I'm not going to roast your telsa choice because of its quality or anything like that. I WILL roast your choice of Tesla because of their alleged anti-right to repair stance.
@rossmanngroup3 жыл бұрын
Roast Ford, Toyota, GM, Nissan, and Honda while you're at it! They all paid millions of dollars into the anti right to repair advertising front called coalition for safe and secure data. This front did nothing but air 30 second fear mongering ads of mechanics breaking into people's garages or following unsuspecting women into creepy dark parking lots with eerie music playing in the background, implying that you would be raped and beaten if the right to repair bill passed. All this bill did is allow you to continue to have an independent service center work on your car. ballotpedia.org/Massachusetts_Question_1,_%22Right_to_Repair_Law%22_Vehicle_Data_Access_Requirement_Initiative_(2020) scroll down to donors. They deleted all traces of their false advertising after the bill passed. It will be archived forever in my video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6DdgZxnptJ7apY NEVER FORGET!!! Watch those commercials and tell me it doesn't make your blood boil that an American car company that was bailed out with YOUR tax dollars spent over FIVE MILLION DOLLARS producing these FUD garbage commercials. At the end of the day it's similar to the "it's easy to solve right to repair, just don't buy apple" fallacy. Apple is a bad actor but this has permeated almost every company at this point. None of these businesses want you to have options outside the dealer and if it were legal for them to lock you in to being stuck using their in house, overpriced service centers, they probably would.
@agraham573 жыл бұрын
@@rossmanngroup yeah you're not wrong about that. I do remember your video about those ads, very unsettling. I keep getting emails from my local GM dealer trying to get me back for service. I watch your board repairs because I've retired from all that but always enjoy watching them, especially when it gets a bit more technical (fault finding, like the owie test. I've been there.) The constant corrosion problems really get to me. (I've edited the details down - it got too long, but could talk for hours on this) I worked on aircraft electronics that spent some time in Hong Kong harbour and then were left in storage for 6-7 years. They still worked perfectly when tested. (Cut the story of recertification) Conformal coating is cheap and, erm, it just works™. Looking just now, I can buy it retail and it'd still be pennies to protect a board from liquid damage even without scaling up to production levels. When 'water' damage is the main threat, they install tell-tales that probably cost more than the prevention. Green or greed, Apple (et al)?

Small towns around where I live in South Dakota are not great places to find local work. Aside from things like gas station, grocery store, or bartender, the only work to be had is at the CO-OP, as a hand for a farmer, or perhaps some labor job like construction. Most of them are full of elderly people, and any youths tend to leave for a bigger city where work is available. Keep in mind that the towns I am talking about are like 50 - 300 people, so more like a village - but farming is ubiquitous outside the larger cities. The small towns within 40 miles of a big city may have more youths and young adults, but most of them commute to the city for work. The only thing the rural areas have going for them is that the people who live there are polite, courteous, and friendly - but that ain't gonna pay the bills.

Well, I can tell you my decision making process that got me into a Ford F-150. Cost of ownership. They're the most common vehicle sold in North America, meaning parts are available everywhere both OEM and Aftermarket. No expensive specialty shops. And dealer only parts exist but they're not common parts to break. I've also found in the 8 years I've had my truck, that most times, the parts are cheap due to the fact that they're everywhere. That said, it's also been the most reliable vehicle I've owned so far; having owned an Eagle, Toyota, and a Chevy so far. That said, I'd buy another if I were in the market for a new one. There was one common issue that came up that was a non-wear with this truck. The issue is 100% caused by poor maintenance (bad oil change schedules) and more likely occurred before I had the truck. I bought it used at 99k miles, it's now just over 250k now. Another issue popped up that is annoying but it's still original wear parts that are wearing down at this point. Otherwise, mechanically everything works beautifully and feels just as good as the day I got it if not better.

I’ve never had any mechanical failure with any of my Mazda’s beyond something little like an automatic window motor. They don’t offer any hybrid that I am aware of but with the Skyactive G platform I get 360 miles per tank city driving and I paid 16k for it new in 2012. I always advise people to consider Mazda. That’s just my own experience.

It's not much different than the ECM module costing $2000 being swapped out at the dealer, when they could diagnose it and replace a bad chip in the module. It's just simpler to swap out the whole board. Diagnosing something takes time, which equals money.

I would love to hear more about how you source these parts. I'd also love to learn how to find places to rent time on a hot air station. Last macbook of ours that broke, I took it apart very carefully with like 50 post it notes for each of the screws and other parts, cleaned all the corrosion I could find with rubbing alcohol, and then put it back together because if that didn't fix it, there is nothing I can do with a normal-sized soldering iron, no schematics, and no spare parts. It unsurprisingly didn't work and I messed up a tiny plastic speaker plug, so I ended up sending it to someone on eBay to get repaired who seemed to be working out of a garage in LA. He fixed it on the second try, surprisingly for what I paid. I know where to buy schematics, but iFixit only seems to sell discrete components (e.g., logic board). Next time this happens, if I know I will be able to order the components I need and can find a rework station to rent time on, I would love to do the repair myself and most likely spend a day learning to use hot air / fixing my mistakes. That one laptop is an A1466 with the 820-00165 logic board. I can see that your website does not sell parts -- quite understandable, I've heard your stories and even in my labs in school people would blame burnt ICs on the suppliers -- so who does sell these? Ideally at low volume for a customer who may only need them once every few years? Is this even in reach of someone like me?

Hey! Louis, if you need a new place of work, might I suggest coming down to Columbus, ohio? Or the surrounding areas, Ie, Whitehall, Dublin, Reynoldsburg, or canal Winchester? Upsides would be readily available clientele, as we have a apple store here, as well as a Micro Center that sells Mac products, cheaper rent, compared to New York, as well as cheaper tax rates (7.5% sales tax here). If you go to Columbus, you will be near the international Airport allowing a slightly more varied clientele. Downsides? Its....interesting here. In Columbus if you choose downtown, you will get the rich snobs, be dealing with hellish traffic, as whoever designed downtown Columbus was a idiot and made all the roads and streets there tiny!

Tesla has the same problem with consumers basically not being able to get parts and do their own repairs, but at least they do give better service and fix more themselves unlike Apple and give better warranty in that sense as well. And Tesla's are pretty damn good cars with at least good range and drive great, and look better than most electric cars, and have more options (as standard) to what you can do with it, for settings and sensors etc.

I'm looking for a list that has voltages for all the ppv's and p3v's and STD's and AT&T's that are around. I'm working on an A1398 that was running, and would randomly shut off. It would turn right back on and run fine again. It did this for quite a while, and not I get nothing but a Brief green charge light, which switches to orange and DONE. No fan spin. I have G3H with 12v and U7501 seems to have no shorts and be enabled where it should be (i think)... its pulling 0.028amps from my chinese made bench supply, for what thats worth... I was following along with another video, but you found "pubes" in it so you covered it in flux and changed the chip.. This macbook hasn't been opened before me today. I'm hoping this video will pickup where that one left off, but you seem to stop testing when you find the issue.. (as you would in a repair shop.. lol) but for someone who's problem maybe a little further, if you keep going with what you would test next, you would really help people like me solve problems a little easier.. Thanks for the videos!!! I'd love to take a board repair class if you bring them back...
