I’m loving this reaction for various reasons. I’ve seen various reactions to various different live versions that are absolutely brilliant. You never got less with Rory. The Irish Tour ‘74 is the definitive though. The video version crops the whole performance though and doesn’t get the whole build up. You playing the album version is the exactly right thing to do. I always felt this is a solo like no other I had heard. Walk on Hot Coals! With the harmonics that he produced to give that staccato ooch, ouch, effect is phenomenal. To my regret I only saw him once in Dublin in mid eighties, but he was intoxicating. Nobody I’ve seen gave the same energycoup,ed with mastery. God bless you Rory.

@@FrankIosue_NickandKnarf Thank you ,both of you, allow me to quote my comment on another reaction , hope u enjoy the story You know, watching and listening to his magic, i sometimes say to my self , i wish i was older enough to have been able to watch him! He came to Greece in 1982, i was 4 at that time!!! He played in a football stadium , 30000 inside , another 10000 outside trying to get inside lol. Riots with the police outside, which made them crash the concert and send everyone out since the safety measures around the band were nowhere. So the concert came to an unexpected end.. Rory stated afterwards, that he didnt want to die in a football stadium without knowing why lol unquote myth has it the that the police car he was taken to his hotel with broke down and he had to walk to get there. Riots kept on all night thats the size of the impact he had on people, uhm, and when it comes to Greeks, we can be really hot tempered :))))) Nick. (the Greek) ;)

Great re-reaction! Perfect choice of song/performance to showcase what this musical master could do. Yes, he could get more sound out his war-torn Strat and various other electric guitars than anyone else and was equally amazing on acoustic. He had a great, unique singing style and his songwriting was brilliant. Saw him once and it was transformational. He was very popular in Europe and could have been more well-known in the USA, but he wouldn't let the record companies control him - he did not want to release singles. As his song would allude - the Last of The Independents! For me, he tops all "best of" lists - a player we'll not see the likes of again. Please bring on more Rory!!!

I Rory several times... every where he went he played to packed houses. Selling 30 millions albums when albums cost real money ... not like today with music at the tap of keyboard or phone... I remember like about a thousand people queue to get into his 4 nights at the Dublin National Stadium... that is when people (real fans) would queue to see a rock star not just use ticket master to buy a ticket whether they are really interested in not. Fell in love with Rory when I saw him on a Friday night “In Concert” 1975 (remember it well - with Steeley Span - not a fan of the Span……) His sound just caught me, a kid that knew nothing of the Blues. He just caught me - started parting my hair in the middle and did not even realize why until I learned in 2000 that he had passed! Then I started re-listening to all his music and buying all the CDs. MAJOR fan (much to my wife’s dismay) and have traveled to Ballyshannon Ireland a couple times to the festival in his honor!!! Keep it alive!

Hearing this live recording is one thing, but watching the filmed performance the only word that comes to mind is "stamina!" Rory and his band deserve a half-hour intermission after playing this monster of a song. That Fender Strat has been ridden hard and put away wet so many times it looks like it's ready for the guitar graveyard, and it's so clear in the video that bassist Gerry McAvoy, drummer Rod de'Ath and keyboardist Lou Martin are hanging on for dear life during his solos -- watching his every move. Rory's face in left profile in 1974 is a perfect blend of a young Eric Clapton and actor John Cusack. I only got to see him on the TV concert shows like "The Midnight Special," so I envy all of you who saw him live. I'm guessing he might have been too busy in May of 1974 to attend any of Steely Dan's shows in England, but I'll bet he was a fan of guitarists Skunk Baxter and Denny Dias.
