Here is the Biblical Truth - there is not one single example of a person being saved in the Biblical New Testament Church without a Catholic Sacrament - NOT ONE! There is not one single example of Protestant salvation that can be found anywhere in the entire Bible. Saved by Grace? Not without the Sacraments.

Sola Fide ignores - what Jesus has revealed to St John Revelation 20:11-12 (Christ’s refutes Sola Fide) The Dead Are Judged 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, the book of life. (And the dead were judged according to their works, )as recorded in the books. John 3:36 (Jesus said Works of Obedience) 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but must endure God’s wrath. Matthew 28:20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. James 2:26 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so faith apart from works is dead The Catholic Church teaches that Works of Love, Works of Obedience, Good Deeds along with Faith are active in the Final Judgment - Christ’s Teachings on Salvation- believe & obey ✅

This is the Catholic view of Justification/Sanctification, from Scripture: 1) We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8) 2) working in love (Galatians 5:6, 1 Corinthians 13) 3) in obedience to God (John 3:36) 4) and growing progressively in holiness (Matt. 5:43-48)

@clivejames5058
@clivejames5058 7 күн бұрын
@@thinkerj OK - I'll reiterate so it's clear (hopefully!) - we are indeed saved, in the Catholic Church, by grace through faith and not by works (Eph 2:8-9). It is a FREE gift from God. No one can earn their way into heaven (this was actually a heresy in the 4th Century). After we are saved, the fruits of our faith are our works, which God has prepared us to do (Eph 2:10). As we live out our faith, with the Holy Spirit guiding us. Hence, "You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone"(James 2:24).

@kentadamson6992 Күн бұрын
@@thinkerj You also proof texted. Continue reading Ephesians chapter two. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God- 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life." Ephesians 2:8-10. We are saved by grace through faith, unto good works in Christ. Paul never says we are justified by faith alone. For Paul, saving faith is faith working through love (Galatians 5:6, 1 Corinthians 13:13, 1 Corinthians 13:2). The only place where the words "faith" and "alone" appear in the New Testament is when the phrase is rejected in James 2:24. Catholics affirm that we absolutely cannot earn our salvation. The difference between Catholics and Protestant's is really a difference in where are righteousness comes from. The reformers taught that our righteousness is kind of an alien imputed righteousness, where God looks at the work of Christ and therefore sees us as holy, even though we are not. Catholicism teaches that Christ's righteousness is infused into the believer. Therefore, by the saving work of Christ actually making us righteous.

@@jayman1338 the catechism teaches what Scripture teaches (Old and New Testament) and what is confirmed by the ancient church fathers and ancient Christianity. Let’s begin: (1) We are not in competition with God and not on the same ontological map of being as He, see Exodus 3:14. get this wrong and you’ll run into modern heretical ideas like “synergism” with regard to justification; (2) Hebrews in particular and the entire New Testament reinforce the idea that salvation can be lost through apostasy and sin. Too much scripture involved to begin citing; (3) we have free will AND efficacious and sufficient grace. God’s working out of these two is a mystery, as is His plan for for salvation, predestination, and desire that all be saved. it’s mystery. Yes, we have e means available to us (sacraments) to avoid sin and as Paul says to run the good race and endure to the end 4) Romans is bookmarked with Chapters 1 and 12 through 15 with God’s command for faith that is bound with being obedient. The 613 Jewish laws are essentially replaced with 2 … love and show Charity. Don’t talk to Catholics about “works” (Remember we condemned Pelagianism) until you understand that we’re really talking about obedience in response to scripture. (5) a baptism clearly according to scripture accomplishes something … a grace. sola scriptura (ironically) violates its own precept by being itself a product of modern tradition. The New Testament itself is the product of tradition and concern for canonicity, apostolic fidelity and succession, etc. As Catholics we apply those criteria to oral tradition of Church Fathers without who we would not have, let’s see, foundations to Christianity such as the trinity and a triune God, the idea of sin, the Eucharist etc. QUESTION: do you believe in a final judgment? what will be the nature of that judgment? What can be lost? are we guaranteed Heaven based on predestination?

Robert Charles Sproul was my favourite Reformed author. His books about Reformed teaching are easy to understand. The questions I would like to ask Liguonier Ministries: 1. According to Sproul the use of Latin in the Catholic Church is the reason why the Catholic Church ended up with wrong meaning of Greek verb "to justify" while Luther who worked on Greek New Testament got it correctly. However, the Eastern Orthodox Church who continued using Greek to this day, does not teach the same justification as that of the Reformers. The phrase "justified by faith" in New Testament appears four times (Rom. 3:28, 5:1, Gal. 2:16, 3:24). In Greek three of them (Rom. 5:1, Gal. 2:16, 3:24) appear in passive aorist tense while that of Rom. 3:28 is in passive present tense. Those two tenses do not indicate a completed action in the past. If justification is meant to be one time event is by faith alone, then Paul would write those verses in passive perfect tense. Unlike that of English, Greek perfect tense indicates the action described by the verb (to be justified) is completed in the past with continuing result to the present (from speaker/writer point of view). 2. According to Reformers through (one time) justification by faith alone we are counted or declared as righteous based on righteousness of Christ imputed on us. The reason is we can never be able to become righteous that meets God's standard and therefore the only solution is we use righteousness Christ to cover our unrighteousness. When God looks at us, instead of seeing our sins and unrighteousness, he will see the perfect righteousness of Christ. How do you reconcile this concept of external/alien righteousness of Christ with Ezekiel 18:20 that says "the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself", which means we cannot use other person's righteousness? 3. Imputed righteousness concept of the Reformers implies that we are both justified (counted as righteous) and sinners at the same time, which in Latin is "simul iustus et peccator". How do you reconcile it with Ezekiel 33:12 that says "the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins", which means we cannot become righteous and sinner at the same time?

