I like both...and purchased the PO about a year ago. What won me over was the more modern execution of a steel diver. Personally, I think the co-axial is the better movement. The blue / silver can be blingy in some light conditions without screaming "look at me". The bracelet is probably the best function, fit and finish I have worn including a Submariner. (Actually sold my 3-year old HULK taking money of the table, then bought 5 month old PO with the profit). In addition, my Rolex brand perception is probably less than it used to be while OMEGA is up. They lost control over distribution of the steel sport segment and catering 100% to grey dealers. Genuine buyers walking into an AD are staring at empty display cases in the meantime.The pendulum is gonna swing the other way eventually, but I could be wrong.

I love both of these watches, however, I hate the way the SD43 lug to lug is so long. The PO wraps around the wrist, but the SD43 just looks too long from the side on and ends up with an air gap under each end link on a normal sized wrist. Also, it's worth stating that the AR coating on the PO is crystal clear as opposed to the Rolex that's always reflecting white.

Omega all the way. Money no object, I prefer its movement and it’s design. I can’t help but find pretty much all Oyster case Rolex a bit boring design wise, and I appreciate the extra specifications of the Omega’s movement. While I don’t love the He release valve, I don’t mind it, and I definitely prefer it to Rolex’s cyclops, and while the PO600 is quite thick I would never wear a watch like this with a suit/dress shirt so that doesn’t bother me at all. Finally, if we do take money into consideration, it’s honestly no contest. At retail they’re fairly close, with a slight nod to Omega value wise, but the PO can be had for well under retail (even when new), and the SD is so overpriced at resale (the only way to get one) that I’d rather have either 2-3 Omegas (including one to wear with a suit) or a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms for what it sells for. Honestly even if the Rolex was better, it’s definitely not 3 times better, which is the true price difference between these two.

With the savings, better quality and the games Rolex ADs are playing, there’s no comparison.

@gpearce115 жыл бұрын
Dean Marshall You make an excellent point that I’ve stated several times. These are casual watches, and really aren’t designed to be worn with suits/dress shirts. As a result the thickness of the PO 600 isn’t that much of a big deal (although I do admit no one would complain if it was thinner). If you’re being swayed towards the Rolex purely because it will slide under a cuff better, I have two things to say. Firstly, at over 15mm the Sea-Dweller will still struggle with a short cuff (just less than the Omega). Get the Submariner or SM Diver 300M if you really want a dress diver. Secondly, the Rolex costs more than double the Omega at retail, so just use the extra money to buy an Aqua Terra or Globemaster (I too am partial to the AT), and you have a perfect two watch collection. Heck, if we compared their resale prices you could even throw in the new steel Tresor, alongside the PO and AT, if you want something really thin (although in that case I’d probably replace the AT with a Speedy Pro for a nice and diverse collection).
@mirasga5 жыл бұрын
People who can afford these watches are wealthy enough to have their dress shirts tailored to accomodate thick watches. The cannot fit under a cuff argument is moot especially when James Bond can pull it off. 😂

mirasga True, although even then there is a reason Bond switched to an SMP with his tux in Casino Royale, and an Aqua Terra when wearing a suit in Skyfall and Spectre. Even for Bond the Planet Ocean is a bit big. If you don't mind me asking, which would you say is more comfortable to wear between the two? I own the PO XL as well and I've been eyeballing the SD43 for a while now but I'm a bit worried about the fact that people say it's not comfortable due to the protruding caseback and thickness. I find the poxl supremely comfortable especially on rubber. Could you draw a comparison for me between the two as far as comfort? 7.5 wrists here. Thanks!
@ripperx4442 жыл бұрын
@@ir739 the deep sea is one of the most comfortable for my wrist because I always remove the large dive extension from it. I haven’t tried the new one on yet with the new breclete as I don’t like Rolex anymore! PO is probably mode comfortable overall due to weight.

New Rolex after market value decline 15% due to tradewar and Hong Kong economy crisis. Previously Rolex batman in Hong Kong can sold USD16k to 17k. Now people can buy USD14k. Next year will cheaper or maybe shortlisting for new set of Rolex watch in outlet.
@bbbpandan64735 жыл бұрын

In my humble opinion the Omega is hands down the better watch. The latest 8900 master chronometer movement is just fantastic. I have owned 3 Rolex both the Kermit LV and the Hulk LV Then a GMT They are great watches. But please the price has gone crazy I even bought my son a V series 16600 sea dweller for his 21st. Rolex are without any doubt the kings of marketing within the watch world. But better than Omega Master Chronometer. NO they can’t hold a candle to this fantastic movement. Originally designed by George Daniels ( the greatest horologist of modern times ) the Omega Master Chronometer is technically way better as a movement and. Again in my humble opinion as a watch. And let’s not forget the value when compared to the Rolex. Buy right and you can make money on both. But Rolex prices are way to high for what they are.

