Actually, he intended to have one of his daughters on the throne. Shortly before his abdication he was frantically trying to change the laws for his daughter Olga to be empress. But he was unable to complete it before he was dethroned.
@janefelix38213 жыл бұрын
Issue was a change like that would have been a direct attack on the Tsar's brother Michael. By 1915 the Tsarina, Alexandra was 43 years old and probably not able to produce any more children, it was 11 years since her last, Alexi. Given the extremely poor health of the Tsar's only son, his brother Michael knew that for all intensive purposes the crown would have gone to him or his sons as Alexi was never expected to make 20 or produce any heirs. So there would have been a major fight to change the laws as Duke Michael, would have fought it.
@joseeduardotschen91863 жыл бұрын
@@janefelix3821 reminds me of the succession crisis in Japan that they were trying to change the law but then the current Crown Prince had a son which is now 2nd in line to the throne.
@janefelix38213 жыл бұрын
@@joseeduardotschen9186 Difference it that the Tsar's power back then was absolute versus the Japanese Emperor which is mainly symbolic By allowing Olga to become ruler, it was essentially stripping Michael of becoming (or his son) absolute ruler. Of course this is moot as the Tsar, Tsarina, and their 5 children were murdered and around the same time Duke Michael along with the Tsarina's sister, Maria, were also murdered. Plus the country has not reinstated, even symbolically, any Royal line.

Every one of these restored and revived photographs, in the book, have undergone such beautifully detailed, artistic attention, to create modern-day masterpieces. The words alone in ‘The Romanov Royal Martyrs’ book, are enough to paint the pictures, detailing the Romanov family’s life and, ultimately, the massacre that was carried out at the hands of Lenin’s henchmen. I cannot reign enough praise on those who worked diligently on this publication of the Romanov’s lives, but I can say that if you’ve not purchased a copy of this book, you are completely missing out on key evidence and a look into what silence could not conceal.

Olga was an unbelievably beautiful young woman and if the succession rules had been different she would have made a wonderful Empress. My favourite story about Olga is the time before the War when she was out for a drive and spotted a poor girl who couldn't walk properly and Olga being the lady she was made enquiries, finding our that the girl's family couldn't afford the medical treatment so Olga paid for it using her own (vast) fortune and she did this without being told to do so, out of the goodness of that pure heart of hers. The Tsar and Empress must have been so proud of her. Rest in peace Olga and the Imperial family, you didn't deserve the end to your tragic lives xxx

I think it’s a mark of Nicholas respect for tradition that he didn’t but he could if he wanted. . Olga would never leave Russia to become a foreign queen as she could have done. She would have been a good regent, if something had happened to her father and I think she would have had the intelligence to be a worthy successor if it came to that. After all not only Catherine the great was her ancestor, but so too was Queen Victoria. I often wonder if her depression was related to the deteriorating political situation. She was very aware.

There were rumors circa 1913, the year they celebrated The Romanov's 300 year anniversary, that Olga was being considered a match for David, Prince of Wales and heir to the British throne, her second cousin. At the time she was 18 and he 19. He would later become King Edward VIII and known for abdicating to marry an American divorcee, Wallis Simpson. Knowing more about the future King, he never would have married her simply because he despised the whole Royal business and never married, until after his abdication, even though he was pressured to as he was heir to the largest Empire at the time, so he would not have married Olga, if anything to spite his father, King George V. But at the time was this a serious consideration?
