatment in Japan. By the way, Vit D is really essential to take in combo with K2 if you are looking to improve bone health. There is tremendous synergy between the two, and the D increases absorbtion and efficacy of the K2 considerably. If you are inclining this way I would encourage you to take at least 200 mcg of K2-M7 (you can go up to 360-ish a day, tho, which is typical intake for a Japanese person who consumes natto for breakfast). I do a higher dose of Vit D- 5000 units/day, which is in keeping with recommendations from Dr Christiane Northrup for post-menopausal women and also with the consent of my docs. (My bod is not very responsive to lower doses or Vit D2.) This amount keeps my Vit D levels in a good, protective range per my blood work. I also take a 1000 mg gel cap of Omega 3 fish oil along with those two, in part for other supplement reasons but also because K2 is oil soluble and that hit of fish oil helps in the metabolizing of it when taken at the same time. Good luck to you in improving your bone health! Light weight training can also help a great deal--muscle stress on bone makes the bones stronger in response, and weight resistance training specifically reduces risk of fracture.

I am 57 pre-diabetic, began taking thiamine 250mg a day 3 months later my adrenals / kidneys are healing, and my body size is slowly getting smaller. Like I am reducing in size all round my body not just in specific areas. Praise Jesus He did say "I am healing your adrenals." Only thing different I am doing is taking big doses of thiamine. Just started taking k2 in multivita, looking forward to seeing how that works. I have also been taking 1/2 teaspoon potassium bicarbonate and 1/2 teaspoon ascorbic acid in juice / kombucha a day for years. But because the thiamine is working to heal kidneys, I had to reduce the daily ascorbic acid / potassium dose to half (1000mg) a day.

I read a few questions related to taking D3 and K2 together or separately, so this is what I found from Bare Biology: "In short, vitamin D helps extract calcium from our food, and K2 helps deposit it where we need it: in bones and teeth and not in soft tissues such as artery walls and cartilage, which could lead to heart disease. These two vitamins appear more valuable for supporting bone and heart health when taken together rather than alone."

I have made batches natto several times. As mentioned in the video natto has a large amount of Vit K compared to other foods and is consumed a lot in Japan but is an acquired taste and not for everyone. I made it from non GM soybeans and the necessary spores (on the internet) and previous batches can be used to make new batches so it is really cheap to make. However making it is a bit of a hassle and time consuming so now I just buy it in Asian grocery stores or on the internet and and keep in the freezer.

I use an instant pot to cook the beans in, either soy or black beans, and while I cook the beans I throw in the spoon and containers I'm going to put the natto in, in with the beans so they're disinfected.. after cooling down a bit I pour off the remaining water add some natto starter and put the beans in a plastic container that was disinfected above, put it back in the instant pot for 24 hours at 101°.. after that it's done just put in the fridge and use it as you like..

I take my daily 100 mcg of vitamin K-2 as MK-7 (natto) out of a separate bottle from my daily 125 mcg dose of vitamin D from fish liver oil just in case I would ever like to adjust doses, and a report I recently heard is that 100 mcg of vitamin K-2 is sufficient for up to 10,000 IU of vitamin D, with my 125 mcg dose of vitamin D being the equivalent of 5,000 IU of vitamin D. I felt great relief to hear someone report by a merely passing remark that 100 mcg daily of vitamin K-2 as MK-7 is sufficient, because on days when I experimentally doubled my dose of vitamin K-2 as MK-7 from 100 mcg to 200 mcg, I suffered from flatulence and diarrhea. Biggest improvement for me was switching to fish liver oil as my vitamin D source. The powdered vegan algae did not work at all for me, and consuming lanolin was completely out of the question.

The Japanese used a daily dose of 45mg (15mg in three doses per day) MK-4 (NOT Mk-7) K2 in their study which demonstrated very significant reduction in arterial calcification. I've read online that MK-4 may be more rapidly assimilated by human cells because it is more bioavailable than MK-7. Also, the MK-7 remains longer in the blood because human cells PREFER the MK-4 form of K2 and therefore uptake it much more quickly. I have not yet found scientific research online to support that, however (that MK-4 is preferred by our cells). Because of this uncertainty, I take both forms daily.

