Before this video (and still after) I’ve always had this theory that Rose and all of the rose quartz gems were the original guards of the zoo, not the famethyst. It would make sense that that’s why Rose was so empathetic towards humans (emotional support like how the famethyst offered after Greg refused to be choosened), why she could manipulate organic life and plants (to feed and heal humans), and why her weapon is a shield (to guard them or to control them without hurting them, kinda like riot shields that police have today). Also, why else would all the rose quartz’s be bubbled up in the zoo if it wasn’t where they were originally stationed? I wrote it all out once and this is like, an EXTREMELY short summary. Honestly I could go on for hours about this. I am a little bit iffy about some details of my theory after seeing this video, but I’m still holding on tight to it.

I remember someone speculating that PD was made on Earth and that was why there was a huge hole in Russia on the SU map. What if those resources went instead to Rose? What if the Diamonds created rose quartzes (including Rose) to be a motherly figure/defender/caretaker to Pink because they knew she was immature physically and mentally? Rose may have been the perfect specimen, like how Jasper was the perfect quartz soldier of her type of gem, which could explain why she is so strong. The others may and likely do but they either did not know or could not access since Garnet said that Rose felt real love and sadness for her friends before she could heal them. We need a Rose creation SU episode. Especially since we know now that Pink was an amateur at best with being a Diamond (regardless of when she took possession of the Earth colony). I wonder why Rose referred to Homeworld as her home though if she was made from the Earth? Maybe all gems instinctively consider HW their base, even if they weren't made there. I also wonder if our Rose was one of the first gems Pink made since she did turn out so well. I can see Pink choosing her personality and skill growth because she wants to prove to the other Diamonds that her court is meant to be reckoned with. Maybe the dreaming ability has some kind of connection to the healing ability? I mean Roses healing ability can heal gems, humans... physically, but what if the dreaming ability is meant for „healing“ or more like treating mental damage? Maybe it could „heal“ corruption? This is something that’s been in my mind for some time now, it’s plausible but we don’t know yet if corruption is a natural thing for gems to happen. I’m personally not sure if Jaspers corruption for example was because of her fusing with a corrupted gem or her mind „breaking“ of frustration. There are good reasons, IMO, against the theory that Rose Quartz was made on the Earth, despite Bismuth's words. 1. Bismuth said that Rose was made "right here in the dirt". She didn't say "right here", period, nor "this world", "this planet" or "on Earth". I believe she is describing the material Rose was created from, that she wasn't something unique like the Diamonds, and not that she was made on this planet. It's most improbable that our Rose was made at Bismuth's forge instead of a Kindergarten. 2. In the Rose's Scabbard projection, Rose tells Pearl that if the rebellion is successful they could never go home. We know from Amethyst that Pearl isn't from Earth. Some contend that Rose's words meant that, although she was made on Earth she'd spent so much time on Homeworld that she regarded it as her/their home instead of the place she was made, which I consider most unlikely. 3. Greg's question and Rose's answer in We Have To Talk. 4. Perhaps most important, prior to On The Run Pearl and even Garnet evinced horror at the idea of the Kindergartens, and made slighting remarks against Amethyst based on her origin. It's inconceivable that Amethyst would feel shame if she came from the same world and under the same circumstances as their sainted leader, that she wouldn't throw "oh, yeah? I'm from the same place that Rose came from, so get off my case you Homeworlders!" right back at them. Finally, while this isn't provable by canon, if Rose really did emerge from Earth it would materially lessen her sense of sacrifice and nobility when she decided to rebel against her lieges to protect this planet. If she was made on Earth she would have the grounds of defending her native soil, in the same way that Amethyst does, rather than from an altruistic spirit.

