Mike is Moving On Up... Got his Class A CDL permit, so now it's time to train him on the larger towing units. Mike is already good at towing and recovery and has an excellent gift for this, so moving on up shouldn't be difficult for him. Today we start with a simple school bus tow using our 2015 Peterbilt 337 with a Miller Industries Century 4024, 20 ton towing & recovery unit #10. Watch to see how he does. Please SLOW DOWN & MOVE OVER!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

I've always liked Mike. He's a friendly man and a very hard worker. I'd have stage fright doing something new in front of a camera. I hope it doesn't"t make him nervous. You are a patient, encouraging teacher. I knew you would be. You're a smart, kind man. Mike couldn't have a better teacher. God bless all of you.

Grinding gears as you are learning a transmission is a right a of passage. when you have a trainer like you Ron it takes all of the added stress and lessens it because you let them do it and only correct when you have to. Job well done Mike.

You're obviously not a "super trucker" born with diesel in the veins and a shifter in the right hand! Well, I'm not either. I grew up around big trucks and I've been an owner operator for over 20 years. I still scrape a gear in my 13 speed now and then. When my trainees do it, I joke with them saying that it's ok since they're going to start making gears from rubber next year. Oh, I also can't hit every dock ever built in one shot yet lol!

nah that'd be a 3 on the tree.. A LOT of Japanese cars are manual transmissions and so are a lot of the European tuner cars like the 2.0T Audi/VW and Mini S/BMW etc. They know how to drive a stick but on the column throws them for a loop.. best anti-theft device now is an old school starter button.. they'd break the key before figuring out how that works.

Having taught for 50 years you are an excellent instructor. The old thing is tell me, show me, And then the one that always works let me do it myself with your back up. You did this extremely well. I was surprised to hear about double clutching. The first fire trucks I drove required it but haven’t done it in years. Not even on my 51 Dodge pick up truck restored.

I had an Old Timer boss many years ago, and when you were learning something for the first time from him, he would always say the same thing, 'there's the right way to do things, and there's a wrong way of doing things, but, as long as you do it the way I want it done, you'll never go wrong', he really was a great Old Timer to work for, he always appreciated it if we put the effort in, in whatever we were doing, and when we were all forced to leave when the place shut down, it was a real sad day for everyone

He is really doing a great job. I love the door closing method of exiting at the back of the bus. That keeps the driver from missing a child in the back of the bus. Don't laugh at me for that one, my wife was a school bus driver for 30 years. On more than one occasion a child was still on the bus. She drove the 53 footer. The high school kids were known to hide on the bus.

WOW, times must be really changing, cause when I was in school, there was only one stop sign on the buses, and there was also no such thing as stem teaching. I think if you don't have kids going to school, your going to be very confused like me, cause your not in the know of how things are done anymore with schools. I was very happy with Mike's skills and attention to detail on his first heavy tow, I thought he did great. Thank you to you as well Ron, for being such a great teacher!

Hello from Johnson Towing and Recovery, Union City, Indiana. I love your patience and attention to detail during training. Two things I do differently, is with the kneeling busses or with the Cabover busses in general, is to chain the drive just to get the nose clearance to pull in and out of lots. The other thing, and it's not every time, but on older ones from the salt belt, often I will turn my forks 90° in the receivers and go for the frame. If you suck it towards you until you're against something solid, then chain to prevent the forks from sliding along the frame. This is, of course, when forking the crossbar isn't an option due to corrosion or some other eliminating circumstance.
