You make a really good point about the 10x batteries, 40x tires, 10x pumps to break, and it becomes really annoying keeping registration paperwork in order. I currently own 2 dump trailers (5ton and 7ton) and a float. It might be a good idea to look at a roll off trailer and 5-10 bins to compliment the ones I already have. I know dump trailers are a bit more driveway friendly as compared to roll offs - but there's a real nice feeling you must get when you pull up to a jobsite with a fresh bin to replace the one you're hauling away. Dump trailer shuffle can be a real pain especially on urban roads.
@Lifes_Apprentice3 жыл бұрын
You got that right! you can set down boards for roll offs to protect driveways as well. roll offs are easier for customer to load because door opens and they sit really low to the ground as well

Very good insight and I would say best for the long run, on that note though I think first starting out I will still try the dump trailer to test the market. I can always sell or repurpose the dump trailer and buy roll offs if business is good. If it doesn't work I can unload a dump trailer pretty quick to just about anyone vs a roll off who I can only market to a particular crowd.
@BackRoadBound4 жыл бұрын
Nice breakdown. I think it may be good to start off with a couple dump trailers, grow the business then pick up a dumpster setup as business grows. The dump trailers can be more versatile & make money other ways. I believe this is how Jessie has done it. You can get a brand new Ram 2500 gas burner for under $36,000 right now that will tow 16,000lbs. I just ordered a custom 6.5ft x 10ft x 3ft Texas Pride Trailer, $5,900 with all the options I added. Gonna work my 1500 for a bit and save for a 2500 and bigger trailer if things work out.

One other thing to think about at least I have been is yes you could get a Texas Pride or other brand trailer and they are good companies not knocking them one bit, but with those manufacturers you are stuck using their dumpsters. If rolloff is your choice look for a manufacturer that use an industry standard width rail system(like the trucks use) not only will this mean you can find used dumpsters, it means that if later on down the road you want to add a rolloff truck, you don’t have to buy all new dumpsters.. just food for thought..

So many tires
@joedoesfun93362 жыл бұрын
How many tires is it when you use the same trailer but put double the miles on it (dropoff and pickup) and you use that trailer for ten roloffs compared to leaving a trailer at the jobsite and using a different trailer for the next job? Also, you should consider that when your single $28,000 trailer breaks down, has a flat, loses hydraulic, gets stolen or damaged, etc you are completely out of business. If you have a backup then you aren't scaling efficiency anymore since you spent another $28k. I think it's probably best to start with a trailer that you can use for yourself, rent, or sell if you want to get out of the business and then add roloffs as you get more business.
@randyking17042 жыл бұрын
I agree on alot but ,when you say that with trailers. People have 10 sets of tire but what no body says that with roll off you run 10 times the miles on that trailer. So I don't understand where there is a savings on that with roll offs. You will put exact same miles on one trailer as 10 dump trailers .
@Lifes_Apprentice2 жыл бұрын
Not true when you are at scale. we did 705 dumpster rentals and drove 62k miles there is no way you could do that with dumptrailers in my opinion
@randyking17042 жыл бұрын
I would also like to piont out that when you have a roll off trailer empty ,you put miles back to shop on those tires ,roll offs have winch that dumps don't. You do double miles on trailer pur rental. You run the same trailer 10 times as much so that trailer will wear out 10 times faster . I'm not running on this video ,I truly like it I just never see anyone look at it from this view. Would like to see feed back on it. Thanks and again love these videos
@Lifes_Apprentice2 жыл бұрын
I agree and have talked about this. if a dumpster is set 25 miles away it is 100 miles at least for that dumpster. when you get to a certain scale and dispatching works you can cut down some miles by dropping and picking up dumpsters in same areas
@randyking17042 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your response,I do appreciate it.
@rudychacon71752 жыл бұрын
A roll off is more efficient imo. While one dump is sitting at a customers you can pickup and drop other dumps with the same trailer, and even swap out a full for an empty right away instead of running to the dump to empty one and come back.

Jesse Mims is definitely a great KZbin guy to watch. Definitely if you want to have more than a couple dump trailers as rentals got to go with a roll-off set up for economics. The price on the dump trailers can really vary greatly depending on the quality the cheapest 7x14x4 in my area are around $5500-$6000 and they are very poor quality trailers and probably won't take the rental abuse very long. The better dump trailers like Big Tex, PJ and others of that quality same size are $900]-$10000 each. That can make even more of a difference between roll-off versus dump trailer costs.

