Root LG TV WEBOS | Install Homebrew on all firmware | Alternate App Store | Latest Method Jan 2023.

This tutorial demonstrates how to use a crashd vulnerability to root an LG TV. It is presently unpatched and compatible with webOS 4 and above (as of 2023-01-28). This indicates that your TV should be vulnerable as long as it is running webOS 4.0 or later (i.e., a 2018 model or newer). You have the following choices if you are using an earlier version of webOS.....
RootMyTV - works on most Firmware earlier than mid-2022......
GetMeIn - Only supports a select few SoCs......
Modifying debugstatus in the NVM - Involves opening your TV and directly accessing an EEPROM IC.............
First.. let me update the TV......
update complete.......... before update software version is 03.33.27............
restarting TV.......
quick check software version is now 03.34.55...........
Step 1. Enable Developer Mode.........
Step 2. Download the required software........
Step 3. Disable Quick Start+ on the TV.......
Step 4.Go to WebOS-Dev-Manager on PC and perform these steps......
Add device........enter your host address and passphrase from the dev mode........
install homebrew.......... and confirm on the TV that it has been installed.......
Back on the WebOS-Dev-Manager, select files and jail_app.conf and delete......(The path shown at the bottom of the window should be /media/developer.)
Select Terminal and type..... touch /var/log/crashd/"x;telnetd -l sh" ......
At this point, restart the TV, i forgot to restart the TV and got the following errors....
Restart TV....
Select Terminal and type..... touch /var/log/crashd/"x;telnetd -l sh" ......
Step 5.install Putty...........
step 6. Uninstall developer mode app from TV home menu............
STEP 7. Power off your TV. Make sure Quick Start+ is disabled......
Step 8. Confirm that "Root status" in Homebrew Channel......
Step 9. Turn on SSH in Homebrew Channel and restart........
Enjoy your rooted TV!

This doesn’t work anymore. I got all the way through slid the bar to the right, and got this message. 0. connecting 1. connected 2. registered 3. No vulnerable apps found  My software version is 3.30.45 and LG will not allow any up or downgrades, Any advice would be great.

I followed the tutotial, but in Step 6: Dev Manager Setup, after i entered the command: "echo lol>/media/developer/jail_app.conf" in the terminal, i can't get any connection with the tv anymore. not in the DEV manager, but also in PUTTY i can't get a connection. What can i do to get a connection again? is there a way to go back to factory settings? I have homebrew channel installed before, now i can also not install a app. I have a connection back: Solution - Remove Dev manager app on the TV, after removal install the App again, log in with LG account, and i can make a connection again with the Dev manager app, and install the homebrew channel again. Maybe it is not possible to root the LG

Was looking at this. This worth putting on? Does it give TV more features. Maybe fixing issue's? Any other apps that i can add? Kinda want retro arch. Maybe kodi. Was thinking just getting a firestick or a nvidea shield. This TV at retail price is so expensive. I won't be able to replace it if something goes wrong. Got my c1 at some place for a good deal. Was looking to replace my 720p TV anyways. Why didn't they just put android on the TV with google play.

If you are getting a "permission denied" error, you didn't properly reboot the TV.

@@sorinini9743 I fixed it by creating a new file in notepad keeping it blank. Naming the title “jail_app.conf” and creating another file that’s also blank and naming it “jail_app.conf.sig” (if I remember correctly?). The same names that you see in the directory. And simply uploading them. And continued on with the terminal inputs. I ignored trying to delete the files after uploading new blank files cause the same error pops up.

@@quimmonzo honestly cracking the LG tv doesn’t have much functions as there is not a lot of repos available to change any features on the tv. Getting the home brew app by itself on the tv proved to be more than enough. Able to get cracked apps and free tv!

I think your TV firmware is more recent. Rootmytv dosent work for newer ones.

I can't type on terminal

When y touch tv on terminal opens a page called prisioner@tv and on the terminal said can't allocat PTY dou to system restrictions. Terminal will have limited features.
