This most certainly hit home with me a little bit. I was the "Roscoe" at work. The old guy that never questioned a shift and knew the plant inside and out. My first spinal fusion was in 2012. Millwright days were done and they made me a parts guy. 18 years turning wrenches had some value when you knew nearly every part number of the plant. 2020 another level of fusion sidelined me at home with my wife. Between covid and healing at home I did not realize the blessing of being "broken". Fall of 2021 my wife died. While I cannot call it "retirement" the last 16 months of being home with her before she died may have been our best. 40 years of marriage with her wasn't enough.

There is always a Roscoe on most crews that refuse to stop working , my father is 82 and still works cutting trees , a little slower nowadays. I asked him “pop when are you going to stop working ?” He tells me “ if I stop working and stay home I’ll be dead in 6 months . I’ve noticed his thought process has come true with a few people I knew . If his body isn’t moving and doing something he thinks his body will shut down . There might be some truth to this . He doesn’t climb big trees anymore and just yells at the crew. I’m 54 and he has always been that arguing, grumpy guy that hates change . God bless him !

AND WE LIKED IT!! WE LOVED IT!! On a serious note though they had to run daddy out and made him retire cause he wasn't gonna go. They made him retire at 65 and he gets bored af. He doesn't want to rest and relax. He wants to work and fish in between but he's had 3 back surgery and a neck surgery after retirement and he can't get around like before. He's a tough old man at 72. The day after his 1st back surgery he walked a mile around the hospital and after my back surgery I barely made 100 steps and that was with help. He want even take the pain meds he just takes ib profen. He did immediately after but he hates the feeling. They don't make men like that anymore and look what's out their now. I'm thankful to have been raised right with manners and I carried a many a ass whoopin.

7 appliances in over 60 years of marriage. If that was the only form of attempted murder that’s not that bad actually. That’s once every 8  years, 7 months, 13 hours, 42  minutes and 51  seconds there is a murder attempt. That is a 0.0003110 chance she might try to kill him on any given day. Compared to most marriages I seen that were far shorter this is the example to stride for.

I know a truck driver who has a beautiful house out in the country , wife and 4 kids the whole deal . Yet he lives in his truck on the road and only goes home for holidays like Christmas and Easter, one or the guys asked him what the secret to a good marriage was ? With a straight face he tells us they try to see as little as possible of each other . It's her house , her kids her life etc . But it's my truck . When he shows up its all lovey dovey for 48 hours then they start to give each other the shits so he takes another job and hits the road again .