If I can make a humble suggestion, if someone wants to learn about the teachings of the Catholic Church, read their documents for yourself. Sproul got a lot wrong here, starting within the first couple minutes of the presentation. I was raised Protestant and followed guys like John MacArthur and Sproul for years. a few years back, I started reading the early church fathers, what you find is that Protestantism is pretty much entirely absent. It was in fact the Catholic Church that defined and defended that doctrines of the Trinity, two natures of Christ, and put together the canon of scripture. At any rate, you are better off reading the catechism or official church teaching yourself than letting someone like Sproul interpret it for you. One of the main things that struck me about Protestantism is that the reformers would not even recognize the churches today that were founded in their name. Luther completely believed in the efficacy of baptism, the Eucharist, praying to and venerating Mary as well as other teachings that are very Catholic in nature. Be smart friends, do some of the heavy lifting yourself and study things for yourself instead of trusting everything you see on the internet.

The Catholic view of Salvation is that Christ’s death is a sacrifice of atonement (see Leviticus chapter 5). Christ offers himself, not just nails through his wrists, but his whole life is a offering given to God. Holy Week is Christ displaying before our very 👀 the ethic that he commands for us. Christ surrenders himself to wicked men who martyr him, not God killing Christ, but us. Not as a penal substitution but as a martyr to charity, holiness and righteousness. As Paul says he took on the nature of a servant, obedient to death on a Cross, therefore God exalted him. If you follow Imputed Justification the rest of the Bible (mostly about moral behavior and warnings) makes no sense.

At confession, we are given a penance, but that is to remediate temporal punishment (aka time in purgatory), you don’t have to do it to make reconciliation effective. Reconciliation happens at absolution, there is no “work” needed other than repentance.
@gerardine9675
@gerardine9675 Жыл бұрын
There is no reconciliation for the unsaved. When unsaved people confess their sins, whether to God or to a priest, they are not forgiven by God until God converts them to His truth and they then repent of the sins they committed before God gave them the gift of salvation, including the sin of unbelief, when before salvation they believed in a religion which told them to believe what God has either forbidden or not permitted. God isn't interested in penance only repentance. Penance serves no purpose whereas repentance is genuine desire and effort to stop committing sins. God demands repentance not penance. John the Baptist, Jesus and the apostles never told anyone to do penance for their sins to shorten time in purgatory for themselves or for others, but to repent which is a turning away from sin to stop offending God.

You do be right: Council of Trent, Session VI, Chapter VII says "Jesus Christ, who, when we were enemies, for the exceeding charity wherewith he loved us, merited Justification for us by His most holy Passion on the wood of the cross" Some Protestants will get confused when Catholics say good works are necessary for salvation and think that means good works merit salvation, but that is not what Catholics believe. As Paul says: Philippians 2:12-13 "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose." @Daniel Pan the New Testament was written by the Apostles, that's why it is inerrant, because God was speaking through the Apostles. We don't brutally enforce a dogma the way the Catholic Church has done in the past so of course we have more variety. That's not always bad. And I believe many Catholics have genuine relationships with God as well, no thanks to their leadership. But if both Protestants and Catholics can be genuine Christians, then Catholicism isn't true.

Why could I never consider becoming a Protestant? Because of what I should be obliged to believe. That Jesus Christ founded a Church. He promised that he would be with it always and that it would never fail. A Protestant must believe that the Church founded by Jesus Christ fizzled out in about a hundred years. That there was no true Christian Church until Martin Luther founded the many not very holy and non apostolic Churches fifteen hundred years later. I should be also obliged to believe that the Bishops who met in Council to define the dogmas of the Trinity and the divinity of Christ got it wrong. That, without the blessings offered by the many not very holy and non apostolic Churches, outside which, Protestants believe, there is no salvation, all were destined to the fires of Hell for fifteen hundred years and that the true way to salvation has only been available for about five hundred years. Well, you believe that, if you like.

"Imputation" vs. "Infusion." This is the substance of the argument. Paul addresses it in his specific grief against those leaders in the Galatian churches that pushed the idea of "infusion." I guess their need for being recognized as "father confessors" to satisfy God outweighed their need for truth. The temptation to use knowledge as a weapon looms big in the mind of "control freaks."