1. Sure. that's a possible interpretation. 2. Er, doubtful. Gems seem to consider Homeworld to be their home, not their place of origin (averted with Amethyst). Even if she was made on Earth she would have regarded HW as her home. 3. Fair enough 4. Ehhhhhh, I don't think Garnet & Pearl knew their comments were affecting Amethyst (obviously they have been doing this for a good amount of time), nor do I think that Rose's origin would have ever been brought up while she was alive, since both Garnet and Pearl know it and I cant seriously think Amethyst would have cared enough to ask any relevant questions. Also probably would have worked against her rather than helping her knowing that she came from the same place as Rose but is everything she's not, a mistake that never asked to be made

I love your videos and Steven universe. Yet I have a theory about rose myself, that personally I haven't seen anyone explore much yet, despite the theory being obvious. My theory is that rose quartz' are Doctors or medical type jems, which explains her powers : healing abilities , floating which allows her to get to damaged gems that are trapped or still somewhere. The dream-ability could also help in her role on homeworld by making her able to find and connect to her patients, like her ability to resurrect other life forms as well as protect patients with her shield and bubble. The ability to create portals between beings cam also link to the fast travel to damaged gems that would be needed. There are more points but I'm still not sure if this is a good theory but oh well. Thank you to whoever took the time to read this. : ) EDIT: I feel like her ability to create sentient plants can help her to defend aswell as her other defensive powers whilst healing the gems.

Come to think of it, I think its kind of weird that a bunch of amethysts are taking care of the human zoo. I also wonder if Rose quarts gems get that fascination of organic life from their Diamond, or if they were made for a task to be done specifically for the zoo. Like maybe picking up humans. I think the amethysts we see at the zoo are the "least valuable" as there are quite a bit of differences between them. It seems like Blue is just holding onto everything of Pink she can and kept the ones who would be otherwise decommissioned. The Rose Quarts were also kept in Pink's old place as Blue refused to shatter them.

I think by homeworld standards, our Rose Quartz was defective. I imagine that Rose Quartz gems on the whole were given more empathy/connection to organic life in order to care for humans at the zoo and manage life on earth. I think our Rose Quartz was defective in that she came out with “too much” empathy that came with healing powers and led to her valuing humans over homeworld (a clear defect within gems).

SATmaster728 Scholly Steven in a sense is a fusion. So a lot of his abilities are more so towards himself and not fully related to Rose. I'd say the only abilities that he has that's special to him only "Healing Spit", "Resurrection Tears", "Human Fusion" and "Dream/Mind Wandering Powers". I don't see how those abilities, mainly the dream one could be influential for Rose Quartzes. If Rose Quartzes were made on Earth I'd like to think they weren't supposed to stay on Earth to be fighter type soldiers. If anything they're meant to take care of humans and Pink Diamond, they'd basically be like caretakers/defender type soldiers. This makes sense because of Steven's abilities all being defensive rather than offensive like Amethyst and Jasper

Technically gems do require entertainment, why else would the diamonds and other high class gems bother with pearls, and have song be a big part of their culture. It's just that with any top heavy society all luxury is funneled upwards. They do not require food like humans do, though, and that's why the fact that pink bothered to put so much effort into the human habitat is so notable.

