What an extremely interesting set. I purchased many Romal Szmal colours open stock - they all came individually wrapped with a hand coloured swatch on the wrapper which I find to be an indication of quality. Loved your review, and it made me feel very guilty for not playing with my own colours. I have said before that I feel I could open an art store, yet am an absolute beginner artist. Quite ridiculous and this is why I am in the process of making palettes of various brands and colours for you to try and hopefully enjoy. Many thanks for all the time you put into your videos 🎨🖌👩‍🎨👍🏻

Hello Elizabetta! So the memorable colours in Roman Szmal are all of the greys. The grey you medically need is called Misty Morning, A light to mid cool grey. It is my favourite in my collection of his paints. It separates into a bright cobalt kind of teal and pinky red, with the edges of the hard edge, having the pigment like a cloud with a silver lining. You could do a picture with just this one colour! If you make the colour float on a lot of water, you see the separation of the greys, particularly special on 100 % cotton. All of the greys need lots of water to see this effect. You should have room for 4 more colours in your large palette. There are some pale gemstone colours, which are also lovely and delicate. You can also bend the palette metal wings first, at an angle, then click your pan into the groove towards the metal wing first, then down, which will stop them moving. You can also use a glue stick on the mixing surface of the palette with a wetted tissue, to keep your palette clean, non staining, non beading, and non abrasive. This little trick works for all plastic, metal palettes, new or old. You can clean them with rubbing alcohol first if they are old :) In kindred spirit, Eliza Australia xx 26th of October 2022 11:57pm Have fun, paint more!

I like Roman Szmal paints. I love the perylene green deep, the ocean blue, and Przybysz's Grey. The only problem is that, if you live in a humid climate, they don't fully dry in the pan, and are always a bit sticky due to their binder.

Dear Alex, thanks a lot for your message and your suggestions! I think these paints are currently on sale on Jackson’s…so I might grab some extra pan during the weekend! Our climate here is not particularly humid, but to be honest I like paint that stays sticky! I like Sennelier for instance that never really completely dry out. I prefer that to some Winsor and Newton that, despite gorgeous quality and colour, dry as hard as a rock 😰 in a pan. Have a lovely weekend!

I would have preferred a true cerulean instead of that Blue Sky, and perhaps another green instead of the two different turquoises? I'm a fan of cobalt-based pigments now, after you did that wonderful series of them! I actually like lavender for skies and as a gently neutralizing pigment for greens. Honestly, having seen the other Roman Szmal sets, this seems to be the best set of all that they offer!

Hello ….. I must watch more swatching of Roman Szmal paints. I’m interested in the depth of mass in the cherry colour. It’s hard to find the “old fashioned” cherry hue. (Not the dark burgundy hue…I have that one.) I’m looking for the colour of a pinkish orange with an overtone of red. And very transparent. It’s a specific hue and I’m having a hard time finding it. Rom Szmal MAY be it. 💥 So far it looks the closest. 😊 I just have to see what the mass looks like. THANKYOU for swatching them out to us. It helps a lot! Blessings from Canada 💟✝️ . ps… In 1993 I went to Italy on my Honeymoon. We seen a lot of Countries in the Mediterranean area. Had the time of my life!! If I could… I would move to Italy or Portugal. @@WatercolorElisabetta you’re welcome! I haven’t compared the RS Jane Blundell set with the Jane Blundell DS set so I don’t know if there is much of a difference. I have a few tubes of DS watercolors and I know they are great quality, but I don’t know…. it would certainly be less expensive for me to buy DS watercolors than some of the others I have 😁! I know what you mean about the price of designer handbags. I used to be a handbag addict 😅. Fortunately for me I stopped buying designer handbags years ago, though I do wish I had purchased the classic Chanel handbag decades ago, before the price became astronomical! I wouldn’t buy one now I have an art and art supply hobby instead! I’ve been through a Copic marker phase, coloring book phase, coloring pencils phase, watercolor pencil phase, card making phase, and now I’m on my watercolor journey. I’m hoping I’ll stop at the watercolors!!! I don’t want to explore gouache, oil paints, acrylics and soft pastels. Did I miss anything out?! Though I do have some soft pastels but I rarely use them. @@WatercolorElisabetta yes, I am in the USA. Camlin is available on Amazon, but at a mark up. I travel to India to buy my art supplies when needed. I can get a set of 24 11ml tubes there for $4.00 usd. On Amazon they are around $11.00 usd - $20.00 usd. Which is still a fabulously inexpensive price for the highly extreme quality they are. I find them very comparable to daniel smith's original watercolor line. Meaning, not much granulation except in the expected granulating pigments; such as ultra marine, Mars black, etc. Colors we'd expect to granulate. Other than that they are easily controllable, extremely affordable and highly lightfast. Then there is the 100% cotton watercolor journals. Pennies on the dollar. Most are less than $4.00 usd. Thanks for posting this video. By the way, in Italian what is the difference between Ciao and Salve? I always thought ciao meant goodbye but it also means hello?
@WatercolorElisabetta
@WatercolorElisabetta 2 жыл бұрын
Ciao Morrison! Thanks a lot for your lovely message. 😊 You are completely right!! Ciao means both hello and Goodbye, but we only use it as an informal salutation with friends or to kids. The formal salutation would be Buongiorno or buonasera, depending on daytime. These two also are used both as hello and goodbye. Salve is more unusual. It is used when you don’t want to be too formal, but CIAO would be too informal. In Italian these nuances of respect are very important! For instance when I walk my dogs, we usually are informal among dog owners. But someone much younger than me might be hesitant in saying Ciao, fearing to be disrespectful; at the same time buongiorno would be too formal and almost rude!! So Salve is the perfect compromise!! I know it’s complicated so my explanation is maybe even more complicated! 😂 have a great weekend! Ciao! Elisabetta
