This is the Tips and Tricks guide for the Grappler in DnF Duel! In this guide I will cover many aspects of the character and teach you what he is all about! In the end compared to some other characters, he's somewhat simplistic because well... he's a grappler lol. That said he's still got some stuff so we will talk about it, and if you need a combo guide check at the end of this video where it is linked!

As promised, here is your Tips and Tricks guide for the Grappler in DnF Duel! As always you can find timestamps to whatever is interesting to you so feel free to skip ahead(although leave a like if ya do!). Here's what I will say now, Grappler is my favourite character in this game, and by quite a bit. However, grappler also kinda sucks lol. This is the price of grappling, across all fighting games grapplers tend to just be lower tier characters and you gotta be ok with that. Yeah you will wind up blocking a lot more than other characters but when you get that hit to me nothing is more satisfying in this game with how vicious everything he does looks. Grappling is a lifetyle in the end I suppose, anyways enjoy the video!

I just want hugs! Armored grab! Lord Broly be Praised. Everything he has has a weakness, but he has a counter for every weakness. If he's armoring a lot you go low, but that's when stomps and wheel kicks start raining down. You want to anti-air that, but then the armor moves come back. He's a freaking deadly game of rock paper scissors up close. And he lands basically anything you're in the blender. So yeah he gets 1 turn for every 3-5 or more that the opponent gets. But once it's his turn it might never be their turn again. With how many plus frames he has, he can make the opponent play just as patient. Because if they don't they're just dead.

Whats next? Not quite sure actually. Lots of footage from the japan expo in paris of SF6 and some new goodies learned there, might compile that together and go over some new info we learned, and SF6 also coming to san diego comic con soon too! Multiversus open beta begins soon and I will be part of the early access period. If you watch my stream for 1 uninterrupted hour I have been told then you are GUARANTEED a twitch drop for multiversus early access and can get in up to a week early, so that sounds cool. Besides that, more fighting game stuff! I like fighting games :)

The hierarchy of DNF DP'S: 1. The ones that are hard/dangerous to punish (Awakened Hitman, Awakened Troubleshooter, Striker) 2. The average, fairly functional DP's (most of the cast) 3. The weak standard reversals (Vanguard's easy to low profile DP, Crusader's armored DP that loses to throws, etc.) 4. The counters (RIP Grappler and Lost Warrior I guess) 5. Ghost Blade (has no real DP, has to rely on mediocre mashing buttons and his admittely nutty guard cancel)

Lows hurt the Grabbler too much. All super armor is bypassed by lows and his DP is vulnerable to them as well. Wish he had some sort of "leg lock" move or something to punish a baited low. Otherwise they should just let Super armor beat lows. He'd still be low tier.

I absolutely agree, his buttons are ass, getting in against most of the cast is hell, his counter is dirt. And the fact that armor is broke by lows is fucking terrible, even in situations where u get a good armor read in a gap, amd u decide you want to punish and they end up doing a low(which happens waaaaaay too often) you're now about to eat some big damage

Yeah I don’t understand why he doesn’t have a low counter when like every character can get big combos going starting with lows. Leaves a lot of situations hopeless almost against a lot of the characters.

Yeah, grappler being particularly weak to lows seems reasonable until you realize it even his counter is weak to lows and his neutral game consists mostly of run up block button. You have to be SO patient as grappler. Meanwhile, everybody else has low risk shit they can chuck out at you to cover their approach or far reaching normals. Charged 2S is his best tool in neutral once you're close enough, especially in his vortex, when people try to jump out of your pressure.

Thank you sir for this tip and tricks video. My lord, Grappler maybe low tier when out of range but when he's in your face, whoa buddy!!! HE TAKES YOU THERE. This character is incredibly satisfying to play, even with such a limited repertoire. There are no wasted skills here, he's amazingly effective. In other fighting games I would learn the grappling characters to perform their eye catch (TK King, VF Wolf, SF Alex) but Grappler is much more brass tacks (although he'd be flashy in another fighting game he is quite understated in DNF). Hadn't occurred to me to use his forward moving launcher as a get out of dodge card but it's very handy and leads to a lot of possible combos. His weakness to low is quite silly especially when looking at the animation of an outstretched leg beating a full on shoulder tackle but then again if his armored worked on lows then he would be able to tank through EVERYTHING. Grappler maybe low tier now but we'll have to see how things pan out once a patch or two has been applied.