Sin doesn't destroy your salvation so mechanistically as you act like Catholics think. Rather YOU destroy your salvation if YOUR sin is truly mortal ( the list "can be considered mortal", not that it definitely is if the act is done...). This is because mortal sin is the act of a person who says in their heart that they're not sure (luke warm) or don't want to be with God and thus reject God's salvation and send themselves to Hell. Mortal sin is stuff which can be an act of one who is actively opposed to God's desire for them. The sin act isn't separate front them but rather a result of their state of heart already, or is that which gives death to faith or enacts and fulfills the desires or will of the heart. Just as works are that which give life to faith or enacts and fulfills the desires or will of the heart, afforded to them by God's grace (in the protestant rc sproul sense)

You are wrong that satisfaction earns you your justification and forgiveness. You are already granted absolution if you have the mere will to do penance which in no way makes up for anything you've done, just like an apology gift has absolutely nothing to do with making up for pain you've caused someone. Yet you still have a recognised yearning in yourself to send the gift or do the penance. It is a sign of love and the mere desire to do some act of love as a result of your wrongdoing is a natural part of the nature of your repentance. It is the first steps of your turning from sin. It is nothing to do with earning anything or gaining your justification. Go read Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma by OTT. It's all in there. Including references to all the church documents where the dogma comes from.

At least most Protestant churches do in fact teach the true gospel that saves. The Roman Catholic church does not. They teach a false and fatal gospel that add works, sacraments, the intercession of a human priest, and the intercession of a false deity called Mary. Lastly, the faithful are those who put their complete faith in Christ alone, not in the Roman Catholic church, it's sacraments, it's traditions, it's so-called "infallible" Popes or any other such nonsense. Only Jesus saves.

Fruits of our faith (after we are saved) are our works. Sacraments are all Biblical, and especially Baptism and the Eucharist, both given to us by Christ Himself. Mary is not a deity, only God is. She is a blessed woman who was chosen by God to bear the Messiah and as such, she is respected and loved - but never worshipped. Popes are only infallible when they speak ex-cathedra and only on matters of faith and morals. Romans 5:9-10 How much more then, since we are now justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath. Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, once reconciled will we be saved by his life. These two verses make the difference between our initial and present justification - having now been reconciled to God - and our salvation which is not just a one time accomplishment/a final done deal but rather ongoing into the future/futuristic; conclusively, they show that justification and salvation do not happen (fully) at the same time. In Romans chapter 5 St Paul says that by faith in Christ and through Christ we gain access to this justifying grace in which we stand and which brings peace between God and us. Because salvation is not by faith alone St Paul rightly introduces saving hope into the formula. St Paul, not explicitly, but by implication says that hope is required with faith for salvation. Romans 5:2b and we boast in hope of the glory of God, in other words a very loving God will never fail us nor forsake us unless we give up. St Paul continues to make his point by saying that even our afflictions produce a chain of virtues - endurance, character - and ending up in giving us great/sure hope in God, which hope does not disappoint us as the Holy Spirit makes us feel in our hearts the reassuring and abundant love with which God loves us. In Romans 5: 6, 8 St Paul points out that God has proven his love for us, namely, "For Christ, while we were still helpless, yet died at the appointed time for the ungodly" and "But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us." In my opinion although both faith and hope have an element of certainty to them yet they are not guarantees by themselves.

@Guess Work There are a couple of pasages I would like to bring up, if you will bear with me. "8 “When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’9 “The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius.10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius.11 When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner.12 ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’13 “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius?14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you.15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” - Matthew 20:8-16 Every believer receives the same salvation, regardless of how effective we are or how long we have been believers. We who have been following Christ for a long time must be careful not to become jealous of young believers or those who die right after receiving Jesus. "By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved-even though only as one escaping through the flames... So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours,whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future -all are yours,and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God. - 1 Corinthians 3:10-15,21-23 Our works and growth in the Spirit will be tested by fire, but the foundation is Jesus. Even if your works fail the test, it is Jesus that saves you.

I can answer that for you. I am protestant converting to Catholicism. Catholics believe than when you are regenerated by the grace of God (you do nothing to deserve this) God infuses the gift of charity (or love) which makes it possible for you to do good works. As Paul says in Philippians 2:12-13 "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose." So Catholic's believe that when we do good works it is God working in us and through us. And Catholics believe that all of this that I just mentioned was merited by and made possible by the work of Jesus. Council of Trent, Session VI, Chapter VII says "Jesus Christ, who, when we were enemies, for the exceeding charity wherewith he loved us, merited Justification for us by His most holy Passion on the wood of the cross" Hope this clears things up, have a great day! One is already restored to a state of grace before the "works of satisfaction"... The works which are penance are actually a sign of ones desire to love either God or others whom they offended. This is a very natural thing. When you smash something of your friends, you desire to send flowers or a gift or something with your apology. And you always say "this in no way makes up for the suffering I've caused, I just am deeply sorry and it is part of my apology as a sign of my deep sorrow and love for you and our friendship or relationship. And so the act is a mere extension of the repentant love one feels and has nothing to do with whether you are already forgiven or not. But it is recognised that one who does not have this desire in them to do good out of a first sign of love to regrow what was destroyed, this person likely is not sorry or was never sorry in the first place. There is something broken in their so called repentance. And naturally, if this is true, then they will not be forgiven for they did not repent and turn. Penance is the first steps of turning from ones evil ways. If you didn't take the first step, you haven't truly repented. The whole relationship of penance to repentance is the exact outplaying of he parable of the servant who owed the King. He was forgiven, and then he didn't show signs of his repentance and for his failings in not forgiving others who owed him and so then had his forgiveness of his debt taken back from him.

