I’m a designer in Florida and here after a week on hold you can extend the hold another week but then you have to purchase it. They will not continue to hold it. The stone yard should have told you their policy on holds.

Businesses have stock they need to move and sell and if they’re independent and small business, they can’t hold stock indefinitely. Yes she certainly should have called, but having looked at countertops myself and done a kitchen reno, yes we put down a deposit so they would keep what we picked. It was piece of mind for me and a solidification for them that it was being purchased . She definitely should have called and communicated and given you the opportunity to purchase first, but it also had been a month. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But it looks like it worked out in the end for you!

Losing that dolomite countertop turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Although harder than marble, it can still stain, etch, show scratches, unlike quartz or granite, and the new color is MUCH better. You make an excellent point about trying to put pieces with more movement into place without strange joins. Love to see you relaxing happily into your new lifestyle. That’s so shady! We paid for quartz 2 months before we needed it at IKEA. What a mistake!!! When it was time to pick up, it was out of stock. We were told that we would have to wait 6 weeks for it to come in. Luckily, we were able to pivot, get a better countertop and have it installed within 3 days from another supplier. IKEA didn’t want to refund our $7,000 payment! They were horrible to work with and we’ll never go back.

The muslin cloths are great to throw over your shoulder when burping them after their feed as the soak up the spit up really well and saves your clothes lol! It’s crazy how many you need at the start and then all of a sudden you haven’t used them in months! It goes by so quick.

What a bummer. If it makes you feel better, I think it might be a cultural difference coming form Texas. Where I live, a hold is usually for a short period of time (24-48 hours? maybe up to 1 week?). After a couple weeks, it would be assumed that you are no longer interested if you haven't contacted the store to arrange payment or at least put down a deposit. I hope you find something that you love even more. I think you will. You always find a way to turn lemons into lemonade!

Typically here in the NW, I can’t speak about Southern States, but you put money down to hold. That insures you will not cancel on them. Not sure why you didn’t put at least 10% down. Then you’d have a leg to stand on. Unfortunately most businesses don’t regard a piece of paper as binding, however money down would.
