It's been raised and is now the 11foot8+8 bridge. 12'4" is still enough to scrape the top of typical box trucks; but not to can-opener them. Bigger trucks could still be destroyed; but semi drivers who know what they're doing will have a GPS that knows not to send them under low bridges. Which means we'll probably see a SWIFT trailer get destroyed there at some point...

Those of us with large RVs are aware of dips at the end of a drive. I have never gotten stuck but have dragged a hitch once or twice. In the old days, they use to hook a tow truck onto the back, lift, and pull forward to un-stick them. I've seen it done a few times but you have to have room to move forward. The ability to side-pull is a game changer.

They need to give a mini-course in "Manuvering a straight truck" when they rent one to a newbie. One rule is "GO SLOW" - especially if it looks like you're running out of ground (or any) clearance. Another is "Bring a spotter" - and use him/her whenever it looks like anything is sketchy. Last rule is "If all else fails, Call Ron at Midwest Trucks", he'll get you out of a jam with a smile. Nicely done, and extra points for the handy moveable fairlead. Have a good one!

This happens all the time at one of our offices. The driveway goes up a hill at an an angle and we inform anyone making deliveries that they need to approach and enter the driveway southbound or they will get stuck. Inevitably, someone tries to enter northbound and in making the tighter than 90 degree turn into the driveway, their DOT bumper or lift gate always hits the pavement and will put them into the exact same stuck situation as happened here. Lots of gouges in the roadway from previous incidents, but nobody seems to notice and take heed of our instructions....

I love the fact that I got to see you use the homemade side puller. I remember commenting that you should build one some time last year or so. That was one of the best things I welded up using stuff from Harbor Freight and it made the job so much easier, especially when you work on major highways and expressways and you don't have to shut down a lane to do a recovery. Stay safe Ron.

Oh, gracious. I remember my father doing that with a U-Haul truck in Raleigh about 30 years ago. My grandmother's driveway was just about like that, except a little steeper and it was a busy four-lane road. When the bumper started to scrape, he made the mistake of gunning the engine a bit, and one of the wheels ended up about a foot off the ground.

I noticed that. I think, but don't know for sure, that you have to have a CDL (or other special license, depending on what state) to drive a truck with air brakes. That makes me think it's not just two guys renting a truck to move, but that's what they looked like. Maybe you can drive a rental truck under 26,000 in Missouri with air brakes with no CDL.

I worked at a loading dock and when I got a job where we basically free unloaded out in front of the building I spent a lot of time getting people angled up properly. We had hill in front of the place and plenty of narrow turns, many times we just parked them in the street and made the cars go around, When I didn't catch the drivers in time though they'd use the GPS and you could follow the trail of destruction, tree limbs, basketball hoops, mailboxes. Country living!

I really like that side pull attachment. A lot better than a simple redirect off the deck. Perhaps Miller should look into adding that as an option. A suggestion for a design mod - make the top of the frame with the top roller a gate. That would eliminate removing the roller and feeding the end of the cable through, just open the gate, drop in the cable anywhere along its length and close the gate.

Pricing is usually from, "Oh that's not bad" to " Oh my God, I'll need to rob a bank". Seriously, many times the pricing depends on the vehicle being towed, how far away it is and what needs to be done to recover it. A simple quick pull in my area runs about $100.00 with no more than a 20 mile round trip. However if you need a big wrecker the price goes way up quick. One place I know get's $500.00 just to start the engine and move the wrecker. Then it's so much a mile and charges for each piece of equipment like straps/chains/bags used.

Good job on your side job winch fairlead. Glad you used the snatch block to not put to much on the side roller of the fairlead. I had a coworker who tried to pull a F350 dually out putting the winch cable about 50 to 60 degrees on the right side roller causing the metal the roller is pinned through to being bent causing the retainer clip to break. The side rollers are really not designed to carry a bunch of weight .

Love your side-puller and nice to have an occasional easy job. I do not think I would have gone under the rental to unhook the chain with the driver still in the cab. A local mechanic was killed at a repair shop when the truck owner drove out of the shop with the mechanic still under the vehicle. The ignition keys should have been in the mechanic's pocket.

If you notice, he told the driver to set the brakes which he could confirm with air brakes just by listening. He also put as little of himself under the truck as possible and was in a position to scoot out of there if anything went hinkey.

@@rayives7758 and with one push of a button the brakes are no longer set. In my book that is just an unnecessary risk. Towing is already dangerous enough. Don't make it more dangerous just to save a minute.

There is a new subdivision in my town. Driveways are longer and steeper the your job. Fire chief said the fire trucks will hang the rear bumper on road going up to a fire call.

Love the videos Ron. Slow down Ron give yourself more thinking time, more haste less speed. I noticed you didn't chock wheels or check brakes before you went under truck. be safe my friend