Romans 4:8, where Paul quotes Psalm 32:2: “Blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not reckon [Greek: logizomai] his sin.” David wrote these words in the context of having confessed his abominable sins of murder and adultery, for which he was forgiven. He writes in verse five of the same psalm, “I acknowledged my sin to thee, and I did not hide my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”; then thou didst forgive the guilt of my sin.” For David, this was why God didn’t reckon his sin. But God’s forgiveness of David’s sins was not merely a legal declaration without some existential effect on David. To the contrary, David describes God’s forgiveness of his sins as being made “clean” and “whiter than snow” (51:7). And herein lies the key to God no longer reckoning David’s sin: the objective guilt of those sins had been removed. God’s reckoning was an evaluation that correctly corresponded to the objective reality of that which was being reckoned.

The comments below are absolutely right. Remember, just because God forgave David his sin doesn’t mean there was not temporal consequences for that sin. Remember David’s son died and his other son Solomon lost the Kingdom of Israel

Okay, 5 minutes in and I’m already disappointed. I grew up listening to literally thousands of hours of sproul/ligionier sermons and lectures. Sproul here wants us to believe that the idea of infused righteousness is a Latin development when it was also propounded by the Greek church as well. So, what he’s doing here is creating in the listener (who doesn’t know any better), the idea that the early church misunderstood justification because they didn’t consult the original Greek. Completely false and it’s awful to think God allowed his church to be in the dark on justification for 1500 years until a German monk set em straight.

Sproul's understanding of mortal sin upto the 13th or 14th minute even when he quotes Calvin on this issue is easily refuted by our Lord Himself in Matthew 5:21-22. So our Lord gives confirmation that the Catholic Church which He established is right on this issue and that Luther, Calvin and even Sproul are wrong over here.

Wow... Did you bother to ask what is meant by infusing the grace into a person given that Catholics also describe grace as a gift of goodness from God to man? To have that goodness infused into you or grace infused into you is to say there is an effect of God's grace in the one whom it is poured out upon, i.e in the wine whom a gift of grace is given... This effect producing a goodness within the one receiving which outpours from them into the world... What's the problem?

In that particular passage, Jesus criticised Jewish leaders who love “the place of honour at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, and salutations in the market places, and being called ‘rabbi’ by men” (Matt. 23:6-7). He was using hyperbole (exaggeration) to show the scribes and Pharisees how sinful and proud they were for not looking humbly to God as the source of all authority and fatherhood and teaching and instead setting themselves up as the ultimate authorities, father figures, and teachers. The apostle Paul regularly referred to Timothy as his child. The apostle Peter followed the same custom, referring to Mark as his son and the apostle John did the same. By referring to these people as their spiritual sons and spiritual children, Peter, Paul, and John imply their own roles as spiritual fathers. Finally, you no doubt referred to your male parent as 'father' so you need to use discernment when reading this passage and understand why hyperbolic figure of speech was being used. Interestingly, Christ used hyperbole often, for example when he declared, “If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell” (Matt. 5:29, cf. 18:9; Mark 9:47). Christ certainly did not intend this to be applied literally, for otherwise all Christians would be blind amputees! (1 John 1:8; 1 Tim. 1:15).

