I rode on this little railway when I was ten. I'm now 70. The same loco's run the line today, and they were quite old back in 1960! Remarkable.

I just found out there is nothing wrong in being 70 even if I would rather be 30 again. ..... I have similar steam adventure memories too. God bless you.

It pains my heart that I live almost on the other side of the globe and can't realistically travel that far to experience this fine little railway and those beautiful engines.

I'm not surprised. It has a very unique charm. I love going there when I get a chance, but being the other side of the South Coast, unfortunately that's few and far between.

I'd say this is the best scale for steam locomotives as a hobby. All of them are so impressive, and its the same excitement from this scale as the full scale. Just superb engineering.

What memories, we stayed at the Jolly Fisherman in Greatstones in 1949 and 1950 and I discovered this Railway, it must have cost my dad a fortune in fares for me. Last rode the line in 1975.

George. The Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway was the brainchild of 2 Millionaire 1920's racing car drivers. The line was built and opened in stages between 1924-28. The locomotives Nos 1-3 and 5-8 were built by Davey Paxman of Colchester England in the 1920's. Nos 9 and 10 were built by The Yorkshire Engine Company in 1931. More recent additions to the fleet include a German built (Krupp) Pacific 4-6-2 steam locomotive of around 1934, and more recently two diesel locomotives built for the RH&DR to cope with a contract for a daily schools train. This had to also operate in winter months when heat and light was also required, hence the diesels. The line is 13.5 miles long, and runs along the Kent Coast in South East England. It now primarily functions as a tourist attraction, but has a long and complex history, including some intriguing armoured trains during World War 2.

No made by model engineers , they take a lot of money, time , care and love to make
@paulsmith66166 жыл бұрын
Sorry for being so late, only came across this today. Oliver they are replicas of the Thompson Class A 2 locomotives. I am not an L N E R fan, but the A 2 is intriguing and the longer you look\interact, the more pleasing to the eye she/it becomes. By the way, Hercules looks suspiciously like a Stanier 'what if?' Um, am I wrong?
@TheSouthernerYTChannel6 жыл бұрын
I believe the original order for the first pairing of RHDR locos ("Green Goddess" and "Northern Chief") had them derived from the GNR A1's, when the order was made in 1924 - very much before Thompson's time. The 'Mountain' 4-8-2 were an adaption of the Pacific concept, to be more focused on freight traffic.

@glenmears37747 жыл бұрын
There technically isn't one
@TheSouthernerYTChannel7 жыл бұрын
Strictly speaking, it doesn't have one. Though some sections are limited to 15mph.

is corect some sections the speed is low,,but others run fast,i dont know the speed, but 25mph seems reasonable in the fast tracks.
@markturner42196 жыл бұрын
The speed limit is 25 miles per hour which equates approximately to a scale 75 mph.
