On the Omega Planet Ocean you only operate the Helium escape valve inside a dry decompression chamber during your decompression and leave it open until your on the surface, if you need to go and have a shower either take the watch off or close the valve while in the shower then when dry reopen the valve. I have popped the face off a vintage Omega 300. I own an Omega 300 Professional, Pelagos 42mm and an Oris Professional titanium. I would buy the Planet Ocean as I don't want to tell an AD my life story , while he judges my worthness just to buy a watch. Anyone can walk into an Omega shop and buy a watch and be treated the exact same as anyone else.
@scott78413 жыл бұрын
The economic reason for choosing the Omega PO versus the Rolex Sea Dweller cannot be understated! Sure, the Sea Dweller is an investment watch and can be sold for more than retail. But you're paying a HUGE premium for the sea dweller, if you could even find one at retail in the first place! And for daily wear, the PO is much better because it does not carry all the negative marketing baggage like a Rolex. Omega PO is also so much better for privacy and discretion! Plus, as Tim said, the color and strap options for PO are far better. Omega PO is the winner.
@trinity34222 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the lumed bezel on the Omega is strictly for the orange and white model, as far as I’m aware. The hour adjust function for time zones is not available on the 39.5mm version as far as I know. I honestly like the looks of both, although I don’t need a brand on my wrist that’s screaming “take me”, even though I’m pretty confident in my ability to defend myself. I personally think the Omega is the better made watch, however the Rolex has an X factor with its longevity aesthetically. Unless Omega decides to never change this watch up, which they could given that the Seamaster Diver hasn’t changed much in around 30 years.
@RB-xv4si Жыл бұрын
Almost true. There is a Seamaster chronograph that uses the same bezel, but instead of using this white ceramic dial, it uses a ceramised titanium dial that (IMO) looks super nice with the bezel. It’s almost a brownish gray color. But that dial/bezel combo is only available on their steel POs. Can’t get it on the grade 5 Ti POs.

I own the 2013 Deepsea and a 2019 blue Planet Ocean. If I'm going to wear a large diver, I actually wear the Planet Ocean. On a bracelet, both watches weigh about the same, but the weight distribution on the Omega is much better since the Planet Ocean's bracelet weights quite a bit more than the Oyster. My wrist is larger than Tim's and frankly, I just still find the PO a much more comfortable watch for daily wear. It's possible the newer Deepsea wears better, but I'm not buying any more dive watches for a while.

I own both and got to say the PO Creamsicle is more dramatic on the wrist, wears better and better over all design. It’s a bargain for all it brings. The ceramic full lume bezel makes it the “lume king” of all dive watches. It also wears smaller than its size spec would show and as comfortable as my Sub. My DSSD JC (12 series) bezel to dial ratio is off and its thickness is more noticeable. The dial just looks too small on the DSSD for its case size. Taking the dive extension off from the bracelet is mandatory to enhance a better balance. The case back is flatter and helps comfort over the SD43. In the end the PO is still a much more comfortable and featured packed diver over the DSSD. FYI: wrist presence of the Creamsicle is huge and get compliments all the time because of the design/look of the watch. It looks expensive without that first initial name recognition which is kinda cool in an organic sort of way. So there is an owners point of view.

Same with me; black dial and bezel on bracelet personally. I must say I'm glad Tim made sure to mention that more "conventional" colour choices exist this time (although I can also appreciate him saying he'd still pick this crazy organs and white one anyway). In a previous PO600 vs Sea-dweller video he used an orange and black Omega (with the rubber bezel insert), then used the orange details as a point against the versatility of the Omega (ultimately using that point to give the win to the Rolex), even though a more versatile all black model exists. The comment section dragged him quite heavily for that, so I'm glad he seems to have learned his lesson.

In my life I have always eventually gotten bored with a watch and sold it to buy a new one, slowly working my way up to 'nicer' watches. Truth is, if you can find this Rolex at MSRP you could sell it at almost any time in the future for more money. I've owned three Omega watches, including the original and the 8500 Planet Ocean, and each lost me money. My local AD is selling this exact Omega, refusing to budge on the price, which is idiotic, but were I to buy it I'd lose at least a grand on the first day, probably another grand or two during my ownership of it. So the net cost of selling and moving up to a nicer watch down the road would be even greater. And for me, that proof of concept, that 'market value' means something. I definitely like the display back and quickset hour hand on the Omega, but I hate the He valve and the clasp isn't great. And if I were to sell my Rolex and replace it with this Omega, I'd feel like I had downgraded. All that said, if you are a first time buyer and want a nice watch. Or you've owned some cheaper watches and want to move up, I'd say the Omega is a great watch. Especially if you find one at the right price. Odds are you are not going to find a Rolex, and even if you could it would be double the price (or even more gray/used).

Agree, but… I think Tim picks what to showcase based partly on what crosses his desk in any given week, and therefore he needs to sell. The Deep-sea is an objectively amazing watch, but subjectively I actually kind of hate it. Normally the only real issue I have with Rolex's watches is the hideous Cyclops magnifier, yet somehow it looks worse without it here, mostly thanks to the way the date awkwardly sits away from the chapter ring. Then we get to the size. Omega has always made watches that are a little (sometimes a lot) too big and thick, yet they've always managed to hide that size well, as seen here with the 16.5mm thick PO600 managing to wear like a 15mm thick Sea-dweller or Fifty Fathoms. The Deep-sea somehow goes the other way, managing to make its 17mm look even thicker, while also looking 1-1.5mm bigger than the 0.5mm smaller Omega. Inversely, while the simpler Omega clasp might be easier to live with day-to-day, the Deep-sea glidelock clasp is the single best dive watch clasp ever, no exceptions, period. And I don't really care that the orange version of the Omega's bezel is fully lumed, I'd still much rather a more understated black or blue model.

Fair point, and let's be honest, if you can afford to spend thousands (or tens of thousands) on a watch, you can also definitely afford to get your shirts made to measure. Alternatively, in my case, the thickness of these pieces doesn't bother me much because I'm not the type to wear a chunky sports watch with a suit (I'm one of the few remaining dress watch users, although I'm admittedly a dying breed), so it honestly doesn't matter if it'll fit under a dress shirt cuff, as I would never pair the two together anyway.
