A little dry fly fishing tale from the forest of Västerbotten, Sweden.

When I edit I usually make a sloppy voiceover recording that I change when I'm done with the story. This time I kept the powerless whispering voice, I'm not sure it was a good choice. Hope you enjoy it, Thanks for watching!

the week my son was born, put all my trout stuff in a duffle , stuck it on top of of big closet and did not touch it for 20+ years. fished saltwater surf and flats, never made it back on a stream . over pandemic, rummaging through things, found that duffle: like a time capsule, my vest, flies , fly boxes, disintegrating waders , books, notes all there waiting . and my rod, a Winston I bought in the mid-90's. last year took a large rainbow on a dry on the Deerfield in Mass. 25 years between trout. now I'm obliged to care for an ill and aging person so not so free to fish. life does complicate things but the dream of being on the stream does not fade. love your films.

Rolf, I appreciate your films so much beyond just their aesthetic and the skill you demonstrate. Your work pierces some slightly mystical veil about why we fish.; it touches on the soul stuff without being pretentious or contrived. In a world of overwrought fish-porn, your films are a welcome gift.

These kind of films let you speechless. Atmosphere with your sound editing is so great, and goes perfectly with narrator. And those clips! Perfect shots all the time! That jumping trout clip.. like wtf man. How you get material like that? How many tries or hours those clips take? Insane. Respect as always

So obviously the video and the story are beautiful. More importantly, I have to imagine that spending time in an environment like that, with those sights, sounds, and smells, will be really good for your boy. Not to mention spending time with dad, learning patience, persistence, and resilience (and also great filming and editing skills). Thanks for sharing this. There's a lot to think about here.

Your films are just breath-taking. I'm italian and I travel all the way to Västerbottens Län every two years for fishing. Who's never been there can't understand what we feel, I spend every single day of my life waiting for the moment I will set foot into the plane that takes me to Lapland. Thanks for your work ❤

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.” In a small stream, there lives a trout. Not a sandy bottom, current-less stream filled with stagnant water, nor signs of life and food to eat: it was an untouched flowing stone bottom spring creek, and that means trout.

I could relate to this story (and I'm sure I'm not the only one). It became much more difficult to justify traveling for weekends to fish after I got married, so I too spent many many fish-less trips searching closer to home. It has been frustrating, but that sense of completion when you do find what you're looking for is hard to beat. Thanks Rolf, you're truly the best!

Rolf - the narration worked perfectly. I've been fly fishing for 60 years and I really loved this on many, many levels. Wonderful video. I have only caught a few grayling on a trip to Alaska. They were wonderful. There is a trick you can try for those trout in a spot you can't cast to. Move very, very slowly towards it. If anybody watching could notice you were moving, that is too fast. It might take half an hour to get into position, but if you move slowly enough, the trout won't pay any attention to you, even if you are wading right next to it. From there you can dap the fly on the surface, and catch him that way.
