As a 25 year old black man, one of the first scenes I saw on television that challenged racism in America was on the Roseanne Show when she was at the checkout line at a grocery store. I definitely think her tweet was taken out of context. Roseanne is MANY things...but a racist has never, and still never, comes to mind. So Sagisli - when did she apologize? I admit, I haven't followed this too closely since watching the first reboot of the original show, I thought it was BS and unfunny and stopped watching. But everything I have seen on the subject, never does Rosanne admit being wrong and apologizing for the tweet. She wants to try to explain it, try to show how it wasn't racially motivated, but never does she just admit she was wrong and actually say I...AM....SORRY. Lots of excuses, lots of lame reasoning, but nothing else. I have known plenty of people over the years that were "chemically enhanced" (who doesn't in today's world of "better living through chemistry") or who have suffered from depression and/or other mental issues - they don't run around making comments like this. There are many examples of making acerbic, often-mistaken wrongfully taken jokes. But this? There isn't any basis for it. Even in this interview - her chance to get out there and actually apologize, and yet - she doesn't. She explains how she "wanted to..." and again lots of weak excuses, but no apology, no explanation that makes sense, nothing.

The original show dealt with endless controversial and difficult subjects such as racism, gay rights, domestic violence, women’s rights, teen sex, marriage and family issues, etc. etc. now days every show has gay people, but back then Roseanne was the only one- it was probably the first show to have gay characters. We have to look at people’s actions and how they live their lives. We cannot allow one thoughtless comment to undo a person’s legacy. Many celebrities of all ethnic backgrounds have said things they regret. We all make mistakes. Roseanne was a brilliant, funny-as-hell show, that managed to stay funny while taking on difficult issues. This was the lady who made it happen. The show proves that she is a very progressive person and, most certainly, not a racist. Blessing to you Roseanne. Your show made people laugh and think. Stop smoking.

She is on the autism spectrum, and speaking as someone who is on the spectrum, she is very misunderstood like a lot of us are. It is very difficult, to say the least. I find myself often censoring much of what I say because when I haven’t it has come out wrong and I have been ostracized because of it. So it is very relatable what she is going through. Especially the part about needing to organize. When shit hits the fan the need to organize and put things in order is overwhelming.

our world would be a better place if we all educated our self in the different ways of life. learn to respect and love one another beside our differences. except what is different and be blinded by color, race, and respect people religion. then maybe we could live in peace. but unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world. Screw cancel culture what she tweeted was freedom of speech, and she was right. I support her.
They were already chomping at the bit to get rid of her. ABC was just waiting for an excuse to fire the star of their biggest show. It's telling that so many men in Hollywood have gotten away with unspeakable crimes (which were common knowledge long before #metoo was a thing); but one old Jewish lady told a shitty Twitter joke and she's blacklisted within 24 hours and not even given a chance to apologize or make amends. Louis C.K is making a comeback right now despite the fact that he committed actual sex crimes against female co-workers! But Roseanne is just too "racist" to allow her to keep her job!? I doubt ABC really expects it to do well, that's not the issue... Roseanne was just one of the actors on the show, all of those other actors were signed up to make a certain number of shows... if one of your coworkers got fired for something stupid they did outside of work and your boss told you "you're fired too" (essentially what they would be telling all those other actors if the show was "cancelled") you'd probably look into taking some legal action wouldn't you? I'm sure actors like John Goodman, Emma Kenny, etc. turned down other things to do Roseanne... The word "cancelled" was used by ABC to distance themselves from Roseanne and demonize her... I would be willing to bet the plan to continue the show without her was immediate, or face a shitstorm from everyone else involved
