I have been a fully recovered anorexic for over 15 years... and its crazy when you talked about how it can be triggering when people say they haven't eaten all day. Because even to this day... when someone says that, there is the weird thing that triggers in my head... like, "that should have been me" or "wow, good job". I don't actually believe those things... but those thoughts are still on autopilot sometimes... and its weird. Again, I am fully recovered, but that doesn't mean that RANDOM thoughts don't trickle in here and there.
@ChloeSinclair-jt5kj Жыл бұрын
I totally get what you mean and same it triggers me and annoys me to when people say that because then I just compare myself to others
@katherinejacobson3954 Жыл бұрын
Yes! I agree with you. It's very triggering when people say this is my first meal of the day and it's dinnertime or I havent eaten all day.
@amy-rose7090 Жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely. Personally, I do compare, but the thing that gets to me the most is that I just feel really guilty, that I’ve been eating things and they haven’t had anything. Like they obviously deserve it and need it more than I do, and yet I had it. As if I had eaten in front of them while they were hungry. That kind of feeling. Yuck.
@meherenow10 ай бұрын
I no longer feel triggered by other peoples comments in fact I feel a lot of empathy for people when I hear those comments..I found the triggering and comparing became less of an issue after I did the work on self forgiveness for having an Ed..the post Ed psychological healing is a really important part of the process in advanced recovery

I'm in first year of uni and this was SO difficult for me-- I'm really lucky that the few friends I've made make an effort to eat regularly and are happy to go to the cafe and get a little snack or bring lunch to eat between classes. It makes me feel so much safer, because so many people are way too proud of surviving off caffeine and nicotine (something I reallyyyyy struggle with as well).

the things you said about people bragging about not eating breakfast are so true! before i even developed anorexia i didn't eat breakfast as i didn't like having to wake up earlier to make extra time for it, and my body got used to it. but i did eat lots in the evening as you said! also when i did start eating breakfast again which didn't happen until i started recovery, i felt so sick for some time as my body wasn't used to it, but now i can't go without breakfast! i have no energy without it. please ignore anyone who brags about not having eaten- they're only doing themselves harm and not fuelling their body when it needs it!

I don't have an ED but I feel most of us face bad body image and engage in some behaviors because of diet culture. I shared this before but some days my body image is so bad (I am a first time mom of a almost 2 year old). It just helps me to remind myself that I am not meant to look any specific way and that my body is going to change and that's fine. This month I just haven't been motivated to workout, but I walk regularly so I remind myself that when I journal. Do it for your mental health, not about weight.

It’s hard to fully articulate how much of a difference you have made to the lives of so many people. I stoped following a lot of recovery influencers because it was clear that they were only quasi recovering, while maintaining a very underweight body and never really willing to fully commit to recovering and healing. BUT you totally keep it real, genuinely went for full recovery and have always been honest about the struggles of recovery. You are amazing Ro and give hope to everyone struggling. Also love the fact that you explain how PTSD played a part in your disorder and how healing from an ED needs a wholistic approach of healing both mind and body. You have helped me to recover (3 years of recovery now!) and so many many others. Don’t stop doing what you do Ro. The world needs more people like you ❤❤❤

I've been in recovery now, for almost two years. One of the first 'recovery accounts' was yours, and your videos helped so much to get myself together and gather the courage to start this journey.. Now it's been I'd say 1,5 years now since one of your videos last popped up on my feed, and wow.. it feels so nostalgic, but in the good way. Because obviously, it reminds me of my struggles, but also of the safe space and support your videos ment to me at that time. So I just want to say: thank you, for helping me start recovery, even without ever meeting! And I'm so happy for you and the progress you've made since I first (and last) saw your videos!

I’m glad you mentioned the period part. Not everybody loses it and some people get it back way before they’re a healthy weight. I got my period back at a weight classified by medical professionals as extremely underweight. I got my period when I was at high risk of heart failure and while warned by my doctors that I would die soon if I did not recover. The fact that some people would consider me not anorexic or not sick enough just because I had my period is insane to me. Folks, you are valid whether you have a period or not.

Hi, Ro! Today I bought loop-switch as my twin sister's christmas gift, and I wanted to thank youu for introducing me to their brand! I've been wanting to get them for a really long time, ever since you first mentioned them, as last year I struggled with an ED/anxiety and felt they could really be a blessing for me. But I've been healing myself and I am now proud to be like 95% recovered... I'd still love to buy some for myself, but ever since I started enjoying life again I've been noticing how stressed and anxious my sister has been getting. Last year I'd be too caught up in my own thing to even be aware, you know? But now that I'm more present and have re-learned how to dedicate time to me and my loved ones, I thought I'd do something for her for once, to show her how much I love her and appreciate her help in the past months. I want to be that kind of help for her, too. Thinking of you gave me the perfect idea for this gift, which I hope she'll love and find as useful as you pointed out to be. So, again, thank you so soo much! I hope you have the most wonderful day/week/month... sending love ❤

I hate bulimia recovery so much. For me personally I've dealt with both anorexia and bulimia, I am currently trying to recover (failing miserably) and it's so hard to eat, when I do eat I binge. In what I've researched, with bulimia, your synapses (neuro connections) will over time associate having a full stomach with wanting to purge or be sick and exercise. What I am beginning to learn almost 7 years into my bulimia is not to restrict as such but eat small portions (lower in fat, carbs and sugar like salads and tofu to prevent bingeing) frequently so my stomach isn't too full that I feel the need to purge. Of course all eating disorders are terrible but in my personal option having experienced both, bulimia for me has been so much harder to recover from because again, facing refeeding, a lot of the traditional methods of recovery like higher intake meal plans are harder to apply. I once found from a source that bulimia can shorten a life span by 60 years, for anyone struggling with bulimia (or any ED for that matter) you do deserve to live, of course life is really shit but in hindsight we only live once, might as well take advantage of the small things like crunchy leaves and old book smell. Don't let some bullshit disease control your life, you may not want to recover now but the earlier you are into your ED the easier recovery is. You DO NOT, and I stress this so much, you do not want to get 5-10 years into this illness and struggle so much to the point where like me your bones shrivel, stomach is partially dying and you got no hair. It ain't pretty! I also know a big part of the illness (not wanting to recover) will prevent you from wanting to get help, which I get - and is why I am begging you, while you are suffering from this deranged illness to at least take baby steps if you do not want 'full recovery' because over time you WILL have major regrets. (Soz babes but it's just the truth.) I honestly praise anyone who is in recovery and is fighting so hard to beat this really shitty disorder because from experience it is so hard.
