Been a pleasure meeting your team and working on this together, a great bunch and passionate about crafted goods. Other than a great boot the difference that is made to each Ranger that will get a new pair goes a lot further than one thinks or understands. Hell yeah, this is exactly what I need. My Lems Boulders are great, very comfortable, but it's hard to justify the cost for a boot you can't have resoled. You've made a durable, repairable barefoot boot from a know and reputable manufacturer. Impressive.

I have the leather waterproof boulder boots with the 'pedestrian' style outsoles with hundreds of miles on them. This year I had my cobbler "resole" them by sanding them down and cementing new vibram zegama 1443 outsoles, which coincidentally and suspiciously look like rose anvils design😅. I exclusively use them on dirt/gravel trails but the contact cement approach seems to be good enough for my usage*. I purchased the outsoles($30) and the cobbler charged $35.

Thanks to the information from this channel, I bought myself a pair of Razorbacks after trying numerous classic US work boots, and I'm incredibly impressed with the quality and comfort. For the price (I believe $179 USD when I got mine, 2023), you simply cannot find a better quality boot anywhere else. After just 2 days of use, they fit my feet so nicely and I can tell they're going to last me many years :) I particularly like that the lower profile keeps the boots from pinching where it would crease if they were 8" or taller. Highly recommend!!

I’m so excited to give these a spin! My sneakers gave out after 6 months so I was done with sneakers at work. I love my Iron Rangers and my Mocs, but before trying heritage boots I was on a barefoot kick because my feet never hurt in my Xero or SOM’s. Having a real boot that’s actually built well AND is zero drop is gonna be insane! Especially because I’m a believer in the leather forming to your feet now. My iron rangers are so comfortable despite it being solid veg tan leather.

placed my order this morning, I can't wait! I've become totally converted to anatomical shoes and I can't wear my Vans anymore without horrible foot pain. I've got a few pairs of sneakers I like, but I was worried about what would happen when I had to face the Colorado winter. I was looking at Bearfoot Bruin boots, and while they're nice, I wasn't totally in love with them, and they're really starting to push my footwear budget. These Jim Greens look like they'll be perfect, and I love the look and construction! I'm thinking I might have to swap the outsole for something more snow capable, but I love how easy that will be. Thank you so much for this collab, it's a total dream come true for me!

@@paddywiggle You think the toebox on these would be wider than on a boulder boot? It doesn't look as if it is to me. By the way, might be relevant that standard advice on the boulder boot is to go a half size or even a whole size up. I got my pair of these a few weeks ago and really really like them. I’ve wanted a zero drop, minimalist, good ground feel boot for a while. And when I say boot, I mean a real boot. You have delivered that and I am thankful. With that, I would like to share my feedback on two aspects of the Barefoot Ranger. First, these boots have a slight “clown shoe” feel. If you could cut the sole just a little closer to the welt I think it would make a big improvement in the aesthetics. Second, in a short boot like this I would like to see all eyelets, no speed hooks. These boots can be worn loosely with no laces at all. With all eyelets it gives the option to tie a knot in the ends of the shoe laces so the boots can be worn loose but the laces are still contained. If you made the boots like that, I’d buy pairs in every color you made available.

I'm a great fan of practical design in workware. Functionality, price, longevity and such concerns must prevail over visual design. Any design which was honed for a purpose always turns out very elegant, a pleasure to look at. Rangers are doing essential work, it feels my heart with joy knowing that somebody invested their skill to make their work more comfortable.

generally if you're carrying heavy gear you'll want more ankle support (if you're not carrying heavy gear then ankle support moves the strain from your ankles which have evolved to take that kind of strain to your knees which aren't) but if you've got low ankle boots and you need that support you can use ankle/shin wraps.

I would have likely added one feature - a D-ring at the bottom of the laces and a Velcro tab at bottom of the heel, to attach gaiters. Reference how it is accomplished on the Altra Lone Peak 5. This allows for added protection from debris and brush when needed.

I appreciate that Rose Anvil is honest about the strengths and weaknesess of this boot. They are great but not great for everything. I have a pair of the regular wedge-soled JG Rangers-- they are great for working around the homestead, low-country hiking, running around town, and such. I like them a lot but as mentioned they are not really suited to rough country hiking (my foot sloshes around too much in the wide-toe box). Also, for me, the sole is too soft for long hikes on rocky terrain (or ladder work). Nevertheless, I like them a lot, the high gusset is good for keeping cheat-grass off my socks. They are light weight compared to hardier workboots and so on as described in the video. Also, I appreciate the purpose built feel and construction. These are boots not fashion accessories. Thanks for bringing Jim Green boots to my attention (in your older videos).

This reminds me of how in World War 1 and early WWII, US soldiers wore ankle high boots, but had canvas leggings that tied on over their upper legs to keep pantlegs in tight and protect their lower legs. Seems with the way these boots are designed around the upper, if someone needed more upper protection, they could easily adopt an idea like that, and add some separately when they need it.

In my time hiking with barefoot shoes I have learned that wearing sock are not helping your feet. I need to wear one size too big because of how crazy wide my feet are. I found that once I ditched socks I no longer slid around in the shoes and more space was just more comfy. After switching from "proper" fitting classic hiking boots and socks while heel striking to no socks barefoot with forefoot strike, never got blister or busing on my feet.

Fantastic video! I know what my next pair of boots will be. I live in West Texas and wear a more traditional cowboy boot but there are times when I am out hiking around working and those are not designed for it. These Rangers are working in the same type of environment I am in and this might meet the needs. When I am in places like Palo Duro Canyon or down in Dinosaur Valley I switch to my mountain hikers but they are very heavy and made for rocks. Too often I find myself split on sand, rocks, hard packed earth and mud near any water. Keep up the great work! I'll grab a pair early next year when the budget allows and feel great that its helping hard working individuals doing fantastic work!

My only concern is the African Rangers use the same last as the Vellie, and I bought a pair of those where I get heel slip like crazy. I have to tie them down super tight to minimize it, but over the course of the day, the heel slip will return. Also, my toes or something bend at a weird angle in those boots, so those end up hurting too. I've never had a problem like this with a pair of shoes that otherwise feel like they fit me perfectly? Like, if I size up then I feel like I'd just get more heel slip, and if I size down then my toes will suffer. For reference, I bought a 9 and am a 9E on Brannock. It's a shame too, cause I otherwise really like the brand, and I love the way the vellies look. I'd really wanna try these Barefoot African Rangers.

I wish I could find a natural foot shape shoe. I have a wide foot. I wear Red Wing 2414 boots in a 12D. But I also need a sole plate to make it more rigid from the arch back. I wear Altra Olympus 5 shoes, they have a 0 drop heel. My feet love them.

I don't think I could wear these due to the total lack of arch support, but some of their other shoes look nice.

I was all excited until finding out they only go up to a US 14. Damn having big feet.
