I lived in San Francisco in the late 80's - early 90's. Tracy had a house there. Saw her several times around town - coffee shops etc. She was always gracious but very shy and she seemed uncomfortable with fame as sensitive beautiful souls often are.

I was born in Massachussetts . The song at the time was all true about so many. Yes a real song & weighed heavy on my heart. So many Alcoholics & many trying to find a way out of a bad situation! The first time I heard her song reminced me where I came from & learned she was from Massachusetts too. A stone away from where I lived.

I used to feel sad for her by the end of the song. Then I realized she didn’t need him to survive, to take care of her children and herself. She had been doing it all along. She lost that dream, but she had so much to look forward to in the future without him lurking in the background. A lot of women have had a man like this in their lives. They had the strength to tell them to leave and never look back. The strength and wisdom to take care of herself and her children. ❤

I look at the ending in a positive light. She's finally breaking the cycle. She got the good job and the house, so she's set down roots now. That's what she meant by "I got no plans, I aint going nowhere". Then she kicks her deadbeat partner to the curb "So take your fast car and keep on driving".
