Biggest mistake a friend made widebodying his miata. He used a saws-all to cut the fenders and it bent them all to hell from the vibrations. He also didnt paint the parts he cut so within a month every fender had rusted through. One panel had a hole above the widebody panel and you could see his coilovers.

I rear wide bodied my C63. It needed it, the rear fenders were puny. It took me about 3mths taking all the care in the world to make the cuts, rust proof, set up suspension, figure out wheel travel and get a set of custom offset wheels that sat flush to the new fender line but travelled up and down without clipping anything. I measured like 20 times and cut once, and now it looks (to me) perfect, totally OE but 50mm wider each side. The conversion is moulded but the kit hugely strengthened and I have had zero issues with it. If I need to maintain it over the years then so be it as I didn’t do this to fit in, I did it for me on a car that I doubt I’ll ever sell. Performance wise I only have good things to say, as it grips, finally. I’d say to anyone who is keeping their car indefinitely because they love it, do it!

First problem is having a stock engine with a widebody. Also having a rivet one
@Matt_Lanzer_135 жыл бұрын
Alex Strömberg you don’t want to mold your widebody unless it’s metal or polyurethane. Fiberglass or carbon kits are a nightmare when you mold them. It’s fairly brittle by nature and will eventually crack. When it does, instead of just pulling off the panel and fixing or replacing it, you have to crack it off, sand down the area it was molded, replace the whole panel, remold the entire panel, then repaint the entire thing rather than just a single panel. As someone who’s dealt with it, I’m never molding a kit ever again
@Gfin285 жыл бұрын
@@Matt_Lanzer_13 there's still reverse mount. no molding, and no rivets showing.

in my case, i did not encounter any problems with lancer wide body kits on stock engine. i went for plastic kits so it's lighter than FG and almost the same weight as stock, probably even slightly lighter. FRP fenders are lighter than stock fenders though.

My first time ever going wide was with a beaten up frs that I daily drove. The amount of care was so little, didn’t test fit, didn’t tape anything or figure out what else was needed. Took an angle grinder to the fenders and went crazy. Wrapped the fenders in under an hour and took a drill, some sheet metal screws and sent it. It’s a good thing I had no love for the car because I could fit a finger between the v1 front fender and my stock fender in some places. Looking back I’d do it again, the car was only there to do horrible stuff to anyways lol

Bro, it's not that hard, just buy the fenders for around $1,000, and pop them back on with Nuts and Bolts from the factory. I don't like the thought of cutting into my car, but since I'm already throwing away my fenders, and installing aftermarket ones on, I might just go ahead and cut them. My fenders only cost $215 for a pair on the front, and $800 in the rear.

@kerryfairyhed2 жыл бұрын
If your wheels are wider, it helps suspension a lot, Larger/wider tires improve handling and cornering, due to wider tread faces and stiffer sidewalls. Wider tires may decrease braking distances on dry pavement. Wider tires may also increase acceleration, especially in very powerful cars

If anyone can answer this that would be cool. I ordered a widebody for my Ford Fusion and it is 3m. It only sticks out like an inch after install and it goes right around the wheel well it doesn’t go downward over the tire. My plan is to put 25 mm spacers just to get it flush with the widebody. If I lowered it would it hit fender?
@FitmentIndustries2 жыл бұрын
that'll depend on your tire size and width of the wheel! Make sure to measure everything out properly, add that spacer right now and see how far the wheel sticks out with the kit mocked up. Happy hunting! -Edgar

@@FitmentIndustries Thank you for the fast reply! I got 19 inch rims I’m not sure about the rest of the numbers pretty sure it’s 19x8 or 8.5. I am Stuck between 25 and 30 mm spacers. My brain came up with a wild suggestion. A wide body kit on a Smart Fortwo could potentially make it handle a bit less wobbily (their centre of gravity is questionable at best). They are rear-engine RWD, hence if you're less likely to roll over, an engine swap is a slightly less bad idea.
@maggiepie8810 Жыл бұрын
Considering the quite stringent rules on mods where I live to get your builds road legal, I have to pass that idea on to someone who'd be allowed to build it. There are both caps on how much more efficiency your swapped engine is allowed to have compared to the stock one, as well as stringent emissions regulations plus some safety ones, which are: 1. Your swapped engine has to comply with the maximum power and rpm limits allowed by the manufacturer for said vehicle. 2. If no such information is provided by the manufacturer, your swapped engine shall not exceed +20% power and+10% torque compared to the stock engine, or... 2. ... your swapped engine is typically allowed to have up to 15kW/10kg vehicle, as long as the rest of the build pass given road safety requirements. That means that the Smart Fortwo (76 hp stock engine and ≈32 kg(70 lbs) of torque would get a threshold of 101 hp and ≈35.3 kg/77lbs of torque, using the second criteria (unless there are manufacturer limitations, as they go first). I'm also completely excluding the emission regulations, which would likely become an even larger spanner in the works. P.s Not that I would encourage anyone to put a 3l 250 hp V6 in a rear-engine budget city car with a stock weight of no more than 1550 lbs/750 kg, that's marginally more stable than a lawn mower tractor. Unless you're trying to get a Darwin Award, that is.