I follow a nutrient dense plant based diet. I went on vegan diet after a serious accident that caused a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Because of the TBI I have very little sense of taste, smell and no sense of hunger. I was eager to eat foods that would heal my brain and many vegan foods are high in anti inflammatory properties. Unfortunately many of those same foods cause kidney stones which I developed. After much research I learned that often stones are caused by foods that are high in oxalates and many plant based foods (spinach, beets, almonds, etc...) should be avoided. So, I am struggling with what I can and can not eat.

Hi @JoJo W. I recommend searching Dr. Berg on KZbin for this. I have kidney stones and was looking for answers. Dr. Berg recommends fresh lemon juice (I squeeze 1 lemon a day into water or sugar-free drinks) and potassium citrate - both help to dissolve oxalate stones. The big one is 2.5 litres of water a day to dilute and prevent the stones forming. It’s been a year since my last stone attack and I’ve had no problems following his advice. Oh, and if your stones are calcium, K2 MK7 pulls the calcium out of your blood stream and soft tissues where it shouldn’t be and deposits it in your bones. For your brain injury, he recommends B1 as that repairs the myelin sheath, which is the protective coating around your nerves. Calcium plaque can form in the brain, so K2 will also help there… and D3 and Zinc will also be hugely beneficial… if you watch his videos, you’ll get the picture :) Take care and good luck to you! (P.S. Dr. Berg is strongly into Keto diet and grass-fed, natural fats and meat, but there is a lot of supplement advice that you can follow and stay vegan too).

Good to know that beef tallow has K1! They -- and the rest of us -- can also supplement with or take a natural source of K2 as well. The commentor's not knocking K2, they are reminding us about K1.

My husband died because of kidney disease and related complications. He had uncontrolled diabetes and on Metformin for years. Medicare did not make other drugs for diabetes affordable. The major part of his kidney deterioration, I believe, was caused by Metformin. Eventually, he was able to begin taking a once a week injection, which was a Godsend, but the damage was already done. When he was hospitalized for another illness, the hospital would not allow him to take the working Trulicity because they said it could not be controlled, so they pumped him full of insulin. He blew up like a balloon, had to have multiple Lasik treatments, only to have his heart become so over-taxed and suffer related damage. He died of heart failure. Of course, because he had had COVID months before, the official medical examiner's reason for his death was COVID related death. Of course, his death was during the height of the COVID epidemic. I expressed my beliefs, but I found out very quickly I could not afford legal representation to bring this forward.

MK-4 is extremely well absorbed that is why it doesn't stay in the blood very long. MK7 is a very large molecule that doesn't absorb as easy. MK4 is shown to increase matrix-gla and osteocalcin. I would personally take both MK4 and MK7 due to how they have different longevity in the blood and different actions. For example, MK4 is crosses the blood brain barrier and MK7 does not.

I concur with you assessments of Mk4. As for the rest of you wanting references, go read some medical studies on K2 and their different forms.

Thank you both for the information. I have been taking the D3+K2 MK7 from Sports Research for some time. I love them for there high standards. My father had veins in his legs that became calcified. So this has worried me as I got older. I am 47 and my father was around 60 when he has this problem but I am sure it started many years prior. Thank you again for this information. 👍👍

I have taken K2 for a couple of years. Recently I looked up which vitamins were fat soluble. K2 is fat soluble, the difference taking it with fat was huge. I was getting referred jaw pain on my daily walk and it immediately stopped. Remarkable.

This was very interesting indeed. My brother has AKD and is on dialysis twice a week. He does not have diabetes and that was not what caused his kidney disease. He is on a plant based diet for the most part, however he will eat a small portion of chicken, fish or lamb every now and then. The issue is trying to lower the potassium levels. Can he take K2 (M7) would it be safe for him? Can you please help? Thank you!

There are a lot of studies with mk4. It costs a lot more to take the dosages that we’re studied with: 15-45mg a day.

I get my supplements from a company named Life Extension. They do clinical tests & I get a magazine every month showing what clinical tests they did for that month. Good prices & lots of info. I have saved all of the marines and have a Library of 🌿 herbs. Great video guys.

I use magnesium oxide 500 milligram tablets. I put the pill in my mouth with a little water, crush it with my teeth, rub the granules against the inside of my mouth until little is left but a slurry about 15 minutes. I then swallow it and it doesn't affect my bowels. In one week of doing this my BP went from 160's/170's over 90's to 120's over 70's and no loose stools.
