Great comparison. i had pocket 2 for 2 years and sold it half year ago. Now i have only iphone 13 pro for my videos. Can say that Pocket 3 footage look much better than P2 and definitely better than iPhone 13 pro footage. I think on the phone digital stabilisation destroys all quality of the image.

The P3 is clearly better in many areas, dynamic range, low light etc. But the picture is still good enough on the P2 and the big factor in it’s favour is the size, just fits so easily into pockets, even with the protective case, and is almost unnoticeable when filming, very discreet.

Great video. Having both, I can say that the P3 is an overall better camera by far. However, I feel the gimbal algorithm is a bit better on the P2. The P2 also has slower gimbal and zoom movements at setting 1 which is more desirable to me. I have to agree that the 4k 120 on the P3 is pretty epic. The low light performance is better on the P3 although the P2 is pretty amazing.

I've been thinking about this... I've owned my P2 for many years so I have a lot of experience with it and I know it like the back of my hand. The P3 is a superior camera in almost every way. I've been using the P3 for some time now and I honestly feel the gimbal algorithm is better on the P2. Example, If I pan around while walking the gimbal will follow behind as normal but I feel it does not center itself as well as the P2 at the end of the pan movement. I'm constantly hitting "re-center" or making a corrective movement to get the camera to face straight. Even the active tracking seems to "drift" occasionally and I'll have to "recenter" However, when that happens I'm usually vlogging in a moving vehicle so maybe the gyro data is getting skewed. I generally don't have an issue with the active tracking when I'm vlogging normally. At the end of the day the P3 is a better camera and I've been using that over the P2. -- I hope that helps

Yes it's definitely sharper. But when not zooming in to an extreme degree or printing out a large print the difference is not really noticeable. The more important thing for me is that many of my Pocket 2 photos are out of focus as the tiny display does not reveal that at the time of the shot. That's why I gave the point to the Pocket 3. It's a better stills camera.

If you mean how does the tracking fair between the Pocket 1 and Pocket 3 I can't test them side by side as I no longer have the Pocket 1, but the Pocket 1 tracked really well compared to the Pocket 2. Maybe as well as the Pocket 3 or close to it. I don't understand what went so wrong with the Pocket 2's tracking and why they were never able to fix it.

Hey there:) Thank you for the video!! I watched your videos 1vs2 and 2vs3. I don't have either of these, but I'm thinking about getting one for my next trip to Thailand. But I'm unsure which one I should buy since I don't have any experience yet. Besides, I only want to make videos for private purposes and memories. And I'd rather record nature or friends while traveling rather than vlogging, so sound an tracking is also pretty irrelevant. So if I have to decide between the 1 and 2, is the 1 better? Is there a wide angle attachment for the 1? And is the stabilization of the 1 also good or rather bad? Because I think while traveling I'll film also while walking. So which of those is more recommended? I can't decide... The 1 is also cheaper compared to the 3 and I dont know if the features of the 1 are already enough for my use anyway.

The Pocket 2 is still a really nice camera, but the Pocket 3 is quite a big upgrade. The large display alone makes using it day to day so much easier. And in evening light, it really pulls ahead.

Great comparison, definitely worth upgrading from P1 to P3. Can you confirm if the P3 does or doesn't do 4k 120p in Vertical mode? If it doesn't can you just flip the device like you would in P1 and P2 to get this? Thanks a lot!

No, it's only 4k120 in landscape mode, and yes, you can turn the OP3 sideways to shoot vertical

The only way to get that is to hold it sideways. I just tried it and it works fine that way. The gimbal works normally and you get 4K120. You will just need to flip the footage to 9:16 in post.

So as a beginner who probably wont have a cinematic KZbin vlog channel one of my main points for the comparison is the price. As far as i can tell the only thing that bothered me about the Pocket 2 is the Tracking. That looked awful in your review. But since i can get the Pocket 2 for 170 whereas the 3 for 600 my question is: is the pocket 2 a waste of money now that the 3 is out or should i give it a try? On reddit everyone seemed to agree there is no more point in the 2 but the price is actually a big Point for me.

The 2 is a great camera. The $430 difference that you mentioned is unlikely to be worth it if you are just doing every day vlogging. The difference in video quality in normal video mode is not very significant. The 2 is also more comfortable to carry because of its size, less fragile design and is cheaper to replace if damaged.

@@daveredd9832 hi Dave, I think the Pocket 2 is a great camera and the biggest drawback for me is the small screen size. I normally connect my phone so I have a bigger screen and that works fine for me. Maybe someday I'll get the Pocket 3 but for now, I decided not to upgrade. Hope that helps!

I just bought a GoPro hero 12 and I love it. I was considering getting a gimbal, but the pocket 2 can be had now for about twice the price of the gimbal. Any thoughts on whether you think the pocket 2 is worth it in 2024? It’s under $300 now and readily available. I’m mostly going to use it alongside my hero 12, but for lower light conditions. I know the pocket three has great low light capability, but it looks like the pocket two is no slouch in low light. I would love your thoughts. Do you think it’s worth it in 2024 since it’s under $300 now?