@Scribeintheink What all the SAINTS say “No Salvation outside the Chtholic church.” Pope St. Clement the first 88-97 A.D. heretical teachers pervert the scriptures and bibles and tried to get into heaven with false Bibles, for they have formed their human assemblies later then the Catholic Church. From this previously existing and most true Catholic Church, it is very clear that these later heresies Heretics and others which have come into being since then, are counterfeit and novel inventions. St. Ignatius of Antioch a disciple of St Peter and St Paul died 107 A.D. For as many as are of God and of Jesus Christ are also with the Bishop. And as many as shall, in the “exercise of repentance” return into the unity of the Catholic Church, these, too, shall belong to God, that day may live according To Jesus Christ. Do not error, and sin, my brethren. If any man follows him that makes a schism in the Catholic church he shall not inherit the kingdom of God if anyone walks according to a strange opinion, he agrees not with the passion of Christ. Saint Irenaeus, died 202 A.D. - the Catholic church is the entrance to life all others are thieves, and robbers, and Heretics. On this account we are bound to avoid them… We hear it declared of the unbelieving and the blinded of this world that they should not inherit the world of life, which is to come.. Resist them in defense of the only true and Life Giving Catholic faith, which the church has received from the Apostles and imparted to her sons. (against heresies book 3). Saint Cyrian, died 258 A.D. - he who has turned his back on the Catholic Church of Christ shall not come to the rewards of Christ he is an alien a worldling, an enemy and heretic. You cannot have God for your father if you have not the Catholic Church or your mother our Lord warns us when he says “ he that is not with me is against me and he that gatherth not with me scatters” whosoever breaks the peace and Harmony of Christ acts against Christ whoever gathers elsewhere then the Catholic Church scatters the Church of Christ.” ( Unity of the Catholic Church) Saint Irenaeus, against heresies book for chapter 41 A.D. 180 - those who do not obey him being disinherited by him have cease to be his sons wherefore they cannot receive his inheritance he who does not hold this Unity does not hold the law of God does not hold the Catholic faith of the father and the son does not hold life and salvation. Bishop Firmilean, died 269 A.D.-- what is the greatness of his error, and what the depth of his blindness, who says that remission of sins can be granted in the synagogues of Heretics, and does not abide on the foundation of the one true Catholic Church. Lactantius,died 310 A.D. - It is the Catholic Church “alone” which retains true worship !! This is the Fountain of Truth. This is the abode of the faith, this is the temple of God; and none other, into which if anyone shall not enter or from which, if anyone shall go out, he is a stranger to the hope of life and eternal salvation. ( the Divine Institutes) Saint Cyril of Jerusalem died 386 A.D. - Abhor all Heretics.. heed not their fair speaking or their mock humility; for they are serpents, a “brood of vipers” Remember that, when Judas said “Hail Rabbi,” the salutation was an act of betrayal. Do not be deceived by “the kiss” but Beware of the venom. Abhor such men, therefore, and shun the blasphemers of the Holy Spirit, for whom there is no pardon. For what Fellowship have you with men without hope. Let us confidently say to God regarding all Heretics, “Did I not hate, O Lord, those who hate Thee, and did I not Pine away because of your enemies ?!! For there is an enmity that is laudable, as it is written, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and her seed.” Friendship with the serpent produces enmity with God, and death. Let us shun those from whom God turns away.( the fathers of the church) Saint John Chrysostom doctor of the church died 407 A.D. - We know that salvation belongs to the Catholic Church “alone” and that no one can partake of Christ nor be saved outside the Catholic Church and the Catholic faith. (De Capto Eutropia) Saint Jerome, died 4/20 A.D. - As I follow no leader save Christ, so I communicate with none but your blessedness, that is, with the chair of Peter. For this, I know, is the rock on which the Catholic Church is built… This is the Ark of Noah, and he who is not found in it Shall Perish when the flood prevails… and as for Heretics, I have never spared them; on the contrary, I have seen to it in every possible way that the church's enemies are also my enemies.(Manual of Patrology and history of theology) Saint Bede the venerable died 7:35 A.D. - Just as all within the ark were saved and all outside of it were carried away when the flood came, so when all who are pre-ordained to eternal life have entered the Catholic Church, the end of the world will come and all will perish who are found outside of it.(Hexaemeron) Saint Thomas Aquinas died 1274 A.D. - There is no entering into salvation outside the Catholic Church just as in the time of the deluge there was none outside the ark which denotes the Catholic Church. Blessed Peter Canisius died 1597 A.D.- Outside of this communion with the Catholic Church - as outside of the Ark of Noah - there is absolutely no salvation for Mortals : Not for Jews or pagans who never received the faith of the Catholic Church, Nor for Heretics who, having received it, corrupted it !! Neither for the excommunicated or those who for any other serious cause deserve to be put away and separated from the body of the Catholic Church like pernicious members… for the rule of Cyprian and Augustine is certain : he will not have God for his father who would not have the church for his mother. (Catechismi Latini et Germanici) Venable robber to Bellarmine died 1621 A.D. - Outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation… I believe in the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the Forgiveness of sins… For this reason the Catholic church is compared with the Ark of Noah, because just as during the deluge, everyone perished who was not in the ark, so now those Parish who are not in the Catholic Church. (De Sacramento Baptism) St. John Marie Vinny died 1859 A.D. - My children, why are there no sacraments in other religions ? because there is no salvation there !! We have the sacraments at our disposal because we belong to the true religion of salvation the Catholic Church. Athanasius Creed, 370 A.D. - Whoever wishes to be saved before all things it is necessary that he holds the Catholic faith, and no other, which unless each one preserves whole and inviolate, without doubt he will perish everlastingly, this is the Catholic faith which unless Each One Believes faithfully and firmly he cannot be saved. ON JUSTIFICATION CANON I.-If any one saith, that man may be justified before God by his own works, whether done through the teaching of human nature, or that of the law, without the grace of God through Jesus Christ; let him be anathema. CANON II.-If any one saith, that the grace of God, through Jesus Christ, is given only for this, that man may be able more easily to live justly, and to merit eternal life, as if, by free will without grace, he were able to do both, though hardly indeed and with difficulty; let him be anathema. CANON III.-If any one saith, that without the prevenient inspiration of the Holy Ghost, and without his help, man can believe, hope, love, or be penitent as he ought, so as that the grace of Justification may be bestowed upon him; let him be anathema. [Page 45] CANON IV.-If any one saith, that man's free will moved and excited by God, by assenting to God exciting and calling, nowise co-operates towards disposing and preparing itself for obtaining the grace of Justification; that it cannot refuse its consent, if it would, but that, as something inanimate, it does nothing whatever and is merely passive; let him be anathema. CANON V.