What will the Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves Roster look like?

So City of the Wolves comes out early next year but we actually don't know too much about it just yet! I am sure that will change up a bit come Evo Japan but for now we are in the dark, especially on the roster so I thought it would be fun to talk about exactly that! There's actually quite a few more "confirmed" characters out there than I think most people realize, and there's quite a few likely to show people so lets talk about it! I hope Ryo is in as Mr Karate, he could incorporate some of Robert's kick moves into his moveset to distinguish himself from Marco if needed. Though realistically speaking, he is DLC candidates at best. Also, I remember one the devs saying that Shun'ei and Meitenkun can technically be counted as a Fatal Fury's characters since they are Tung's disciples. Would be a pleasant surprise to see them popping up in CotW.

Visually, Kevin was always a less cool Ralf/Clark. But I liked his moveset. And his explosion effects looked great. Ralf's explosions looked piddly by comparison. If they gave Kevin the Argentina Backbreaker I'd accept him as the game's "Ikari Warriors" stand-in character.

@@sirlordcapybara801 I have a theory that both Krauser and Geese's appearances in RB2 are Nightmares, just like Nightmare Geese appearance in RBS Yeah, I know it sound crazy, RB2 is kind of a Dream Match game, but the fact that SNK designed 2 new characters for the game (3 if you count Alfred) kind of elevates that game into canonical status, specially with Xiangfei's inclusion in KoF '99

I’d probably expect some analogs to KoF characters. Mark of the Wolves had some, so this might too. I kind of wonder if we see any Buriki One or Savage Reign. Like it’d be fun to see characters like Jyazu and a young Chung Paifu make it in, since the Savage Reign games are meant to take place in South Town quite a bit after the Fatal Fury series; could put in someone that’s meant to be Sho Hayate’s dad or something. If no Buriki One characters show up here, they gotta at least show up in the new Art of Fighting game they’re doing.

I want to see one of the Jin twins. In one of the endings, Kim took them in. I'd like to see Chonrei implementing TaeKwonDo in with his usual teleporting DBZ style nonsense. And I'd like to see Yuri. We haven't seen her any older than a teenager yet. I want to see what they can come up with in an adult Yuri. I'm pretty sure she'd be somewhere in her 40's at that point in the timeline, but that makes it more interesting to me.

mai's pretty much confirmed as her voice is in the teaser trailer/blue mary appears in the 15th anniversary short that takes place after motw it'll likely be similar to that.(think a chronicles mode recapping the series history could be fit for having geese/krauser who killed himself after being defeated in fatal fury 2 with how both are dead in the fatal fury timeline.)

Hokutomaru and Kevin were in that South Town overview teaser trailer as voices (Hokutomaru is the one talking about Shiranui secret techniques before Mai, Kevin's saying his BINGO before Billy does his FIYAH), so they're coming back. Safe to say everyone from MOTW is coming back. Personally I want FF3/RB1 Franco back, didn't like the goofy beefcake version of him in RBS/2. Or even better, get Junior on the scene and following up his dad in kickboxing. Also should add, Mary and Yamazaki are likely classic characters returning, as Mary's been seen in the MOTW era with a new design, and Yamazaki busts dojos, and Marco's dojo got busted...

I beg to differ... If you are talking about the voices teaser, that would not be Andy, but rather Hokutomaru. Why? Because Andy NEVER had any super moves where he shouts: "Shiranui-ryu Ninpou...". It's Hokutomaru who says it in MOTW and, of course, Mai says in all of the games she is in. So yeah, I'd say that was Hokutomaru's voice and not Andy's, even though I feel Andy should also appear as playable sometime down the road... Hopefully with a fresher take and new moves.

You hear one of Kevin's voice clips in that voice clip trailer so he's soft confirmed anyway. Specifically the "Bingo! Fire!" line is what he says when he does one of his supers. It's a different voice actor but almost certainly him unless they replaced him with Marky or something.

I actually think 20-ish is a bit conservative for roster size. SamSho '19 shipped with 16 characters with only one being reused, we'll definitely be seeing a lot more reuse this time (and SNK presumably has a fair amount more money to pump into this one)

I think we have to take into consideration other modern fighting games initital rosters (without including DLC characters): - Guilty Gear Strive = 15 - Street Fighter 6 = 18 - The King of Fighters XV = 39 - Mortal Kombat 1 = 22 - Tekken 8 = 33 If all of the orginal Mark of the Wolves characters are going to be included in the base roster that would amount to 14 characters, the original Garou 2 for Neo-Geo would have included 6 new characters, if Preecha's inclusion means that SNK would add those proposed characters then it would mean the base roster could amount to 20 characters, and I can imagine SNK recycling some characters that already appeared in KOF XV like Andy, Joe, Mai, Yamazaki, Blue Mary and Billy, but I'd love to see some returning characters from older Fatal Fury games that haven't appeared in KOF like Bob Wilson, Rick Strowd and Alfred

3:24 SNK only really re-uses assets when it comes to KOF as that's how it's able to keep their launch rosters, even back then Fatal Fury or other SNK fighters didn't re-use KOF sprites even when KOF did borrow from other franchises (notably in KOF2000). And it's why Samurai Shodown 2019 didn't re-use Nako's animations/model from XIV. I wouldn't expect that for COTW and from what we've seen nothing suggests that they're doing that.

rooflemonger, i've watched your video regarding what characters are going to be in the game, some of your points are valid but i want this to focus on fatal fury and garou. that means no guests. some obscure fighters from wild ambition, real bout special and mark of the wolves deserve a second chance. some popular names should sit out this instalment.

I'm extremely excited about this game. When I was a kid Street fighter stood alone at first. When fatal fury and Art of Fighting hit the arcades the competition kicked of the first golden age of the fgc. We got a lot of garbage like World Heroes and Time Killers, but if it hadn't been for SNK I think Capcom would have had a monopoly and become complacent. Many titles never would have existed. If fighting games hadn't become popular then hidden gems like Clay Fighters would never have been made.

We might FINALLY get a game with Kim AND his sons on the same roster. Returning, my guess Rick Strowd (FF needs a boxer), Xiangfei, Ryo(Mr. Karate2), Raiden(he's a different grappler). I hope we get a Judokah successor to Jubei & Capoerista successor to Bob since he retired to run PaoPao.

I'd like to see Ryo Sakazaki but as Mr. Karate II from Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition with his Bikuri One look as an alternate. the more obscure ones I'd like to see are: -Jubei Yamada from FF2/Special -Hon-Fu from FF3 onward -Tsugumi Sendo from FF:Wild Ambition -Siber from Bikuri One

The fatal fury characters (that aren't already announced or dead) that appear the most post garou are Andy, Joe, Billy, Raiden, Mai, Kim Kaphwan, Ryuji, Blue Mary, Li Xiangfei, and Gato

Still hoping for Codename: Freeman to come back. Always enjoy the "crazy" characters, plus I liked him being a solo villain who wasn't forced some attachment to Rugal or Geese or something. My boy likes killing people, making Vega noises, and fish n' chips.

For returning chatacters, I'd say Hon-Fu, Bob, Rick, & Tsugumi. As far as Geese & Krauser, make Nightmare Geese a secret boss (we don't get those much anymore) with a regular version of Geese as an unlockable character. And have Krausers son show up (and show up in KoF on a team with Rock & Adelheid) Also, since Art of Fighting is in the same timeline, and we probably are never gonna get AoF4, I think we should have some AoF reps, even if it's more successor characters like Marco. I'd say Eiji & even though I'd be down for cougar King, maybe have a student of hers to be a rival for Preecha.
