Sorry but it seems to me that particular Tudor you have has been polished by its owner and ruined the original cases lug chamfers. My 79230R has perfect chamfer to brushed definition. Also I have a 7-1/2” wrist and find the thickness does not bother me at all! Also, the design of this watch is to compliment a Vintage bygone era which I feel it does extremely well. And finally, the movement is immensely better than the ETA version , my accuracy is within1-2 sec a day since I bought it 6 months ago! Would I rather have the Rolex? Of Course! But since I paid $3000 brand new on a bracelet from an AD I am super Happy with it! Keeper for sure

I have been a fan of your reviews. Appreciate your efforts. But I have found this review one sided. Singing praises about the features a $8500 watch and highlighting the short falls of how a watch costing less than half its price, is just not fair. Agreed, the Rolex is perfect in every detail and the Tudor is always gonna fall short. Spending $3700 on a watch is a substantial amount of money for some of us. It is more about managing one's expectations. What the Tudor does best is giving value for money. Not many brands sells you a COSC movement for under 4 grand. Tudor also charged less than a grand to upgrade to the in house 5602 movement. A Tudor lets mere mortals experience some of the Rolex luxury qualities that are otherwise unattainable for some. Just wanna share that the Black bay blue came out in 2014. The blue insert is the crown tube. Another thing that differentiates a Steel Rolex from a Tudor, and all steel watches is that the Rolex is made from 904L steel while the rest are made from 316L. Looking forward to your next review. Cheers.
@JustBlueFish6 жыл бұрын
I said a lot of positives things about the Tudor, but in comparing 2 watches I have to point out where one falls short than the other. That's the point of a comparison video right? I get this sort of feedback a lot - people seem to only focus on the negatives that I point out when I do certainly cover both the good and the bad. I wonder why that is.
@marcocastagnetti70866 жыл бұрын
Loved your Wright up couldn't agree more.How about comparing a Tudor BB to a pre ceramic rolex you know the one with the ccrapie bracket and clasp for the price of a new Rolex or more.?
@Cycad...6 жыл бұрын
Sir, you give the BB back handed compliments... words like "decent" or "it's ok" doesn't make BB owners or future owners feel confident that they are making a good purchase. It's just my opinion that comparing these two beautiful watches doesn't make much sense... would a person compare Lexus vs Toyota? Same concept, two different market segments. That's probably why you are getting so much negative feedback.
@JustBlueFish6 жыл бұрын
Sorry Darryl but it’s not really my job to make people feel confident or reinforce their purchase decisions. I’m here to share my opinion. That’s what a review is, the opinions of the presenter - a critique. The B.B. is “ok” and “decent” compared to the Submariner. If you didn’t expect the B.B. to be inferior to the Submariner when you decided to view a comparison of these vastly different quality watches your expectations were very much out of line, not my assessment and presentation. And yes it does make sense to compare things to one another that are at different price tiers. Many people want to know if it’s worth it to spend the extra money on one product over the other - in this case it obviously is.

@@JustBlueFish can you tell me accuracy of Rolex Submariner model you have in video
@vukotabrajovic59886 жыл бұрын
Wonderful review, very thorough and informative! That being said, I completely disagree with almost every point mentioned in favor of Sub, because I find it not only overly hyped and borderline boring watch, but way overpriced as well. To my eye, the more vintage-ish style of Black Bay is much more compelling than beefed-up Rolex Oyster Supercase overkill. Black Bay is different enough from that typical run-of-the-mill diver's watch aesthetic. It is a large watch for sure, but with enough elegance that this Rolex simply lacks. And about that case finishing difference...hmmm...as somebody who handled literary dozens of Rolex and Tudor watches, I can claim for sure that the case finish should be almost identical. So, if something is wrong with this Black Bay, it has to do something with his owner and not with Tudor's brushing and polishing techniques. Plus, it is obvious that the reviewer personally doesn't like this Tudor very much, so his bias shows (for example, Rolex is also notorious for its lack of anti-reflecting coating and it is really more bothering on 8500$ watch than on the 3500$), but I guess that's the point - to hear various personal opinions instead of the ridiculous press-kit type of reviews... To sum it up, although I mostly disagree with the matters said in this video, it is well done (I even subscribed to the channel etc..)so, - big thumbs up!

The Tudor has been case-polished! The lugs have totally lost their definition; the chamfer has to be crisp and clean, but here it is roundpolished. It's not soft, it's overpolished. Especially the lug on 7 o clock.

