I don't think that I have EVER seen a rooster this excited about ANYTHING as Steve is about seeing Margaret each day. And, the way he looks after her, letting her eat first, making a cozy nest in the blankets just for her? He is truly smitten with Margaret. Just wondering though, if they are so obviously bonded, why not just let them be together all the time? I mean, she's not a stranger to the house (having stayed there while recuperating from her injuries). Or, could you build an addition on to her "tiny house" so he could stay out there? BTW, what BREED is Margaret? She's beautiful, of course, but looks different from most hens I've seen.

Ours had an old bunny hatch as a coop but chose to roost in the tree above it. Every night there was a profession: hop on a branch, then use that to hop on top of the hutch. From there, hop to the same branch they used as their launching zone to climb to whatever branch was theirs. (With the pecking order seeming to be reflected in how high they went!) Amazing creatures. And, there's nothing in the world more precious than a little cheeping chick, and breathing on them until they fall asleep (though hafta be careful they don't try to run in your mouth! understandable as they instinctively go for warm darkness, like under their mother).

@@frozencowboy6552 how do you scientifically test if something has feelings? I'm pretty sure thats impossible, since feelings are an internal state. The best we could do is measure brain activity, but thats just a proxy. Unless they can communicate with us we have no idea what an animal may or may not feel.
@frozencowboy655211 ай бұрын
@@drhexagonapus that's not actually true. There are specific parts of the brain that are responsible for emotions feelings etc that we have identified through testing. Among other factors. This ideology and question with animals is not new. We've used this to determine certain things about certain animals. As humans we tend to Anthropomorphize everything we come across. Particularly if an animal does something similar to us, we assume it means the same thing. We are just now finding out how smart dogs actually are. They have always been mans best friend but we have never taken an extensive look at their brains until just recently.
@frozencowboy655211 ай бұрын
@@drhexagonapus as for the last comment. That is true to a degree. But it's partly a cop out. We know certain things about anatomy through science and extermination. If we know how something functions and we know without it that they function isn't possible then we can determine what had that function and what doesn't. There's also observing behaviors as well. Sorry to break that bubble to you but "love" between animals - at least in the wilds - is very much about status, proficiency, resourcefulness, strength, health and yes, even looks. We humans didn't "invent" those concepts, we're mammals; we merely do what other animal species have done for millions of years. However, credits to animals (outside of humans) for one thing: usually when the relationship is established, it stays for good (usually... even then, it depends on the species).

@@shiboof I'm sorry that you live in your own dream, and not in this very simple reality. But if you're comfortable there, you do you, too. Also, watch some animals documentaries narrated by Sir David Attenborough (he does have a comforting voice, and he's a treasure of a human being), that will also do you some good in terms of education on how nature works and animals behave with each others. That, or read some books, dunno, you'll find out.

This is beautiful, I can't describe how full of love I feel right now for animals. The intelligence of these roosters comunicating with a human to let his mate out of her little house. I am glad that I don't eat meat anymore. I feel in my heart I have no right to do so. And I feel healthier too. This little family is precious. And so is the owner of them. Many blessings to you and more to come.
