This Irishman was one of the top Rock/Blues guitarists of all time. He's right there with Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. In my Book, Rory is second to only The great Jimi Hendrix, who Rory met in Europe in 1967 while The Jimi Hendrix Experience, were on tour for the first time. Hendrix said of Rory at the time "Rory is the best guitarist in the world that nobody knows about." High praise from Jimi indeed. Both are very similar in their styles as well.

I was blessed to see Rory twice in Boston. A friend worked for VH1 and got me back stage. Rory was such a gentleman. We talk for a few minutes and then I helped packing up their gear. In my opinion Rory was # 1 .

I love your reaction! interesting fact, that song was the encore!!! that was after an amazing 2 hour concert! The whole concert is now out on Blu-Ray. Every Rory show was like that, never an off night. Another interesting fact, that whole concert was filmed, but a bunch of the original film was damaged, never to be recovered, so the film maker, had to add all that 'filler' in the middle of several songs, in some scenes, it looks like Rory changed guitars mid-song, but it was just a different section of a different song that matched the beat of the song that was recorded and damaged. It was the first mash-up, LOL

rory was very soon in the game. 1966 he headed the band TASTE. at that time, he was a big influence for jimi hendrix, ritchie blackmore, brian may, eric clapton and many others - as they stated themselves. later he travelled the world as rory gallagher band, often as power trio, often 4 people (with keys like here). as a good irish rockstar, he drank himself to death and died 1995 in the wake of a liver-transplantation. for me, he was the biggest influence in the seventies right behind gilmour. i saw him live in germany about 1979. he was a force on stage in his own right.

I got to see him in Cali, late 70's and early 80's. Everything you said was spot on!

He didn’t drink himself to death, although he was a drinker. He developed a fear of flying and was put on anti-anxiety meds that were ‘the devil’s brew’ when combined with alcohol. He did no street drugs, and thought that if his doctor prescribed it, it was ok - unfortunately. Then he was put on steroids to treat tendonitis and paracetamol for pain. Both hard on your liver, especially combined with alcohol. The medication was the bigger factor.....the steroids compromised his immune system and when he had a liver transplant, he contracted MRSA and it took him out. What a loss.
@walkingwounded38243 жыл бұрын
@@ktristan5073 Yes, that's how I remember it, MRSA after liver transplant. He was suggested to have the surgery in England, but didn't want to fly.

Rory here reminds me in his looks, so much of another Irish G.O.A.T. Yer Maun, Joey Dunlop. First song of Rory,s that comes to mind is "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son."

Try Ten Years after live at Woodstock which according to those who actually went defined the whole thing. In fact Jimi Hendrix said in an interview that TYA's guitarist Alvin Lee scared the hell out of him.Also you might want to try Alvin's the Bluest Blues which Rollingstone magazine called the greatest blues song of all time.

Here's the tip o' an ol' iceberg that ya might be innersted in cruisin' into. Bear in mind ... this from a differnt era ... when TV comedy opened up a new rabbit hole. It's from year 3 of SNL ... when it was still widening the scope of comedy. I grabbed THIS (see link in my reply to this comment) becuz it demonstrates the beauty of genuine Community Effort: costume designers, set designers, lyric as well as joke writers, band members, dancers and choreographers, camera crew, etc. NOT just the end-product comedians. TRUE Community ... gettin' everyone involved. It's a beaOOtiful thang ta see ... no one left behind. No other hints ... just click the link in the reply below. Mask up, all.
