Complications - Omega Accuracy - Omega (sorry its not close like this salesman wants you to believe) History - Omega Design - It's subjective Size - it's subjective Innovation - Omega Marketing - Rolex Branding - Rolex Sales - Rolex Build quality - Omega Ultimately its about how you place value

In all of my anecdotal experience, Omega is way more accurate than Rolex
@cecaju9516Ай бұрын
@@ALL-il1sw accuracy is close, but Rolex guaranteed nominal range is 20% tighter than Omega. Build quality is pretty even from my experience, but you’d need warranty return data to make an objective claim. What about wearability, case thickness, bracelet construction/adjustability/comfort? Rolex has the edge in all those areas. Re-sale value? Huge edge to Rolex (despite the nonsensical argument that real watch lovers don’t care about money). One big win for Omega that you omitted was anti-magnetism. Before you call me a Rolex fan boy, note that I own both brands and like them both and would buy both again.
@ALL-il1swАй бұрын
@@cecaju9516 don't just look at the accuracy results, you need to look at testing parameters. Rolex test their watches in the best possible conditions in order to get the best results, which is also against industry standards. METAS specifically test the watches in the worst possible conditions, to challenge the movement. Even though Rolex get better results (just) the accuracy standard from METAS is the higher standard. I deliberately didn't argue for case size, thickness and wear ability because it's so subjective. Personally I find the Sub too small, yet I can accept that you might see the SMP as too big, we come in different shapes and sizes and have different preferences so how do we objectively say one is better. You mentioned bracelet construction, how do you objectively measure that? Resale value is such a fickle concept. I can't argue against Rolex's resale being good. (Now). But it would be remiss of anyone to ignore that this could change, drastically very quickly if it was missmanaged. I won't call it hype, but from what I can see resale value will always be boosted by popularity and scarcity, yet Rolex produces a large number of products every year, what would happen if the balance between popularity and scarcity was out. What I'm trying to say here, is it would be wrong to assume and rely on strong resale value.
@ALL-il1swАй бұрын
@@cecaju9516 don't just look at the results of the test. You need to look at how Rolex change the testing parameters (contrary to industry standards) and how that helps them get the narrower results. It starts to become clear it's not close at all, and not in Rolex's favor. A lot of what you said seems subjective to me, I personally find the Sub too small. It doesn't mean it is too small, it's just not to my preference, I accept that others will prefer differently. How do you measure bracelet construction? Resale value can be fickle, is it something that should be relied upon, what if the popularity/scarcity ratio became unbalance? Could the resale value be effected?

What about design or case size? Rolex has been creating their most popular models around 40 mm case size (better for most people) whereas omega is 42mm. Furthermore, the rolex design has been copied so much that it has become iconic (owning the original, not the copy). Omega is copied a lot less from a design perspective. Rolex collection is more curated (Less models available), whereas there are so many different omega speed masters. This lowers the perceived value of each individual model and some of the icon status. If you do this accross the catalog, it also decreases the brand perception. Etc etc

1) Styling. I much prefer Omega. I see Rolex as bland. 2) Thickness. I vote for slimmer so Rolex wins here. 3) Calibres. I like the idea of George Daniel’s Co-axial escapment and Metas certification and it’s reliable vs the Rolex Chronergy which has been plagued with amplitude/timekeeping issues since release in 2015. So at this point I vote Omega. 4) Bracelets. I prefer more discreet less flashy not loud so Omega. 5) Clasps. Rolex micro adjust wins here. 6) Value retention. I buy a watch because it looks good to me. I can afford depreciation so it’s a moot point for me. Rolex is surely better for people who are tighter in this respect. Conclusion: Rolex and Omega propose different products to the market, these products are marketed differently and project different images. It’s up to each person to make up their own personal selection and choices. These preferences will always remain subjective even if Rolex has the masses preference because it shouts louder and has been doing so since inception. Omega built watches whereas Rolex outsourced their manufacturing and was stellar with publicity and sales i.e. what is marketing today. Rolex has since become an independent manufacturer.

The fact that Omega thinks it is a good idea to co-brand its watches with 007 trademark brings the brand down a few pegs (even though they make better movements etc).