I am very certain, as I own a similar Tudor (red bezel). Check some Hi-res macro pictures and compare the definition of the chamfers and of the lugs. Also, take note of the diagonal brushing on top of the lugs. Maybe it's just the lighting in your video, but it looks very soft on yours. Also, there is a slight "break" in reflection on the lug, which heavily indicates refinishing.

There really are such better watches at that price point. Omega Seamaster pro is a better watch than the sub at half the price. IWC movements kill the sub. If you’re about to drop $8k I’d really search everywhere. I just personally don’t get the submariner obsession. It’s a Range Rover. A recognizable statue symbol. Just like the Range, they’re not worth it. And I own both lol

I owned the 114060 before and I now own the black bay in house black bezel. The Rolex's bezel is easier to grip compared to Tudor's. If money is no object, I would definitely pick the Rolex, it's just a better watch overall. Everything just looks finer and sharper in details. However, the black bay is one great watch for the money and the reason I bought one is because I love the gilt dials and vintage look of it. I have replaced my sub with a GMT BLNR and while the Tudor with in house movement is much thicker, it hasn't bothered me yet. I bought the tudor to wear it casually and in my opinion, it is great at that and it looks great on various straps too unlike modern Rolex.

The new Tudor heritage is a no brainer over the old rose Tudor 70hr power reserve, better quality bezel, more accurate time keeping, the new release also comes with a nato strap to swap out between with the steel bracelet, also on the second hand market I can pick up one for around £2300 easy practically brand new. The only reason anyone will pick the Tudor rose is because it’s slightly thinner and it has a rose symbol.

Guillo Tine, sorry buddy I don’t feel comfortable putting vids on KZbin. But don’t let the serviceability of the in house movement keep you from getting it. It may need servicing in 10 yrs. who knows what will happen by then. And even if you do service it then, the cost difference over 10 years will be insignificant. The rose and the smily face on the old BB is something purely personal and one would decide with the heart as oppose to the head. I think overall, the comfort of wearing a timepiece will prevail over the esthetics, at least for me. I think you will be much happier with the 58 cause it is much more comfortable to wear. That is if your wrist size is not on the large side.

Another great video Guy. I agree with everything you said. I have that same Black Bay. It is nowhere near my most comfortable watch. It can get heavy on the wrist as I also wear my watch low down like you explained. I am on the wait list for a Submariner no date. After viewing this video and giving it some thought I think I will now flip my Tudor and keep my Omega 2500D Planet Ocean, despite some people suggesting I do the opposite and sell the PO :). The Black Bay is too similar to the more superior Rolex Submariner, I can now see that clearly when it is presented side by side with the Rolex. It will always be in the Submariner's shadow whilst the Omega Seamaster has enough individuality and aesthetic to maintain its position in my rotation. Thanks again Guy. All you now have to do is convince me to get the date over the no date. Cheers mate.

How did you find the overall thickness on the new version?

@@JustBlueFish it's taller then my GMT2 Batman but still wears comfortable. The weight with the leather strap is perfect too. Great video by the way 👍🏻

The Black Bay 58 might get closer to the Rolex Sub overall, if not when it comes to ultimate quality. But then like the Heritage here, it’s a heck of a lot more affordable! You mention the official retail price of the Rolex, but you still can’t really get them at retail. If you want one now and not be put on a years long waiting list, you have to purchase used, where they go for way above retail! Surely you’re aware of that? A Black Bay of almost any flavor (with the exception maybe of a 58 and a GMT I believe too) you can go into an AD and purchase straight away, maybe even at a discount...there’s something to be said about that.

I can afford the sub easily but not at the point I can justify paying the inflated prices.. I'm happy with what the Tudor offers and feel like these are two completely different watches. It's the Tudor for me and maybe down the line I will sell it to fund a grail.. I do think the no date o the Tudor and the smiley text and rose logo is very balanced and has way more character and a huge amount of charm and wrist presence for an entry level luxury diver!! Thx for r review

The 39mm Tudor BB58 in blue got my money and I have a bigger wrist at 7.5" than you. My timegrapher is showing +/- 0 and the faux rivets take me back to 1958. If I need a Mercedes symbol I'll go look at the air intake on my SLK. I'm just messing with you because I have been looking for a Sub since May with no luck ... yet have been offered 2 Tudor BB58s in blue since it was announced in July. I turned down the first one because I was going to hold out for the Sub ... BUT bought the second one that came along and absolutely love getting a really nice everyday dive watch for about what I paid for my Rolex Datejust in 1989. I wanted a blue dial diver and the Rolex Smurf is not desirable, obtainable, or affordable for me.

