Indonesian are born bilingual at least, then learn English in school and other Foreign language as German, Japanese or French in high school. I learned German in high school. I speak Indonesian, Javanese, English, Romanian, currently learning Italian. I am working in German company. Yeah, most Indonesian are multilingual

I think part of the reason why is because we Indonesians are very easy to pronounce words from other languages. Most of our parents speak Indonesian and their regional language, but for us the newer generation I'd say we can pronounce English, Spanish, Italian, French, Dutch, and German easier than our Thai or Vietnamese friends, let alone the East Asians. Our tongue is just so flexible to be adapted to other languages.

The thing is that even Hitler did not sound that angry all the time. They just use his most outraged moments from 2 hour long speeches. He was a psychopath but at the end of teh day he was also a politician and a demagoge who knew that you can not scream at your audience for two hours straight. Also even today when you hear germans in american movies you can hear that they are native german speakers but they always talk in a very angry, loud obnoxious way that no german would use in every day life. Its almost like these american directors tell them to exeggarate it to the point where it becomes almost cartoonish. In germany we don't yell at each other 24/7.

We (Indonesian) are born as a bilingual at least. We speak our national language, Indonesia, and also our tribe/ethnicity/race/area has their own language or traditional language because Indonesia has many numbers of those things. For me, it's Sundanese because Sunda is my race/ethnicity. We use Indonesia language to communicate with other people in different race/ethnicity/area (for example, I, Sundanese, use Indonesia to speak to Javanese, Malay people in the country). Then we learn English in elementary school and highschool. Almost all schools in Indonesia have English as their subject. Even sometimes, high school has two subjects of languages, English and the other (like, Chinese or Japanese) as English still a must.

From what I heard, Indonesians are actually one of the most favored foreign labor force in East Asian countries because of how adaptible they are to new languages compared to most other countries And yet despite this, and being the 4th most population in the world, the Indonesian diaspora in other countries is also one of the smallest in the world. Most Indonesians would choose to go back to Indonesia instead of staying permanently in the countries they worked/studied in. I always find it interesting how one of the most equipped people in the world to do well outside of their country, is also the people with one of the strongest nesting culture ever. Indonesia could easily become as world famous as Thailand or the Phillippines if only they're more willing to stay in the country they work/study in for the international media to see more of their culture on a daily life basis, and make Indonesia more known
@klaraAlb4 ай бұрын
Well historically, there weren't many slave/labour forces from Indonesia 'exported' to other countries during the Dutch colony other than The Netherlands itself and Suriname. Also in general, most Indonesians grew with a very very high family/community value oriented. It makes them feel the need to keep coming back despite their successfulness abroad or the then ugly-state of its country/government. They are very rooted and bonded to their family/friends. I for one, currently live abroad and always dreaming to live outside the country, but will be back to Indo in 2 years time. Never tought that the distance will only make you love and miss, not everything, but most of it. As an Indo, i speak Bahasa Indonesia as native, my local language Sundanese, English my second, learnt Deutschland/German at school and took 4-years course with it, and speak daily Japanese.
@blubirbs4 ай бұрын
The reason why most people go back than stay in the countries they worked/studied in is paperwork. It's it's hard to get working visa or PR because our country is just that weak w/ foreign relations that it's a lot easier to just go back than fight to lengthen the stay.

Indonesia is polyglot warehouse naturally, by default since born at least know 2-3 languages (mother and father native languages plus Bahasa Indonesia) then if muslim will learn how to read Arabic letters for Quran learning (just can read but doesnt know the meaning), history also showed the first president of Indonesia is polyglot as well (between 7-8 languages), the education system too encourage people to learns many foreigns language, English is fixed courses then (optional in govt public school other languages is Japanese and Germany).

I’m also Indonesian who speaks more than 2 languages. I speak fluent English, Indonesian as well, and also Javanese as my daily conversational language. For additional, I speak basic Korean and Japanese for business purposes since I’m currently working at 4 stars hotel. And I can say that I’m proud being a polyglot without even having a formal courses since I was a kid. So, I think that being multilingual in Indonesia is a common thing because our people are actually fast learners.

This is really cute. I imagine Genesia and other Indonesians would learn British English, but like Seong-Ji, she has an American accent. Also, it may be from her spending time in Germany, but the way she says words like "it" and "this", she sounds like she's from SE Wisconsin, where we have very heavy German ancestry, the other parts of the state sounding more like Minnesota and the Dakotas. Edit: Also "other than", the way Genesia says it to the girl from Minnesota.

i’d say most indonesians have american accent because of pop culture influence.

What makes you think we learn British English in school? We are not former British colonies like neighboring Malaysia or Singapore 😅 Honestly, most Indonesians don't even know the difference between American and British English, but I believe in school we learn "color" instead of "colour" and "realize" instead of "realise", so I guess we learn American English? Don't take my word for it, though, as most of us don't even speak English 😂
@EddieReischl4 ай бұрын
@@kilanspeaks That is all true, but Germany and France learn British English, and they were never British colonies. I say this as a proud American, British English is a better template for learning the language and the grammar, so most countries use it for teaching.

@@EddieReischl Our other neighbor, the Philippines, learn American English and they are some of the best speakers of that language in the region, so I think it doesn't matter which version of English you use, it's all about actually making the effort to learn the language (which we really don't do in Indonesia, LOL). And Singaporeans and Malaysians still speak English with an American accent these days even though they learn British English in school, because who watches British shows anyway? 🤷♂️ In Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore the only ones who need to care about British English are those like the writers, journalists, lawyers, etc because they still need to write in British spelling.
@EddieReischl4 ай бұрын
@@kilanspeaks Yeah, that makes sense that the Philippines would learn American English. I always just look at our English as shorthand and British as the full version.

Chinese people are so nice about people learning their language. Like her Korean was so good but she only got a 7, and her Chinese was really really basic but she got 8-10. As a foreigner in China, you can basically say 你好 and people are impressed

I regret that my Japanese and Chinese skills aren't very good, but this video motivates me to learn more about them so I can become fluent like her 🥳 Languages are awesome!

Most indonesians speak at least two languages, bahasa indonesia and local dialect. Plus, some muslim part speak arabic. Plus, urban people speak engliah as well.
@rhea28114 ай бұрын
local languages are actually has different meanings with dialect. Dialect is just uhmm different in accent just like the American said "a" more to e and so on. Javanese, minang, and other local language just different
@dap63394 ай бұрын
@@rhea2811 that maybe what we call it "accent". While "local dialect" is more than an accent. It has its own rules and vocabularies, simply like a language as we know normally.

I loved this video, the polyglot Indonesian girl and all the Asian girls are lovely, polite, lively and intelligent without exception, plus videos of this group playing with cordless phones, and guessing songs, foreign movies and cartoons together. The Indonesian Austronesian girl has real German, Statesonian, Chinese, Korean and Japanese connections. Excellent group needs to play more together on all Korean channels out there. Oh ternyata bikin lega karena ada juga toh yg pernah ngalamin lupa ama bahasa yg pernah dipelajarin :D Nice video!!!