If you have 125,000 why not start a rolloff truck and start doing concrete first then C&D? To dump a concrete box is 50 dollars renting a box is 400$ for a 20 yard box

Maybe I’m mistaken but isn’t the cost of the roll off you have a little high? You should be getting atleast 3 dumpsters and the trailer for 28k

those packages are junk in my opinion. i do have a more expensive one. this is a generic overview. you can buy used stuff as well and save some money.

get a hook truck instead of the trailer

Why a hook truck and not a cable truck?
@djpmatchbox Жыл бұрын
@@Lifes_Apprentice hook trucks are faster and easier to get bins out of weird spots. (cable truck you need to be lined up directly with it. a hook truck you can be off center by a long shot and if the hook can grab it, it'll come). I use a hook truck in the army and also trust it way more.

buy a used truck

you could buy a used truck for both sides of this and if they cost the same the result is the same

These numbers are fine, but this is actually kind of a dumb video. If you have that much money to start with you’re not going into this business. You can take that money and make a lot more money in real estate investing or a car wash or many other businesses. If you have that much money you’re not getting into this. That’s just a fact. End it would be stupid to put this much money into a new business. You start small and work your way up when you see if it is successful and if you like doing it.

i have over 15 rental properties and understand what you are saying but in todays market it is alot harder to buy good deals. this business cash flows way more money than my real estate and is growing rapidly. i disagree with you mostly although i am invested in about 5 different businesses that are all profitable. you can start a business like this and build it up slowly but then it is just a job... the main reason i made this video was because people were misinformed and i wanted to prove a point

@@Lifes_Apprentice But very few people have that much money to start up front. And it’s actually from a business sense standpoint not smart. I have a BS in finance and an MBA. You’re not gonna understand how much competition is in your area and why do you even like doing this until you have done it for a while. It makes a lot more sense to buy a used truck and cheaper equipment to get started. Then go from there. Not many people getting into this business have the kind of money you were talking about in your video. And people that do have that much money are going to do something else. And I do real estate also and I am a mortgage broker. I’m starting to buy land to subdivide and put manufactured homes on and then later maybe start building some small houses because it’s getting almost impossible to find good deals on houses to flip or renovate and rent because everybody and their brother that watches HGTV thinks they can flip a house as well as the fact that I’m in Charleston, South Carolina, and there is a ton of competition here from regional and national companies buying properties. Charleston is growing like crazy. Really all of South Carolina is one of the hottest real estate markets in the country. Record low inventory. Charleston has more than 100 people a day moving into the area because of Boeing, Bosch, Mercedes, and Volvo, not to mention people that move here that can live anywhere because they travel for work or can work from home. I get what you’re saying. And your video makes sense assuming you have that much money to put into it from day one. My only point is very few people that get into this business have that much money to invest day one. And until you find out about the competition and whether you’re going to enjoy doing it it doesn’t make sense to spend that much money, I think it’s a great business and I’m really interested in getting into it. And by buying a truck and some trailers that will help me as well as I get more involved in real estate investing. So don’t take my criticism the wrong way. I think it’s great information. I just think most people aren’t gonna have the money to do that they won. And it doesn’t make sense to buy a $50,000 truck when you can buy a used truck it’s in great shape for a fraction of that cost. In the book the millionaire next-door they talk about how most people don’t buy a new car. The smart way to buy a car is the buy one that’s 3 to 5 years old with low mileage because you get it after the majority of the depreciation and then you buy it cash and you drive it for 10 years. Buy a truck big enough to tow a dump trailer or rolloff and you’re really operating intelligently! Because you can use that truck and trailer for other things.

@@nedhill1242 completely understand. the easiest way for me to make a fair comparison was to use cost of new equipment because used can vary in price so much. you may get a good deal on a piece of equipment from your brothers uncle or something along those lines which isnt a fair comparison...
@nedhill12423 жыл бұрын
@@Lifes_Apprentice I know a lot of general contractors and subcontractors. Almost all of them go out and find good used equipment. The really big construction companies buy new equipment but most of the small and medium size guys know that’s not smart economically unless you’re making a shit ton of money. The Internet makes it extremely easy to find great deals on cars trucks equipment etc. you can buy used cars and trucks and equipment that has barely been used but you’re getting it at a discount. When my dad retired my parents bought a 37 foot fifth wheel for $16,000. It was around three years old and was a $35,000 camper when new. An older couple bought it and thought they would travel a bunch but realized they did not like it. So they sold it back to the dealer who then sold it to my parents. The shrink wrap was still on parts of the camper inside. I think I read in one of the comments below that that guy in Georgia, Mims, got started for about $10,000 truck and trailer. I would probably find a happy medium. I would buy a used tow truck that I could use for other things as well and buy a new trailer in one of those package deals with four rolloff dumpsters. And I definitely agree that there are far less costs associated with and less maintenance etc. with the rolloff trailers than the dump trailers. And of course the dump trailers are much more subject to getting stolen or vandalized. Because in your calculations the truck was the biggest part of the expense so I would find a really good used truck but buy new equipment and start off with the rolloff dumpsters.