-If any one saith, that, since Adam's sin, the free will of man is lost and extinguished; or, that it is a thing with only a name, yea a name without a reality, a figment, in fine, introduced into the Church by Satan; let him be anathema. CANON VI.-If any one saith, that it is not in man's power to make his ways evil, but that the works that are evil God worketh as well as those that are good, not permissively only, but properly, and of Himself, in such wise that the treason of Judas is no less His own proper work than the vocation of Paul; let him be anathema. CANON VII.-If any one saith, that all works done before Justification, in whatsoever way they be done, are truly sins, or merit the hatred of God; or that the more earnestly one strives to dispose himself for grace, the more grievously he sins: let him be anathema. CANON VIII.-If any one saith, that the fear of hell,-whereby, by grieving for our sins, we flee unto the mercy of God, or refrain from sinning,-is a sin, or makes sinners worse; let him be anathema. CANON IX.-If any one saith, that by faith alone the impious is justified; in such wise as to mean, that nothing else is required to co-operate in order to the obtaining the grace of Justification, and that it is not in any way necessary, that he be prepared and disposed by the movement of his own will; let him be anathema. CANON X.-If any one saith, that men are just without the justice of Christ, whereby He merited for us to be justified; or that it is by that justice itself that they are formally just; let him be anathema. [Page 46] CANON XI.-If any one saith, that men are justified, either by the sole imputation of the justice of Christ, or by the sole remission of sins, to the exclusion of the grace and the charity which is poured forth in their hearts by the Holy Ghost, and is inherent in them; or even that the grace, whereby we are justified, is only the favour of God; let him be anathema. CANON XII.-If any one saith, that justifying faith is nothing else but confidence in the divine mercy which remits sins for Christ's sake; or, that this confidence alone is that whereby we are justified; let him be anathema. CANON XIII.-If any one saith, that it is necessary for every one, for the obtaining the remission of sins, that he believe for certain, and without any wavering arising from his own infirmity and disposition, that his sins are forgiven him; let him be anathema. CANON XIV.-If any one saith, that man is truly absolved from his sins and justified, because that he assuredly believed himself absolved and justified; or, that no one is truly justified but he who believes himself justified; and that, by this faith alone, absolution and justification are effected; let him be anathema. CANON XV.-If any one saith, that a man, who is born again and justified, is bound of faith to believe that he is assuredly in the number of the predestinate; let him be anathema. CANON XVI.-If any one saith, that he will for certain, of an absolute and infallible certainty, have that great gift of perseverance unto the end,-unless he have learned this by special revelation; let him be anathema. CANON XVII.-If any one saith, that the grace of Justification is only attained to by those who are predestined unto life; but that all others who are called, are called indeed, but receive not grace, as being, by the divine power, predestined unto evil; let him be anathema. CANON XVIII.-If any one saith, that the commandments of God are, even for one that is justified and constituted in grace, impossible to keep; let him be anathema. [Page 47] CANON XIX.-If any one saith, that nothing besides faith is commanded in the Gospel; that other things are indifferent, neither commanded nor prohibited, but free; or, that the ten commandments nowise appertain to Christians; let him be anathema. CANON XX.-If any one saith, that the man who is justified and how perfect soever, is not bound to observe the commandments of God and of the Church, but only to believe; as if indeed the Gospel were a bare and absolute promise of eternal life, without the condition of observing the commandments ; let him be anathema. CANON XXI.-If any one saith, that Christ Jesus was given of God to men, as a redeemer in whom to trust, and not also as a legislator whom to obey; let him be anathema. CANON XXII.-If any one saith, that the justified, either is able to persevere, without the special help of God, in the justice received; or that, with that help, he is not able; let him be anathema. CANON XXIII.-lf any one saith, that a man once justified can sin no more, nor lose grace, and that therefore he that falls and sins was never truly justified; or, on the other hand, that he is able, during his whole life, to avoid all sins, even those that are venial,- except by a special privilege from God, as the Church holds in regard of the Blessed Virgin; let him be anathema. CANON XXIV.-If any one saith, that the justice received is not preserved and also increased before God through good works; but that the said works are merely the fruits and signs of Justification obtained, but not a cause of the increase thereof; let him be anathema. CANON XXV.-If any one saith, that, in every good work, the just sins venially at least, or-which is more intolerable still-mortally, and consequently deserves eternal punishments; and that for this cause only he is not damned, that God does not impute those works unto damnation; let him be anathema. CANON XXVI.-If any one saith, that the just ought not, for their good works done in God, to expect and hope for an eternal recompense from God, through His mercy and the merit of Jesus Christ, if so be that they persevere to the end in well [Page 48] doing and in keeping the divine commandments; let him be anathema. CANON XXVII.-If any one saith, that there is no mortal sin but that of infidelity; or, that grace once received is not lost by any other sin, however grievous and enormous, save by that of infidelity ; let him be anathema. CANON XXVIII.-If any one saith, that, grace being lost through sin, faith also is always lost with it; or, that the faith which remains, though it be not a lively faith, is not a true faith; or, that he, who has faith without charity, is not a Chris taught; let him be anathema. CANON XXIX.-If any one saith, that he, who has fallen after baptism, is not able by the grace of God to rise again; or, that he is able indeed to recover the justice which he has lost, but by faith alone without the sacrament of Penance, contrary to what the holy Roman and universal Church-instructed by Christ and his Apostles-has hitherto professed, observed, and taugh; let him be anathema. CANON XXX.-If any one saith, that, after the grace of Justification has been received, to every penitent sinner the guilt is remitted, and the debt of eternal punishment is blotted out in such wise, that there remains not any debt of temporal punishment to be discharged either in this world, or in the next in Purgatory, before the entrance to the kingdom of heaven can be opened (to him); let him be anathema. CANON XXXI.-If any one saith, that the justified sins when he performs good works with a view to an eternal recompense; let him be anathema. CANON XXXII.-If any one saith, that the good works of one that is justified are in such manner the gifts of God, as that they are not also the good merits of him that is justified; or, that the said justified, by the good works which he performs through the grace of God and the merit of Jesus Christ, whose [Page 49] living member he is, does not truly merit increase of grace, eternal life, and the attainment of that eternal life,-if so be, however, that he depart in grace,-and also an increase of glory; let him be anathema. CANON XXXIII.-If any one saith,that,by the Catholic doctrine touching Justification, by this holy Synod inset forth in this present decree, the glory of God, or the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ are in any way derogated from, and not rather that the truth of our faith, and the glory in fine of God and of Jesus Christ are rendered (more) illustrious; let him be anathema.