I did not notice this, thank you for pointing this out. At first I suspected that gems could not entirely understand an anthropomorphic perspective untill they emulated the form of a human for some time, or had a perspective-changing experience, much like that of Garnet. I realise now that this might not be the case for all. I have theorised that what we now call "gems" were a culture of entirely natural tool using creatures (likely about as smart as humans) that advanced far past us, creating extremely compact crystalline computers (something that human scientists have been working on), and finally creating some form of artificial intelligence, either imprint, or from scratch. The first of these might have been the Diamonds, as the early "gems" might have been made of woven carbon-nanotubes. (Yes I did say they were crystalline a minute ago, you read that right. Different gems.) Your observation points to gems having more of their origin left in them then I thought. Thank you again. One more thing (I know, too much!) I think the rose quartz gems were made as scientists, and that Pink Diamond made them to exploit the abilities that gems have by default-and take for granted!-, things like mass projection, something that all gems have, and yet few can use it for anything other than generating their default weapon. This physical ability is not new, nor is flying, these are things that only a pink quarts could do only because they could change their mass and physical projection at will, rather than automatically. This physical freedom, along with exposure to an organic race -humans-, might have led to our own Rose Quartz Universe to organise a rebellion to protect Earth, and the wealth of autonomy that it represented. I do agree that the Rose Quartz gems got a lot more attention than just that though, the "healing" ability, whatever it is, seems like it would warrant it's own gem, like the future-sight of a Sapphire. The rose quartz gems were likely to have been made to learn, gather information and manage complex tasks on their own, as Pink was still very young for a Diamond at the time. This might be completely off base, but what if pink diamond wasn't shattered but instead mated with a human, it could explain her lack of gem shards, the lack of knowledge on her death, and also the reason everyone thinks she was shattered. It could also explain why rose knew her and steven couldnt exist at the same time, even though the gems say hes the first of his kind. Pink and Rose could have planned the shattering as a cover so the crystal gems could have a chance at freedom as could she. Or it could be spun that white diamond could have known about this "flaw" of caring to much for humans and planned to shatter her. Either way pink diamond's care for humans could be and will be a very interesting plot device.

Wait... I think I know which Kindergarten Rose Quartzes are from. In Save the Light, during the argument between Peridot and Squaridot, Peridot calls her a "Zeta Kindergarten clod". This isn't a Kindergarten we've heard of during the series. It IS possible that the Zeta Kindergarten is located on another Gem colony, but it's still a possibility. Tell me what you think!

All the points you made help to reassemble by beliefs on the events of the shattering. Picture this Pink Diamond calls Rose her most powerful quartz soldier into her private quarters and tells her something. Pink: "Rose, you are perhaps the most perfect gem I have ever seen. You were made to be an agent to assist me in the conquest of my colony, but I think you know as well as I that this world is too beautiful to fully colonize. I want to stop but I'm worried the other diamonds will take everything, my planet, my armies and you my guardian soldier. I won't allow it. I need you to help me with something. War starts, Pink willingly helps the rebels put on a show for a while, then yellow and blue arrive and start going for kill. Pink contacts rose in private again and says "We have no choice they'll never stop, Rose I want you to destroy my physical form in a grand action for all of our warriors to see. They will see this and believe I am gone for good, when I reform they will be gone and this will be our planet forever. Unfortunately, someone else found pink diamonds gem before she could reform and did the darkest deed. Of course this is all just me talking. And maybe pink told rose break my gem and you can heal it after all is said and done

I think slice if otaku is wrong about pink only giving our rose all of those powers. I think all rose quartz had the powers simular to Steven's powers. So when Rose rebeld and her powers made to hard to defeat her. Pink decided to bubble all Rose Quartz gems put them in containment. Similar to how the crystal gems bubble corrupted monsters. After the war she'd probably planed on fixing the rose quartz by weaking them and making them more obedient.

I think by saying defective, they're using the word inaccurately in the context of the show. Defective in Steven Universe is "lesser than expected, mutated, anatomically or gemetically wrong" like Amethyst is. Gemkind already has a word for the ones that don't fit the mold: off-color. Though seeing the off-color gems on Homeworld I understand the confusion, it seems like the two words are interchangeable. Or rather, defective is a subordinate of off-color: not all off-color gems are defective but all defective gems are off-color.

When I think of Steven’s dream powers, I, honestly, see that as Rose’s magical abilities not giving Steven that power, but, enhancing his natural human powers, so to speak. For us humans, things such as astro-projection (The ability to detach one’s spirit from their body) or even future vision is all but impossible. Yes, these abilities aren’t necessarily tamed within our species, but, they are a known phenomenon, rather you believe them or not.

Do we really know Rose is from Earth? Yes, there is a lot of evidence pointing that way from Bismuth's remark to Rose being part of Pink's court. However do you think Pearl would have known about Rose's kindergarten? What about Rose calling Homeworld home in her conversation with Pearl? She is going to stay and fight for THIS planet. And lastly, a minute detail but, Yellow was specific when she told Steven that Rose was able to hold her ground on Earth. This implies Rose has been elsewhere.

