While Romania and Serbia have lots to offer, Albania reigns supreme You could only wake up in the breathtaking scenery of Swiss-like Albanian Alps in the north, have a relaxing breakfast, a quick mountain trekking, and only a few hours later, one will find himself/herself in the gorgeous Ionian Riviera beaches of the south And a bustling city life in Tirana, Durrës and Vlora in between, surrounded by numerous ancient archeological sites from Roman/Greek era Healthy mediterranean cuisine of sea and farm to table selections Friendly people and more

My wife is from Brasov and we go back 3-4 times a year. We have a family flat about a 10 minute walk from old town center/Black Church. We plan to move there full-time in 3 years (from California). We have already started buying real estate rentals so we have income for our retirement. Hint: the smaller towns have MUCH cheaper prices for dining out.

Thanks for this info. I'm still of the opinion that retiring to Europe is the way to go. My wife wants heat, I want access to a proper 25M lap pool. Both of us want fairly low cost of living. These countries are worth a look.
@AllenMacCannell2 ай бұрын
Serbia subsidizes an olympic pool in every small town for $3. By contrast, giant Sofia just has the crowded Spartak olympic pool near South Park and a private 25 meter fitness club with "palm trees" in Business Park, which isn't so crowded because it's 30 lev to get in (15 Euros). The problem with Sofia is it's so sprawling and crowded that you couldn't go for a swim at lunch on a business day without eating up too much time. I prefer to squeeze in 12 full laps before having a hot turkey sandwich at lunch hour and getting right back to work.

Definitely Albania has a better combination when it comes to life quality, location, cost and people friendliness. Romanian cities that you mentioned are so small and get boring so easily. Belgrade is nice but the Albanian seaside is unbeaten! Nevertheless Balkans is amazing everywhere you will go.

Geography Romania only has 2 counties from the Black Sea region 10% of its territory in the so called: Balkan Peninsula , the rest is in Eastern Europe, however you can say the culture is balkan if you see any similarities between them, it’s like going to Australia and seeing a lot of similarities between UK , and Australia and called them Australians ( not the native Australians) but the British how live there.
@do.ro992 ай бұрын
Wrong.that region ypu called Balkans is not geographically part of Balkan Mountains.those mountains are called Dobrogea mountains and are the oldest mountains in Europe or the remains corroded chain of what is left. So, no Balkans in Romania. Culturally all Romania can be included in Balkan are since there are many things in common.

I get so tired of Americans calling places "CHEAP" . It is not cheap for the locals. It's only cheap to you because you are coming with foreign exchange!! This is what causes gentrification and makes things so much more expensive for the locals. Nice video but please tone down on being so insensitive to the locals. It is NOT cheap for them.

It does not decide whether a country is a Balkan country. whether there is a Balkan mountain in that country, but whether the country is located on the Balkan peninsula. And the Balkan Peninsula begins in Odessa and ends in Trieste, Italy. Draw a line between these two cities and check whether Romania and Slovenia are in the Balkans or not.

As Serbian I give you honest review about my country. Big majority of Serbian cities are ugly, except Vojvodina towns. Communist architecture, unplanned and unfinished houses, bad infrastructure, garbage... Nature is dissent but nothing special with bad infrastructure. . Economy is bad, big majority of people working for 600 euros. Institutions are corrupt and chaotic, so human rights and freedoms are on very low level. The situation in Serbia is chaos and dictatorship, propaganda is everywhere. Because of that emigration in the West is very high, every year 50 000 people left the country. Serbia is very safe country, their is no dangers areaa. About mentality, people are most friendly but uneducate. It's third world country. You can buy anything in Serbia from college degree to land and people.
