Queen yay! Freddie Mercury was a magical being. As teens we didn’t care if he was bisexual or had an overbite. He was simply an incredible rock frontman and had a golden, gorgeous voice. Queen live was like no one else. They were all amazing professional musicians that always gave us an energetic performance that was FUN! 🤩 Thanks again!

Finally, I was at the tribute gig at Wembley after Freddie passed away. He is the GOAT, the best frontman of any band ever.

Well worth a revisit. I love it. We Will Rock You and Champions were written for the audience, they were intended to be live not really as records. Queen has a few songs that are great live and kind meh on record. Another One Bites The Dust and Under Pressure are another two that I only like live.

For info, Queen's set list was: 2:22 "Bohemian Rhapsody (of course!) - the oldest of their songs on this list, released in 1975 (Fifty years ago next year!) 5:00 "Radio Gaga" - In a way, I'm surprised neither of you knew this, as this was also one of their biggest hits and (not surprisingly given the title) got loads of radio airplay at least in the UK which is why you see the audience immediately get into it and do the overhead double handclap on the chorus, which was an iconic move. The song is a tribute to the radio era (he mentions the famous "Orson Welles' War Of The Worlds invade by Mars" broadcast which so terrified American listeners back in 1938 that they thought it was real) and actually listening to music. The video for the song contains an homage to the 1920s film Metropolis, which was the first science fiction film to introduce a lot of the tropes that became famous in sci-fi, like the emotionless android, the futuristic but oppressive city with slave workers, flying cars and skyroads, and so on) but also features that double handclap. Well worth checking out. 12:25 "Hammer To Fall- Probably the least well-known of the set they played here, but one of my favourites. The song is about death and particularly the threat of nuclear war during the Cold War (one of the lines is: "We who grew up tall and proud, in the shadow of the mushroom cloud"). A lot of hit songs were written in the 1980s about that, including Nena's "99 Red Balloons", Sting's "Russians", Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Two Tribes, Prince's "1999", Nik Kershaw's "I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me", and many others, which shows what a powerful influence it had over popular life and culture back when. 19:15 "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" - this was written by Freddie in 1979 as a tribute to the early rock and roll of Elvis Presley in the USA and Cliff Richard in the UK, hence Freddie's Elvis-like sound partway through! 23:18 "We Will Rock You" 26:05 "We Are The Champions" - Those last two need no introductions due to being so famous now! They were both released together in 1977. Anyone who hasn't already should check out the BBC documentary on the making of Live Aid, "Live Aid - Rockin' All Over The World" here on YT. Behind the scenes, before Queen's set started, Bob Geldof and other organisers were worried because they felt the public were not responding enthusiastically to the concert up to that time with donations, and things were not going as well as hoped, but Geldof said as he was up in the gantry on the way to complain to the BBC that weren't broadcasting enough appeals for money, he heard Queen start and the audience reaction, and he knew that was what was needed to kick it into gear. In addition to Queen's legendary set, there are so many other great stories from that day, like Phill Collins transatlantic performances, and the sets by U2 and David Bowie, as well as all the work behind the scenes to make the concert which was really pushing the boundaries of broadcast technology back then- possible. There were 72,000 at Wembley Stadium in London and 89,000 at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia that day, and it's estimated that 1.5-2 billion worldwide saw it on TV! And last point: that although Freddie is by far the greatest frontman and showman, the professionalism and performances of Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon are all phenomenal too.

Hi, new to your channel, great reaction, love seeing younger folk discovering Queen after all these years of Freddie being gone. I was there that day in 1985 as a 15yr old pop music lover... I left that day as a convert to rock music, thanks mainly to Freddie & Co... You need to remember that this was NOT a Queen concert or even a Queen audience, in fact they were a last minute addition to the line up. That said for 22 minutes that afternoon Freddie had close to 73,000 people in Wembley and almost 1.9 billion watching on TV globally eating out of the palm of his hand. I'm now a 55yr old woman who's been to 300ish live rock concerts over the years, everyone from Guns n Roses to ACDC to Uriah Heep, Meatloaf, Status Quo, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi (48 times 😂) to H.I.M and the 69 Eyes.. but that 22 minutes right there is still by far the best 22 minutes of live greatness EVER! And one show that has never left my memory! God bless you Freddie and Thank you for the music.. RIP you legend 👑👑👑

Those who had any inkling about that in general could pick up on his fabulousness. Some people just don't think about that stuff, tho. But those who knew, knew. 😂😂😂 I saw these guys in 1982, and absolutely one of the best I ever saw. I didn't want to go see them, because their music had changed to more dance music. But my sister absolutely insisted I go with her, so I did. 3rd row right in front of Freddie's piano, until Freddie said, "Screw security! Rush the stage!" I was then standing on my seat about 20 people back. But it didn't matter because these dudes were LAYING IT DOWN.

Yes, of course we knew Freddie was gay Rory. We didn't care - that was his business. Did you notice that Brian played three different guitars during Crazy Little Thing Called Love? Brian said the acoustics were so bad that they couldn't even hear one another, that's where their professionalism as a band and rehearsing the set paid off. Four great musicians on that stage.

Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 68 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: FUN FACTS FIRST: The kisses are for his Mom who was watching him on Television. MATTER OF FACTS: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person! NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience. NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THIS THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?). NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him. SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW: nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves! LEAD GUITARIST: Brian May, is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! They made out of an old cabinet his mother was going to throw awayThe included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)! I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music! LAST INTERESTING INFO: When he is waving his arm it is to tell the cameramen which way he is going bc he’s moving around so much. When he kicks his legs backwards that is getting over all the cables, that are on the Stage. TV Cameras were not cordless back in the day!! And, “We Will Rock You”, is actually a Prelude to “We Are The Champions”. (It is really all 1 Song!) You just, truly, saw “ The Greatest Show On Earth!”

Freddie had a bad throat and was told by a doctor not to perform. He later said it was like gargling with broken glass. However, Queen did and they smashed it. Eact act was given 20 minutes and if they went over they were cut off. Queen sang more songs than the others and finished exactly on time. Each of the band members wrote number 1 songs. They also all had University Degrees and not in music. If you do not like their songs why react to them and stop swearing all the time. It just shows you have vocabulary.