This is astounding! I’d never thought about how much of a genius Pink really was! Actually now that I’m listening to love like you at the end of your video (yes I know the crewniverse already stated anyone could be singing about any other character in the song) I feel like I’m listening to Pink singing to Rose/ humans. Being something amazing to humans but still defective in the eyes of homeworld, wanting to be half of what humans think she is to gems. Then she starts to feel guilty that she has to do what the diamonds did to their planets, killing them and their inhabitants. Thinking how bad she is and how she’s nothing like humanity. Pink began to think of ways to do right by the organic life on Earth and does so. Her final step: making Rose Quartz. Seeing her emerge, shaken by how long it had taken her to form. Great video! Pink's desire for the Zoo may have been to showcase trophies, but then again this is something that we know only from Garnet, and that despite her elite position at Blue's court Sapphire may have but slight knowledge of the doings at Pink's, so this may be just a possibly-mistaken conclusion of hers. (Ruby of course would know zip about Pink, and barely anything about Blue.) I can't help but point out how Pink is depicted in her mural as bursting forth, implying some kind of dramatic change. There has to have been something drastic and fundamental happening to Pink if she had any role at all in the ambitious plan for colonizing Earth, or establishing the Zoo, or even creating the Rose Quartz series. Having the Pink seen in JM as a leader would be as incongruous as putting a first-grader in charge of a Fortune 500 company. If the show ever goes dark about Rose's history, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that she was in charge of setting up the Zoo and stocking it with humans with the best intentions, only to see its inmates die off in horrible ways--starvation, malnutrition, genetic aberrations/inbreeding, territorial violence--because as a Gem she would have no knowledge of nutrition, genetics or human psychology. In response, she applied herself to research on these matters so that eventually her findings could make the human colony viable, and automated so that it could essentially function by itself for millennia, but this work may have been the catalyst in causing her to sympathize with Earth life in general and humans in particular, which would lead her to be a Crystal Gem. This scientific knowledge may also be the reason Rose alone could shapeshift or modify herself to be able to bear a Gem/human hybrid child. While I'm reluctant to say that our Rose was the ultimate in RQs, I am willing to say she could be in the crème de la crème, among a handful intelligent and successful enough to be awarded her own Pearl, and to have a favorable reputation that could attract followers from the very beginning of the rebellion (even if they were just Pearl and Bismuth, and despite Homeworld's propaganda, especially after Pink's alleged shattering). While Rose's personal paramount goal was the preservation of Earth from Homeworld devastation, the liberation of Gems from the Diamonds' caste-system and rigid social stratification was no less important, and I'm sure that the vast majority of Crystal Gems fought for Rose on that basis rather than for the sake of this planet's life. From Yellow's conversations with Peridot and the JM Nephrite, Holly Blue's treatment of her garrison and Pearl, Jasper's ill-disguised contempt for Peridot, Peridot's own initial regard for Pearl, and Aquamarine's belittling of Topaz, it seems that Homeworld tradition includes treating any Gem below your caste with contempt while expecting slavish groveling from them. Our Rose was perhaps an outlier in that she treated all Gems with at least civility and due respect.

As for the dream powers, steven couldn't have gotten it from pink diamond unless if rose was pink diamond and that is very very unlikely. Steven came from rose so that means that rose had dream powers. Now from there maybe pink diamond some how gave her dream powers or maybe all of the rose quarts had dream powers.

I think that Rose was defective, but in a good way. Instead of shattering her, they respected her. They treated her like an elite, not like a normal soldier. So when she started the rebellion, everyone was shocked, and the diamonds bubbled all the other Rose Quarts away because they were afraid some of them might also have some unexpected powers. That might also explain why her rebellion was so memorable. There must have been more, but this one was more important not only because Pink Diamond was shattered, but also because she was shattered by such a strong and powerful gem.