Design purist would have a hard time swallowing the busyness of Omega design approach. This is too much of unbalanced touches in my opinion most flagrant one is the helium escape crown! SD all day and night.

Omega's best dive watch likely is the 2019 Seamaster Diver 300M Black Ceramic. Proportions are handsome, the dial is clean, and the He valve is the only real visual tick Best, Tim
@gpearce115 жыл бұрын
Other than the He Valve, which at least serves a purpose, the dial of the PO is a remarkably faithful reinterpretation of the ‘60s Mil-Seamaster, so I’m not sure design purists will have a problem with it. Also, many that appreciate good design detest the unfinished/rushed design of the cyclops on Rolex. If you want a date magnifier, do it properly under the crystal (like Panerai), not by glueing a hideous wart to the dial.
@rodriguezahr5 жыл бұрын
@@gpearce11 Good point. I think Rolex use of the Cyclope is intentional, this cyclone when seen on a watch crystal has become an immediate identification to the brand. I'm sure the fact they still use it today is because of that and not because of the lack of other options to do it otherwise. It's like the fluted bezel, you see one from a distance and you think Rolex before thinking anything else. Think of the double kidneys on BMW front ends :-)
@gpearce115 жыл бұрын
Rodrigue Zahr That’s definitely the reason. It was a good idea in theory, yet poorly executed, but it became so distinctive that Rolex is never going to change it. Again we see Omega doing the same thing with the He Valve. Omega added it to provide difference between their divers and everyone else, and it works (you can spot a PO or SMP across a room as a result), so they’re unlikely to ever remove it. It ends up coming down to personal preference. Some, such as myself, have no issue with the He Valve, yet hate the cyclops. Others despise the He Valve for being ugly and unnecessary, yet find the cyclops very useful (especially if they have poor eyesight).
@rodriguezahr5 жыл бұрын
Geoffrey Pearce makes put in this way the HE valve makes sense now. I personally don’t like very tiny date windows, I struggle to see the date on my Tudor GMT, maybe that’s why I enjoy looking at Rolex’s Cyclopes :-)

The Omega would be the easy winner if it weren't so damn thick. It would also be nice if they'd get rid of the helium escape valve, and I mean just plain *get rid of it* , not tone it down so it's like that of the Rolex. Nobody buying these watches actually has any intent of ever doing the sort of diving that would require it (and if they did they wouldn't be wearing a watch like that down there anyway as that sort of diving nowadays is entirely commercial and who the hell is going to wear a $5k watch down to the diving bell where they'll be working for 2 weeks as a welder for an oil company?!).

A-magnetic, METAS certified, better time keeping (0 to +5 secs per day), better time keeping rate (more stable due to the twin barrel). 100% Omega over the Rolex. I fear these Rolex v Omega comparisons are not representative of the market. Surely someone buying a 4 grand watch isn’t comparing it to any Rolex. They’re both exceptional watches at their price point, and the Rolex is just the watch the Omega guy wishes he could afford.
@TECHFIGHTER5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The Rolex v Omega comparisons are not representative of the market. However, someone buying an Omega is most definitely comparing it to it's comparable Rolex. They're both exceptional watches but only is the Omega exceptional at it's price point as the Rolex is just exceptional. The Rolex is the watch the Omega guy would buy if the Omega did not already provide comparable quality at a much more impressive price point.

I would disagree. Every bozo walking down the street has a sub or gmt. So Rolex has become the watch of people who pretend to have wealth.
@andrewkendall87445 жыл бұрын
True. But you still need to able to drop 12 grand in the first place. If you can’t afford to put food on the table afterwards, you have other problems.
@jimbeam41115 жыл бұрын
Andrew Kendall dropping 12 grand is easy for anyone. Financing is easily obtained. The food on the table part. Well that’s were the government comes in. When gang bangers and rappers are wearing Rolex’s that’s when I look elsewhere.Rolex has become a brand of bling not sophistication. The Rolex to buy is an explorer 1 or 2. No one should be buying a watch or anything else to give off the perception of wealth.
