To anyone scared. The numbing needles are the worst part. If you want to simulate that pain, give your self a quick pinch for not even a second. The only time it hurts is if the needle RARELY punctures your nerve. I’ve only had this happen once out of 11 teeth and the pain only lasts for about 5 seconds instead of 1. You’ll be fine so go fix your teeth before you regret it. The dentist gets paid and trained extensively to do these procedures so don’t give a thought about that

I feel an awful immense of pain, my eyes went completely white and my mom intervene there, telling the dentist to stop. The thing was my mouth felt numb indeed but idk why when the teeth get pulled out it’s like there’s no anaethesia effect at all. I’ve been scared to go to the dentist ever since. I’ve got 1 remaining impacted teeth now. But I still traumatize by that. I don’t have the courage going through it if I’m not fully down with general anaesthesia. @nexul7261 pediatric dentists try not to pull back baby teeth unless they have too. If a posterior baby tooth is removed too early, it can affect the positions of the adult teeth later in life. Might as well skip the root canal and opt for an extraction and implant instead. This is because with a root canal, the tooth is now dead and will most likely break some years down the road, so you’ll end up having to get an implant anyway if you want your natural tooth replaced. It’s more expensive to get the implant, but at least you won’t be spending money on a root canal that has a high probability of needing to be replaced.

@dr.a006 Жыл бұрын
@@caitlynames2652 dang! I do my best to alleviate patients’ pain the same day, whether I pull it, start the root canal by just removing the nerve and finishing the root canal another day, or draining an abscess, or at least get them on antibiotics/pain meds for a few days if I don’t have time! I recently had a grown man in the chair almost crying with pain, he wouldn’t even let my assistant take an X-ray, so I numbed him first, then X-ray, then pulled a couple teeth. He was so grateful.

Take this from experience: *NEVER cheap out on a root canal. And ONLY let a dentist whom you place 110% trust in their skill to do it.* You don't have to worry about feeling pain because the numbing is the easy part. The hard part is getting that hollowed tooth FULLY disinfected. Otherwise, be like me after a few years with my one and only root canal, and suddenly one side of your gums are swollen with a big old abscess deep in the root of the tooth. The only option then is extraction, then bone grafts, then EXTRA bone grafts to fill in the boneless void the abscess left, and then wait about half a year it seems before we talk about implants. I'm currently in the recovery process with the bone grafts......... Be careful with your teeth, we only have one set.

I've had one of these procedures before... The amount of pain that someone goes through before the procedure is unfathomable. After the procedure, you feel sensitive for a year. But it feels so much better!
@dingdong21032 жыл бұрын
It varies highly. I've had 3 root canals and only one of them involved any sort of pain. And the teeth have been totally problem free afterwards. They do tend to break easier than healthy teeth though. I've had 2 of them crack while biting something hard... Although one was assisted probably by a fist in the face.

For anyone getting a root canal.. I can guarantee you that this is NOT a painful procedure. It may look terrifying, but if you are in the position where you need a root canal you will be happy for the promise of relief it will bring. I had a root canal of the first tooth behind the upper canine. The nerve was practically dead so the dentist could actually perform a great bit of the root canal in a "first step" process without any anesthetic. He just told me to say whenever I could actually feel something. I felt nothing. Not a damn thing. Only when he was actually through the root could I feel anything.. and that was more like someone itching a spot that had been dying for a scratch. It was a GOOD feeling, but I let him know and because of that we stopped the treatment there. Two weeks later I returned for the full treatment, with the anesthetics and all the finishing touches - except there was no crown. The tooth is still the same tooth fully, with the exception of where he drilled. Again, if you need a root canal the pain you are currently experiencing is million times more painful than the treatment itself. Even if it's not painful, but more an annoyance. The treatment feels like.. honestly nothing. Maybe the teeth further back might be a bit more resistant to anesthetics, but the dentist has more than enough to make you not even feel being clobbered by Mike Tyson. A root canal is nothing for that anesthetic. Unfortunately the same lack of pain cannot be said for your wallet. It is an expensive procedure.. especially if you have more roots that need treatment.

I remember a couple of years ago I had a root canal infection. It was one of the worst pains I have ever felt (I have burst a testicle in an accident and that was nowhere near the same amount of pain as a root canal infection). It started a couple of months before, and it just was uncomfortable when i bit my teeth together (I have tourettes so this was quite common for me), and then it suddenly got worse. Everything hurt. Eating. Talking. Just closing your mouth in general. After 4 days, I couldn't sleep and my right ride of the face was swollen. Painkillers were not doing anything, so I called my dentist and booked an appointment, and she said that I needed to go down first thing in the morning. When I went to the dentist, she said it was so infected that they couldn't use local anesthesia, so she litterally had to drill a hole into my jaw to release a huge amount of puss. That was an amazing feeling. She said that this was urgent, it would have gotten way worse if I waited a day more. Luckily I had just turned 18 so it was covered by the state since I was still a minor (you are a minor the entire yesr you turn 18 here in some contexts). If not, it would have been extremely expensive.

I had root canal about a year ago and as a lot of people say here in the comments, it is really not that horrible as it looks like. Dentist tested the tooth with cold test and I could feel a little somehing on back of the tooth only. So the dentist said that the tooth looks dead and I should not feel anything. But if I feel something she will immidietely stop. And yeah after while I really felt that back of tooth. So we ended in kind of funny situation where 2 of 3 roots were dead. So she injected "killing solution" (this was totally painless BTW) to the last vital root, filled the tooth with temporary infill and we continued two weeks later. If I felt pain in the meantime I was supposed to call her or could come sooner. So if this procedure awaits you you do not have to fear anything :). The dentist is monitoring your pain level and alter the procedure on the go as you need :)

The procedure could only have been described as traumatic, and to this day still makes me terrified. I was promised I wouldn't feel any pain. They put the gas thing on my nose, then numbed my ENTIRE mouth, and soon enough I was asleep. Next thing I remember is being half dragged out by my family because I couldn't properly move, it felt like I was paralyzed basically. I didn't feel any pain, at least. 😅 Fast forward about a day or two and I realize they didn't put a crown on my tooth. My family had told me it was because my insurance would not pay for it, since I was under 18. I soon started to feel a TON of pain, now that it wasn't numb anymore, and it became severely hard for me to eat or drink anything. Then, I felt a popping sound, followed by a crunch. My tooth, not being protected by a crown, had shattered. I had to go back to my actual dentist to schedule a time to get it surgically cut out, because there wasn't enough left to be able to be pulled. I am now 21. I do not have a back right molar.

Had a root canal on my lateral incisor but never got a crown put on it and it's still going strong 20 years later.

Root canaled front teeth generally don't need crowns.

Lateral? That's not the correct description.

@@thiskneegrow lateral incisors are next to the central incisors

@@VeryNiceSmileDental maxillary or mandubular? Or you could just say upper or lower 2's. Left or Right? That's what I meant anyway.

It blows my mind that I haven't gotten to this point yet I've gone through long periods of time neglecting my dental health. I'm taking it more seriously lately but months without taking care of my teeth, let alone being addicted to vaping in the process and still have my teeth is insane

@I6zone they're nowhere near Dave Grohl's teeth and he's the reason why I even want to take care of my teeth

Had to get a tooth removed months ago because of an extremely painful abscess but it still hasn’t convinced me to brush everyday.