Unfortunately R.C. has not represented Catholic teachings well at all. We believe that salvation is by faith alone if we understand faith as that formed faith which works through love(Galatians 5:6). R.C. seems to think we believe salvation is kind of this process that starts with God giving us some kind of weak grace that doesn't really do anything or bring about salvation and then we go to baptism by our own strength enabled by this so called grace and then we have to cooperate for the rest of our lives to merit final perseverance. Wrong, if I was a teacher I would have to give him a failing grade and you can't criticize something well unless you understand it. What we actually believe is that God from before the foundation of the world has chosen a people from among sinful humanity to make righteous(we call them the elect) and the rest he has chosen to leave in their sins(we them the reprobates). In salvation grace is primary for Catholics; by this we mean absolutely no one could be saved or would be saved without God working in them because eternal life is not natural to man but an elevation above what is natural. If we speak of this order by which a typical man is saved we would say it begins with God's decree of election of that person before the foundation of the world, second God's prevenient grace which the elect person responds to in baptism(or for infants the parents of the elect respond to); let it also be known that I believe this grace is effectual(not irresistible because there's no imposition on the will, God moves our will freely) but some other Catholics such as Molinists disagree on this point. After baptism when we speak of works being meritorious we mean that God enables us by His grace to preform certain good acts which He will credit to us as His friends, these works are as R.C. correctly pointed out not strictly meritorious but are congruous. Unfortunately he again makes a mistake saying that these congruous merits earn us heaven, no they merely pay some or all of the temporal punishment we have accrued by sin. Since our demeritorious sins have strictly merited eternal punishment only a strictly meritorious sacrifice is able to make atonement for us, Christ's death alone makes satisfaction for sin. So God in preparing and usings us to accomplish these good works gives us the reward. Can a person in the state of grace fall into mortal sin and have to be reconciled? Yes because God to accomplish certain goods permits certain defects however it is God's will that the elect certainly will be finally reconciled to God(we call this the grace of a happy death). Does that mean that all who were in the state of grace will be reconciled before their death? No because not everyone who God places into the state of grace is elected to final perseverance. There are elect and nonelect Christians(2 Peter 2:20), God gives the grace of conversion to both the elect and nonelect but only to the elect God grants final perseverance. How can we know if we are the elect or not? We can never know with infallible certainty until we finish the race but the Bible does tell us to "Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith" which can give us a kind of assurance. If God is strengthening us with his gifts of faith, hope and charity then we can have assurance that God will save us if we continue until the end. We can never know if we will continue until the end though because on our own we could never do it and we dont know if it's the mind of God to give us this grace. Overall I would have to give R.C. a failing grade on this presentation, it was very wrong. I won't impute any bad intentions to him because I actually agree with much of his writings but he just never truly understood Catholicism well.

