+kelley Sciarrino I use to cut at 24mm and then I got 10 bars out of 1 loaf. But I cut bigger bars but get a decent size sample bar. The other bars are about 3-5mm thick and picking them up normaly brakes them in half - soap is not strong.

@DeanWilson2 жыл бұрын
If your making soap with Melt and Pour base then its quite easy. Cut the soap up into chucks, melt in microwave or double boiler then pour into soap mold. If your doing cold process soaps then I suggest checking out Soap Queen TV on youtube. She has tons of tutorials from start to end.
@cherylharris26509 жыл бұрын
How do you melt your soap I use a microwave.. I see you have two pots JavaOne of those candle pots .I also notice there were line on your soap before you cut them. How did you mark them ,so each is the same size.
@DeanWilson9 жыл бұрын
+Cheryl Harris I use a crock-pot filled with water which melts the soap base in the pouring pot. I use the same for making candles. I use a ruler and make out 1 inch sections. It's a 24.4cm loaf and I get 9 sections (1 inch) and some extra

Can you hold down the divider so it won't spill and put in one side at normal temperature (120-115) and then once you've done that can the other side be hotter so it'll merge,blend/ stick to the other side and pour that side in? Would that work?
@DeanWilson9 жыл бұрын
+mikaapaigee That might work, I found that the divider I was using was being pushed out every time I poured so it will have to be something holding it in place. That should work. Give it a go and let me know. Remember you can always remelt melt and pour soap.

I want to try my hand at MP. I'm used to CP. Packaging them is almost the opposite. With CP you need to let them breath at least 4 to 6 weeks before packaging them. I've heard that with MP you have to seal them up right away to avoid "sweating"? How do you package MP? Can you shrink wrap them or just put them in a nice plastic bag alright to do?

@DeanWilson9 жыл бұрын
+Chris Fairall Hi Chris, it will depend on the fragrance you use. In most cases I use only 2% FO. Check with the supplier first. Per 1000grams (1kg) soap base, it would be 20ml FO (2%).

For Melt and Pour base I use a liquid titanium dioxide from AussieSoapSupplies.com.au it only needs a few drops. But for Cold Process soap I use 1 tea spoon per 1kg batter. CP takes 6 weeks to cure - depending on the oils you use.

Do soaps need lye? Why do some use lye & others not?
@DeanWilson2 жыл бұрын
For melt and pour you dont' need lye. Its a special soap base you can buy from your soap supplier. If you are making the soap from scratch like olive oil, coconut oil then your need to add lye. But do lots of research and use soapcalc to get the right amounts of lye otherwise you could burn the skin.