Nice video!! I'm no pro by any means, but for me, I find doing the quick frankensteiner out of neutral and then doing a conversion near the peak of the jump is a great way to move in with a quick overhead/air throw/crossup or counter low attacks cuz it's so quick. If you time it right, you can also snuff out pokes with it, but if you whiff, just convert and continue the pressure

One nice thing about his armored moves is that any move done on him will give white health for big conversion combos if you get a combo starting after.

sadly though you do not always get the chance for best damage due to how long the combos are, which will heal the little grey health he gets through armour. Unless you make a hard read on magic move which deals a lot grey health or have been holding block for a while and get maybe get a counterhit but is not always available to you. For example the best route for conversion would be to cancel a launching move into your charged air grab (which you can follow up with charged magnum assault). But by the time you get to the move, if you had little grey health, it would heal back up 8 times out of 10. In my humble opinion, as he said its way better to make your moves safer as taking your turn back is what you are doing 90% of the time. If you get a nice counterhit or charged grab with conversion on deck, go ham but rarely will you get the chance to do so. Any other use to extend combo really scales down the damage so unless you going for kill with your ult for the extra 200 guaranteed damage (optimizing combo depending on their health), would not recommend. Sometimes its better to just let it heal back even.

Ok parry is pretty week as wake up reversal, although the fact that your settled for dumb easy safe jump setup after makes it pretty useful IMO. You're cover low with block, they will constantly focused on low anyway, if they're too close nothing will win with cmd grab, and with conversion you can easily react to most tricky overhead attempts. Honestly it's really good for control opponent pressure.

Funny fact about charged special grab and jump magic grab - it's actually not grab per se, but unblockable. One might ask 'what's the different'. To grab someone in fighting game (at least as many you can treat it as general rule) you have to be face to face with your potential victim to interact with something called collisions box. But dash grab and jump grab can actually interact with any hurt box, ergo... I'll leave you with this one for a little

Yeah if you don't have a dp grappler is super scary because everytime you'll have to guess between j.[S] and j.[MS]. Well you don't have to guess often since you die in 2 combos but still.

Very informative. My only other real experience with a grappler is Alex is SFIII/V. Grappler here has some similarities, but he's also very different from what I would have expected. For this game, I'll probably need to be more proactive and not rely so much on hard reads like I enjoy doing.

Dude, I want to keep playing this but I cannot get over the amount of missed inputs I get online playing on ps5. 165ish matches and it’s a constant issue and I have done everything in my power to reduce input delay / lag. Awesome video !

He is the most stressfull character for me to fight against. You cant have him do anything or he will grabble you and rob you. It mostly takes only 2 little mistakes on your side for the grabby boi to win.

@@malwd6321 I was annoyed with ghost blade for a while too because I'm used to traditional 2d fighting game blocking (holding back), but once I started using the dedicated block button, ghost blade become a significant easier matchup. Funny enough, this also makes the grappler match up easier too since his stomp and jump heavy kick can hit other side sometimes which sucks lol

This is an important note, but the 5S on wakeup or not loses to timed DPs. The grab hitbox comes out on proximity and people can use the s of the DP to cause a whiff. So just be aware of that

For grapplers awakening, they should add the grey chip health that was negated as white health that can be used to convert but cant be recovered. Unless they specifically wanted to nerf his potential to convert while in awakening...

A couple of things that I didn't see in the video. Maybe u know about them and excluded them bit figured I'd throw it in here. 1. Instead of ending a combo in light frankensteiner after charged stomp u can do standing m into far charged stomp again. It will cross up and hit the opponent right after they recover in the air. Its a mini mix up. As if space right u can land front side with normal charged stomp. And worse case scenario they block and ur plus. 2. Seems pretty obvious but u can end combos in shoulder charge. Most times u don't want to do this but if ur close to the corner but not quite there u can push them into it with light shoulder and ur still plus after they tech with u right in their face letting u apply pressure. 3. Similar in concept to the just frame launcher tech after a standing m. In most combos that start with a light, after u do standard launch kick u can't get much after it. Except jLMHS. But u can actually do a just frame Frankesteiner after the launch kick for combo extension and more damage. I actually find the timing easier them the infinite as what makes the infinite hard is that the stomp will eat ur input if u press 4h to early and it doesn't after the launch kick. Not sure if this made sense lol

@@Skhona-Mathebula actually no. I'm pretty sure the developers didn't have it in mind when creating the trials. I will say it does help to get that trial more consistently though. After the charged throw u have to get the charged stomp at the right time though. Too early and ull wiff. Too late and u won't have the height needed to connect with fully the fully charged kick after the stomp. Which is where the just frame can be useful for this combo. But again not necessary. U have to basically start the charged kick as soon as the grappler stomp is finished. To early here and the game will eat ur input and ull just end up crouching. Too late and wiff. Hope this helps.

honestly if I land a hit right up on just about anything other than green uncharged stomp, ill get my health back rather than convert. Conversion combos for the most part actually do not give him that much more damage. He's basically a 2 hit kill character anyways so landing an extra 40 damage isn't really gonna change things one way or another

On the topic of the reversal relying on knowledge of the opponent. I think maybe the Devs created the character like that on purpose. Like the grappler is honed. He understands his opponent totally. That's why he has such a specific reversal. Because it's supposed to be used in the hands of a master. Wu Wei baby.

As a main grappler in dnf, I must say it's very very satisfying win with grappler in this game full of huge range normals and gimmicks. And every time I land the chargeable armored grab, it's like a orsgam. Yeah! Don't judge me! 😂🤼
