S. Janaki amma refused the padma award, recognition came very late. These awards, national or regional, are given for preferred people of various interests. Her grand mother was denied reputed stages in Madras to perform because she sang in tamil also which did not go well with the orthodoxy. She renders Bharathiar songs, Delhi may not like it.
