Does it make a difference if I vent to atmosphere compared to catch can? What about the low side outlet of the valve cover? I see you just have a silicone hose and a small filter on the end, I’m running a vtt gc and not trying to spend the $800+ cad it takes to get the full catch can kit here in Canada.
@kern417 Жыл бұрын
The vent on the front of my valve cover came with my turbo kit so that's why I didn't need to install that part. But if you install this kit then it's always going to vent to atmosphere. The catch can just catch oil, but it still has a filter on top to vent to atmosphere.

Careful with this, I lost a set screw because it came off. Build quality is great, but that set screw is just too loose to stay on with engine vibration in my opinion and experience. Ymmv. Hopefully I don't find it in my engine if I ever have to lift the valve cover.
@kern4173 жыл бұрын

@rossrperformance3 жыл бұрын
Hey Louis, Are you currently only running 1 of 2 set screws? I've had mine installed for months and the screw has never fallen or vibrated out. The silicon orings should absorb most if not all the vibration and prevent it from backing out. The most important thing is to make sure the set screw is installed flush against the cap and no further in that flush. I state this in the instructions but sometimes people forget and do thread it in too deep. All the set screw is there to do is prevent the cap from coming off but it doesn't and isn't supposed to touched anything besides the cap. If you want to try a longer screw you can get an M3x6mm or longer and that should be long enough to eventually touch the PCV wall area but when I was testing everything out before release, I tested multiple lengths for the set screw and felt there was no need for a longer one. For peace on mind, I may just start supplying longer set screws on top of the standard length for future sales to prevent this issue. Also for peace of mind, unless you had your oil cap open or the PCV hole area exposed when it fell you, it won't make its way into your engine. Like you mentioned with vibration, it should be long gone by now lol

Each turbo setup is different so my kit will accommodate each turbo setup. When it comes to BigBoost and DocRacing they usually have a VTA setup on the high side (PCV Breather) and delete the PCV breather hose so that part of my kit is not required for their setup. If you have a hybrid turbo where the PCV Breather is still connected then my kit will include the extra hose and PCV Breather Adapter. I like the kit but it doesn’t eliminate failure on the intake port side, which could cause a boost leak into the crankcase, blow oil out the other side of the vent system if crankcase pressure were to spike .
@kern4173 жыл бұрын
There is nothing left to fail. No check valve, diaphragm, etc. Air is always venting out the breather.
@eugenecountiss65033 жыл бұрын
Sure there is, if the sonic welds break or plastic cracks on the underside of the valve cover, since the center port is sealed boost pressure from the intake is just going in and out now unused space. Think about it, every time you get into boost it’s pushing on a plastic portion of the ccv system that was not meant to hold pressure.
@kern4173 жыл бұрын
The valve cover does not experience anything that it wouldn't without the delete. The entire crankcase is designed to experience pressure from the crankcase. The only time it would experience excessive pressure is if you didn't have adequate venting, which is why multiple port options are offered.
@eugenecountiss65033 жыл бұрын
I just explained what the valve cover experiences different… There is no diaphragm to allow pressure vent so boost fully pressurizes the passages and space ( inside the valve cover itself) not the crankcase. It’s a nice kit and looks like it works well, great option if you don’t want to take the valve cover off to mod. I’m disputing you’re claims that blocking off the center port the diaphragm regulates and adding vent/s makes the system bulletproof due to the fact that the valve cover could fail, allowing excessive crankcase pressure / flow under boost or vacuum which would be a pcv system problem. I guess you could consider the blocked off portion not part of the ccv anymore since it’s sealed and what’s left functioning is bulletproof. Also if valve cover fails in that case a portion of the ccv system that was not used caused a failure.
@kern4173 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't think you understand how it works. The PCV is the valve. It makes sure that gases only ventilate when they should. By deleting the valve, you're deleting the PCV. There is nothing left of a PCV system that can fail. This is effectively the same as an aftermarket valve cover with just a filter attached. If you're saying the valve cover can still fail, that's a separate issue. Valve cover gasket issues are common on BMWs with and without turbos. This isn't going to make the failure rate worse, If that's what you're implying.
