Love this, Rory! Another banger is "Requiem" off of Killing Joke's first album form 1980. My personal favourite! It sounds far ahead of it's time, and has a heaviness to it that makes it standout so much from the other post-punk/new-wave bands!

"Love Like Blood" is one of their most mainstream tracks. Try going back in time and start with the official video for their song 'Let's All Go (to the Fire Dances)' from their 1983 album Fire Dances, then try 'Empire Song', originally on their studio album Revelations but here performed live at the Hammersmith Palais in February 1982 for which a video exists. Later you can try Unspeakable / Exit (both from their album What's THIS For...!) taken from a Belgian TV appearance in 1981, then finally from their debut studio album try 'Requiem' and 'Wardance'. You'll hear that their sound was much rawer in their early days !😉

Masterfully led by frontman-founder-composer Jeremy 'Jaz' Coleman, the band was born in England in 1978 and has greatly influenced other bands such as Nirvana, Metallica and Soundgarden. So much so that some have been accused of plagiarism. The guitar riffs on their 1984 track 'Eighties' sound exactly like those on Nirvana's 'Come as you are'. There were many years of legal battles between the two bands. Eventually Kurt Kobain admitted that he had indeed copied the chords, and Jaz Coleman dropped the suit. It's been years since I've heard this track! Thank you!!!

Don't forget how Motley Crue appears to have taken this driving riff in D-tuning for their Dr. Feelgood "hit" --- say thanks to Killing Joke (tommy lee is great but this drummer is a force)

Killing Joke were amazing First 2 albums were very dark and primal, but blistering and essential listening. Some of their riffs were later regurgitated by bands especially in the 90's and still to this day, I hear echoes of the primal Killing Joke era. This song and video is from the mid 80's when they were making a stab at being radio and MTV friendly.

I was chatting to a bloke a few weeks back who knows the vocalist Jaz! I had the chance to meet him too! I have their debut album signed by the bassist Youth. Great band. C

Another incredibly brilliant band, people requesting some bangers lately. This is mid 80s... they're post punk royalty, but they morphed into different sounds through the decades. RIP Geordie.

funny you mention Portishead because I bought this album and Portishead's album the same night because I heard them both being played while I was browsing around Tower Records
