Re: Ago's TZ750...there is an old story Kal Carruthers told years ago. He said in '74 Yamaha sent him a couple of the new TZ750's (They would have been TZ700's at that point in time) for the four Yamaha road race American factory riders to test. the four riders were Kenny, Ago, Romero and one other that my mind can't remember. Kal said Romero and the other factory rider "could not ride it"...he then said Ago "could ride it", but then said Kenny was "multiple seconds faster per lap".

I never got to ride a 500 or 750 but i raced in two of the prelim amateur 350cc races at Daytona in '75 and got a podium finish in the 2nd one (a 50 miler). that 3rd place gave me enough points to earn my AMA Expert/pro license right there at the track and though i hadn't quailfied for the 200 i was allowed to race as a back filler. So I started at the back of the '75 Daytona 200 on a TZ350 (D). We ended up losing 6th gear towards the end so i only had 5th gear for the high banks, but we did finish in 27th place.

On the two YZR500s they use modern treaded tyres. The two 0WL9 bikes in the video run on modern Pirelli slicks.