You see JUSTIFICATION is spelled out in the Bible. There is no such thing as the Roman Catholic JUSTIFICATION. We are called Christians in the Biok of Acts. See people need to follow the WORD OF GOD and not the doctrines of men like in Catholicism. There is none righteous. That is why Jesus the righteous came and became sin for us that we would be righteous in him. There are no SACRAMENTS in the Bible. Catholicism teaches doctrines of men that the Bible says we should stay away from. The Bible teaches us to repent and be baptized........ We are under grace and faith. Looking unto JESUS the Author And Finisher of our FAITH. The Bible does not say look unto Mary. We are to follow the word of God not denominations. People need to stop leading people astray. There is no mortal sin in the Bible. Sin is SIN. You see the Bible says not to add to the word of God. Rome and the Catholic Pope needs to REPENT. Read your Bible and don't be led away by people or Catholic doctrines that speak on things not even in the Bible. Doctrines of men are taught to control you. The Preist cannot absolve anyone. They cannot even absolve themselves. Praise the Lord and keep Jesus in your heart and soul and live a holy life.

It’s so easy to see that the Catholic Church is the true church of Christ if you just look at church history from an unbiased point of view. Also if you do your unbiased research on Martin Luther and the things he did and said. It’s quiet simple really. You are majorly deceived if you believe faith alone doctrine. James chapter 2 verse 24 you see a man is justified by works and NOT by faith alone. Please do your research, do it well. Buy a translation of the Bible older than the king James. They literally changed that bible and added words and removed sentences to fit there doctrine. If you buy a duay rhemies bible. Which is translated straight from the Latin vulgate which is as old as the 300s. You will see how much they changed it. It’s quiet disturbing. I hope you all come to the true church of Christ that can trace its lineage all the way back to the apostles. The Catholic Church. Also, one more thing, so your telling me for 1500 years all those Christian’s were wrong until Martin Luther came along five hundred years ago and got the true doctrine? Give me a break. The man was a literal monster. Just do your research on the things he said and did and not just from Protestant sources that try to make sense of what he did and justify it. The relationship with God (Justification) is immediately restored in a good confession when the Priest gives absolution irrespective if the penitent completes the penance the Priest gives the penitent. The wound on one’s nature can be healed only in a longer process. The penance given by the Priest has the goal of “ helping the relationship of the person with himself, and the world. And so penance is one of four elements of a good confession along with contrition, confession and absolution. Sin injures and the sinner himself, as well as his relationship with God and neighbor. For the sinner to recover his spiritual health he must make amens for the sin: he must “make satisfaction for’ or ‘expiates’ his sins. The penance the Priest gives may only be a token of the restitution God may require for our sins to be fully satisfied and if we fail to accomplish the full satisfaction Gods justice may require, we will have to make full restitution in the next life I.e. Purgatory. But remember all in Purgatory are on their way to heaven, but not any second salvation opportunity. Also the CatholicChurch also has a corporate act of confession of venial sins which takes place at the beginning of every Mass.

Wow! What a clown. I'm a Catholic and he's gotten just about everything wrong. First, he conflates justification with righteousness. Second, Matthew 5:19 "Unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisees, ye shall not enter Heaven." Proving venial sins. Third, this idea of the sacraments is wrong. We don't lose justification. We can lose grace. But as James said, "Faith without works is dead." In other words, if you've got something hindering your faith, like a wrong idea of who God is, your evil works will prove that your faith is leading to death. The only thing we can take with us after death is our works. Let's make an assumption: only the children of God will have justification. And I'm talking real justification, which can only come from the sacraments. Namely "reconciliation." But there are others, like marriage. The sacraments are only outward signs of inward grace. The priests are full of grace, having lived a life of holiness, free of worldly distractions, their justification is 100% pure and their lives sanctified by personal holiness of fasting, abstinence, etc.

For all those who have been mislead by this video. Here is the official Catholic Church teaching on Justification: 1992 *Justification has been merited for us by the Passion of Christ* who offered himself on the cross as a living victim, holy and pleasing to God, and whose blood has become the instrument of atonement for the sins of all men. *Justification is conferred in Baptism, the sacrament of faith.* It conforms us to the righteousness of God, who makes us inwardly just by the power of his mercy. Its purpose is the glory of God and of Christ, and the gift of eternal life: 1994 *Justification is the most excellent work of God's love made manifest in Christ Jesus and granted by the Holy Spirit.* It is the opinion of St. Augustine that "the justification of the wicked is a greater work than the creation of heaven and earth," because "heaven and earth will pass away but the salvation and justification of the elect . . . will not pass away." He holds also that the justification of sinners surpasses the creation of the angels in justice, in that it bears witness to a greater mercy.
