Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, we get another opportunity to test out our new 2024 Western Star 49X with a Miller Industries, Century 9055XL. The 9055XL is a 50 ton integrated (non-rotating) 3-stage boom. The XL is for Extra Long reach and has the same capacity as the standard 50T 3-stage. A customer calls us to perform a winch out of a truck and trailer with a piece of farm equipment that is stuck in the field after heavy rains. When they said farm equipment on a trailer, we thought perhaps a header or attachment of some kind. We were NOT expecting a miniature combine!!! It's the smallest combine I have ever seen, short of a toy. Anyway, Ethan takes out his/our new truck #18 along with one of our part-time employees to help this customer who is just slip sliding away in the slimy field. It's a far reach off the solid road. Can he get to it without putting his/our new truck in danger? Watch and see. So far, I am loving this truck and what it can do!!! Thank you, God, for blessing our family and our business. Watch as we continue to receive God's blessings. There is much more to come!!! I hope you enjoy this video!!!
We have a difficult and dangerous job and we take it very seriously, that doesn't mean we can't have fun and enjoy our work. We strive to be polite, professional, efficient, and safe...and still can have fun. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

I've been watching since Ethan was 15 or 16 years old and i remember at that time he didn't seem too motivated to do the job, nor did he seem to have a sense of urgency. (Like most kids that age). I can say it seems that he has grown into a fine young man, taking the job seriously and being a great team leader. You must be darn proud parent Ron and Mrs. Pratt!!! Keep up the great work Ethan and congrats again on the shine new rig!!!

I am remembering a video where Ron took Ethan on a recovery, a semi that dropped the trailer axles into a deep ditch trying to make too sharp of a turn. It might be the same one where Ron had to back the rotator about two miles down a narrow roadway to get to this truck. Anyway, Ethan grabbed a shovel, then some cribbing to help ramp the trailer out. I remember the customer remarking about his son being about that same age, but not showing that ambition to tackle a problem. I know that is not a detailed description of the video, but if anyone thinks they know which one I am talking about, it was really a good example of showing what Ethan would become.

Alex at first thought Ron was talking. His 16th birthday was Wednesday. I took him to Gene's Towing for the day, where he got the chance to go to, and participate in a couple real recoveries throughout the day. This took some doing with the owners of the company and child welfare and other state agencies involved in Alex's care to accomplish. It is amazing what he has learned just by watching videos. Having a severe learning disability he does quite well despite what people say and think of what they can do. He doesn't like new people that well, because of the abuse he went through but he did well and seemed to focus more on the recovery more. Some of the people we were working with wasn't expecting a very small person doing what he was doing. Alex is now slightly over 36 inches tall and 26 pounds.

If you paint first... the paint will stay. Once you grease the line, it's nearly impossible to get paint to stick. There's a sailor's trick to weave in a piece of small line, but might not fit in the pulley wheels. We weave a length of line along the side of a mooring line that is slack until you are at the load rating of the line. If the little line is tight, the heavy line is in danger of breaking.

Around 15 minutes, have you noticed how incredibly much turn radius you lose when you lock all 3 diffs? You get better drive traction, of course, but those "solid" axles try and mostly succeed in making the truck go straight is spite of the steer axle. What I did in tight situations like that was leave the diffs open just until I finish the turn then lock them up. If it gets slick the moment the drive axles get off the gravel, that won't work very well the driver at the wheel is the only person in the whole world who can and must make that call. There's a reason trucks don't have back seats........no room for back seat drivers.

Ethan you did a good job, but like your dad wasn't a fan of the way you had the sling run. It probably would have been better to run them as a basket each with a shake & pulled that way. However, you got the job done & no injuries or damage to the customer vehicle or yours, so it's a win bud. Just be careful you all & God bless.

Probably would have been better to run one strap to each hook to form a long V instead of crossing one strap through them both. From a geometry standpoint, the short V used here wastes power pulling the hooks towards each other, which also risks damaging them or the sockets they fit into.
@Ottos_ScLm_Race_videos_2009_on
@Ottos_ScLm_Race_videos_2009_on 21 күн бұрын
Yep, that is what I was thinking having watch Ron over the years doing this. 1 strap per hook, use a shackle to make 1 hook point then a shackle per hook up onto the next strap. Then once it started to roll take the strap off the right hook so it pulls right. Just like you do on a rollback.

That's not what I was nitpicking about - my concern was using cow hitches to tie the slings together, instead of a shackle or a chain. Then again, I have zero qualifications in the field of T&R, so I don't really have much room to talk. --- Edit: Ah. I see what you mean by "crossing the strap". I didn't clock that they triangled it through the hooks, rather than putting one of each end through.

My thought as well. Slings should have been joined with shackles which would make undoing easier. In the end it worked. You will learn more from your mistakes than if it all goes well. In this case it worked but I am sure Ron would do a debrief to teach another method for heavily stuck equipment. More than one way to reach 10!

The way you guys maneuver these trucks out on these tiny farm roads is impressive. I’m sure towing and backing up your camper with your pickup is a breeze. *Ethan, well done... great job done. Sean/Shawn works really well as a team member... that he was figuring out what was needed without being told. 🙂 But dang at the beginning, I truly thought it was Ron speaking... until Ron put up the written words. 🙂A great proud Dad & Mum moment was had I reckon 🙂.*

Ron, I'm gonna make a suggestion to find out.If you can do it is to take a nap.They can make a storm or signal from the control box. Or the remote cause I've got 2 to 200. Yards of cable you should 200 yd of cable, you should be.The control box should be able to reach at least 300 yd away from the truck.Alright, this is Bob from Vero Beach Florida.God bless you say safe

Puzzling over why the remote doesn’t have the range to reach the in tow vehicle but I realized the power lines might be cutting down on the range. Wondering whether there’s a provision for an external antenna? When I saw Ethan’s reflection in the chrome. It reminded me of what was written on the back of chrome refrigerated trailers; Reflecting quality. Nice reflection on the whole organization! Be safe everyone.

Ron you should be very Proud of Ethan. Ethan you should be very Proud of yourself, knowing when to seek advice/help from someone with greater knowledge and all that your Father has taught you, especially your Family Christian Values to Pass along to the Unknowing. Great Job Father & Son, May God continue to Bless and Protect you's and your Crew.

Great job! Love seeing him put in work with the new truck. Only thing I have to say, I drove a Star 4900SF hauling coal and learned not to lock the axles in if you absolutely had to turn because coal mine muck is kinda like there, very slick and you'd just go straight cause it hinders your turning so bad, maybe didn't matter here but just a thought. I never found a hole with that star I could get out of even after I was stuck once I fully locked it in

I'm guessing Ron would have used 2 small clevis between the truck's tow points and the first sling with maybe a D ring to center it.

Nice job Ethan and Ron it's a learning job, I agree on your comment about the rigging on the truck and expanding the endless ropes, but it's a learning process. He got him out save without damage.