Your a little bias obviously as you bought the roley. I agree it’s better but the price is reflected accordingly. Video could have been a quarter of the length to.

i go with the Tudor. I like Rolex watches, but I don't see any for sale in the AD. I hate the way Rolex conduct their business. Really nothing against the Rolex watches. They are excellent. I guess it's a matter of "love the one you are with".

Hey Guy. I've been enjoying your videos! I realize this was a comparison video but I just wanted to offer one thought... When Tudors are reviewed I often find that the history of the brand is overlooked in favor of opinions on cosmetics (especially from Rolex owners). Things like the Rose then Shield logos historically, the curved text being a historic design cue, moving from the Mercedes to Snowflake handset for bigger lume and use by the French Marine Nationale. Often the takeaway boils down to "it's not a Rolex" and it's a little unfortunate that it tends to stop there. Price aside, as Rolex has pushed more into looking like jewelry with the 6 digit models (thick lugs, shiny bezels, oversized bezel fonts), there are some of us that prefer Tudor retaining the classic Rolex/Tudor tool-watch aesthetic Rolex has moved away from to an extent. I realize you can't include everything in a video but I've enjoyed learning about Tudor's own tool watch history (apart from Rolex) and at least felt like it was worth mentioning since that history is the reason behind many of their current design cues. I have the 79220b and 79220n and they will likely never leave my collection. Again, this is all more of a thought than a criticism. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for watching and fair points. As it’s not a full review of the Tudor and more of a comparison I didn’t have time to dedicate to those historical points you mentioned.

I actually prefer the snowflake hands to the Mercedes hands. Of course the sword style hands are better than either. The Submariner that Rolex should make is the Ginault Ocean Rover.

The Rolex Submariner is too damn expensive. The Tudor is a great alternative, but for a bit more you can buy a Seamaster which distinguishes itself by not being a sister brand.

Awful review. One sided and lack of knowledge in many areas. This is just one man's opinion, not objective nor insightful, just an opinion video.

Congrats, you know the definition of a review. The opinion of the presenter. Clearly it doesn't align with your opinion but being as personal taste is completely subjective, I'd think you'd recognize that everyone has different opinions. Thanks for watching.
@mrb3175 жыл бұрын
@@JustBlueFish that's not a definition of a review, it's the definition of an opinion. Your 'review' isn't objective, you don't offer fair comparisons, thus it's more of an opinion. You should rename the video to 'my opinion between the rolex sub and Tudor black bay'

@@mrb317 Reviews generally ARE NOT objective. They are subjective. Read any movie, restaurant or art review. If you don't value the opinions of the person making the presentation avoid their reviews. A completely subjective review would be quite boring.

The Tudor is nice looking. What I don’t like about it, vs, Rolex, when comparing price/value is that there are no precious metals in it. The Sub has platinum on its numbers on the bezel and white gold surrounding the face indices and minute/hour hands. I know it’s not much gold/platinum. It is just the point. My personal feeling is that all watches in both of these price ranges, from Rolex and Tudor should have at least a little precious metals on them somewhere. Just my humble opinion. 😊

I have the same ETA version Tudor BB. Great watch, love it. One downside and i do not hear anybody complain about it so maybe "problem" is my "thing", but i find the outer clasp (notthe elbow joint) flimsey and tinny. Especially compared to my Rolex Explorer clasp and my Omega clasps. But maybe i am nitpicking
@ajaxforever54736 жыл бұрын
I hear you talk about the clasp in the video. Perhaps i find the clasp more flimsey than you. But i have to so say my Steinhart has just as thick metal on the clasp as my Tudor.

The clasp is better then a $200 Seiko, but it’s not very impressive for the price of the watch.

I have only experience with the North Flag MT5621 caliber. Everything works flawlessly: date, winding, hour setting and is doing -1 spd. Excellent movement. Tudor got a new fan based on how good the N.F. is and the new offerings....but those rivets :-). Even though, that weights less than the other features. Cheers!

Sub looks more rugged. A tough tool machine. Bezel in Tudor look more delicate. In the money of Tudor I prefer Omega Seamaster. I always think about Tudor Black Bay is the Sub for those who cannot afford for a SUB. PS. This Tudor piece is repolished ... very poor job made by owner or some creative watchmaker. I have better looking brushed Orient Mako II.
