Wait a minute, I thought Rolex does not have any inventory, yet they were delivery in 172 watches to an AD??? What!!!
@aeroAdvocate2 ай бұрын
Not to ONE AD but from a delivery truck. Do you know how many AD's there are in Osaka?
@oysterman9622 ай бұрын
ADs generally have a lot more stock than they tell you. They also hoard certain popular models and use them to hedge against fluctuations in market value with grey dealers. The watches stolen would've been fully paid for at least 6 months in advance by the AD prior to delivery, but insured. Consumers think Rolex controls distribution but it's the ADs that hold all the stock. Ever wondered why Rolex ranks No1 with highest sales of luxury watches compared to all other brands? Is because the ADs buy every single watch off the factory floor even before they're manufactured, hence the Morgan Stanley Watch Report published Rolex annual profit always appears overinflated, because they are selling watches like futures contracts to ADs. Interestingly, the recently released authorised Rolex Submariner book specifies manufacturing production numbers of individual models. One in particular, the green bezel ceramic Submariner is published to be approximately half the total amount produced of the standard black bezel variant. If this is indeed correct, it would undoubtedly mean that ADs are hoarding this model to make it appear rarer than it is in reality, thereby able to manipulate the exchange of this model on the grey market.

I love how they go out of their way call them a part of a criminal syndicate and not just say Yakuza.

The majority of us weren't ever going to see those 172 watches anyways
@oysterman9622 ай бұрын
Correct. The ADs control the flow of stock. Watches are traded between dealers and the grey market. I've seen some Rolex watches sold on the grey market, having warranty cards showing non trading shelf companies as the purchaser. This is a way ADs are able to sell these on the grey market without disclosing an individual's name.

Don’t think my local Rolex Ad has seen 172 watches in the last 4 years

The grey market for new models is surrounded by crime/illegality. I've been lucky enough to buy from an AD.

Interesting. I don't believe it was 172 watches. In the USA they usually deliver about 4-8 watches at a time per what my AD has told me in the past... And yes, the green boxes are delivered in bulk separately.
@aeroAdvocate2 ай бұрын
You're missing some parts here, this wasn't a single package destined for one dealership. It's a tray and they don't all go to the same AD so for those speculating "how can one AD have 160+ watches but claim none are available" ... that's why. This driver was supposed to deliver them to ALL AD's in Osaka that day.

So this is why there's never any watches in stock?

Very interesting. Can confirm that watches are delivered here in the USA from FedEx/UPS, and from what I’ve been told they are delivered in the cardboard boxes (used to be the plastic coffins).
@Schubeedoobee2 ай бұрын
yes... they use Fedex Express... They use overnight shipping so that the product is not exposed to a failure in the chain of ownership.
@2GoodLookin2 ай бұрын
Those 172 watches were not for just one AD. Rolex ADs never had a shortage of watches to sell. The ADs and the GMDs have been grifting the world for over 5 years now.
@HL-OOI2 ай бұрын
The waiting list is too long.. 😂
@horacephistbump2 ай бұрын
Won't be full sets. Dealers have a massive stock of boxes that they pull off the shelf when you buy, that is not specific to the watch. They will have papers though, as each coffin has an elastic band (!) holding the papers.

I hid a camera on the delivery corridor watching my AD that won't deliver me my watch to see if they lie about deliveries and after 2 months of surveillance they get a shipment every week from UPS of 2 unmarked boxes signed for, on the dot every Monday. One huge shipment via DHL every month (presuming these are the made in China boxes) I'm just relaying my observations, take it with a grain of salt or better yet it's best you presume I'm lying, but they got watches and they got bad security especially when it comes to delivery, the security that's presumed is that one doesn't know the interval and the boxes look blank. Anyone with a deductive mind can deduce that if you're getting a shipment a week of the same size box, that isn't printer paper. Furthermore no other shipments come to confuse you of the intervals, Also I have a colleague that works for UPS that confirmed some of these shipping methods. Also no I won't tell what AD it is, where etc.

100% Dubai. Just like how stolen cars are shipped to Dubai and resold through Used car dealerships. Huge operations and no one has made an investigation of it (since you'll probably be "missing" trying to report on that as a reporter in Dubai)

Japan’s criminal justice system needs to adapt by making sentences harsher. Especially since they intend on opening their borders for migration. I’ve read and watched too many horrific cases in Japan, where after being caught and convicted, the sentences were too light.

Interesting. Knowing the methods used by the Japanese government to crush the Yakuza (a largely successful effort), this does prove that you cannot completely eliminate the bad guys.