For low light the P2 will get you much nicer footage than the GoPro. The tiny display may present a bit of a challenge when you're used to the large display on the GoPro. But yes, the P2 is still the second best mini gimbal camera available and with its variable focus lens it can get more cinematic looking shots than an action camera because it can get a little bit of background separation. I think the Hero and P2 go well together for a lightweight portable shooting kit.

Zoom on the P3 is no better than cropping when editing, so it is best avoided. The greater number of pixels on the P2 allowed better than cropping results, so a point to the P3 there!

Good comparison. However, having both the 1 and 2, I always use the 1. The 2 just didn't looks as good to me, plus I had issues using with the mic input (possibly defective). I suspect that the 1 might've scored slightly higher than the 2 due to the better tracking on the 1.

Don't forget the FOV was less on the 1 vs. the 2. This can give you the impression that the 1 is sharper when it probably is closer to the same. However, even with that I would not disagree with you. I don't know why, but in many of my shots with the 2 there is seemingly a haze over the image that I never had with the 1. No clue why that is, but it drives me crazy. Giving some thought to moving to the 3. The only things holding me back are price, wish they extended the FOV more, and the bulkier size is a little disappointing.

Well I'm glad I made a good choice with the Go2 version with a company that sounds like they have a great outreach and engagement philosophy, allowing promising young content creators a chance to try their products. That's often a deal-breaker for me, I really dislike companies that seemed cheap and frankly dismissive at times and don't care for those up and coming yet end up often becoming their greatest assets.

A far more expensive camera should be expected to perform better. But for B roll videos the pocket 2 makes much more sense and much of the difference can be adjusted in editing. Plus I like the smaller size of the 2.

Another fab review 👏. Freewell have given away so many filter sets I can not find a genuine review, do you think the filters are really necessary or can a lot be fixed in post. I just bought the Ulanzi AM18 mics which are good for the price but after spending A$920 so far I'm not sure I want to spend another A$200 on filters. Your videos look great, have you used filters? 🙏

To get a 180 degree shutter angle for smooth motion blur in bright sun, filters are necessary on this camera. I use a variable ND on my mirrorless camera, but personally I have never bothered using NDs on any of my Pockets or action cameras. I have the Neewer set of NDs for this, but the hassle of carrying them, keeping them clean and trying not to lose them when using little cameras like this puts me off taking them out with me. If I could semi-permanently attach a variable ND to the Pocket 3 and leave it on all the time I would use it a lot, but being magnetic and easy to fall off; it's just a bit too fiddly for me. I did not use any filters in my reviews.

While I don't have the P3, I have the 1 and 2. I almost always use ND's on them to get a more cinematic look using the 180 degree rule. If you want cinematic motion blur, they're essential.

There is no setting that I can see for that. Are you saying that when the joystick is set to a medium or fast speed and you are panning and you let go, the motion ramps down gradually before stopping?

No, you’re dead right. Apologies. Mine comes to a super-smooth slow down to stop when panning manually (with the gimbal speed turned down) 🤦🏼‍♂️. The stick is as you said. Definitely can be fixed with firmware though, not the mechanical nature, but what the gimbal does after receiving no input from the stick. Stop or glide to stop. Have a great day! Yes I had hoped this camera would have had a ramp down after letting go of the stick, but alas no such luck yet. Manually panning with the wrist gets the desired result with practice. Thanks and no apology needed.

The P2 is a great camera and cheaper than the P3. You'll get similar results most of the time (if you aren't shooting slow motion and low light).

I upgraded my Pocket 1 to the Pocket 3. I got used to the quick video dowload to my phone and editing on the go. With the pocket 3 I have issues dowloading the footage with the bluetooth connection.. Is anyone else having this issue?

Great summary, although it could be said that some factors could be weighted more than others. Which?. Well, I'm not going there, and I don't blame you for avoiding that rabbit hole. Of course, with its one inch sensor the Pocket 3 would be better in a rabbit hole anyway. I wonder if you have had time to explore the excellent new audio feature just added - four channel audio, and that works even with the internal mics alone, because it then records a wave file separately, as well as the AAC audio in the video file, which I believe is a lossy format. So now you can use a pristine audio format when editing. Unique to the P3?. Dunno. Also it allows you to use binaural in ear mics via USB C while also recording the internals, which would give better results than the binaurals when talking to camera. So many pissibolities!

I test the mic quality briefly when doing these reviews, but I don't often use the onboard audio from any of my cameras. And so I haven't really been following the audio feature upgrades. The mics on the P3 are very good for a pocket camera, but the little projects I work on have no need for it. But yes, the more pissibolities, the better!

@@Ozpeter Yes, also I wanted to give the display more than one point because it solves more than one problem for me, but I wanted to keep it simple and as fair as possible. I could have given the P2 a point for being less fragile. I have dropped that camera and not damaged anything. I do not feel at all confident that dropping the P3 with the display in horizontal mode would leave me with a fully functional camera.
