A powerful, compact backswing is essential for creating good contact with the ball.
If you bring the club back too far in your backswing, you're overswinging.
In this video, Craig shows you how to stop overswinging for better contact so you can hit more fairways and make more shots.

As one of Craig’s students, I can attest to his helpful guidance, and rotary swing is well worth it. Been working on this stuff for a few months now, and my game has already improved to nearly breaking 80 consistently. It’s for real, just have to put the time in, which isn’t much more than 30min a day. So thankful to have found these fellas

Great video. It is a take-off on the very old book drill (holding a book between your hands) but in the Totary Swing protocol. I also find that after a good shoulder shrug a good posture hinge is critical. On the site Chuck goes through a protocol to ingrain it in your swing. It is the Namaste move. If you put your hands in front of your chest like a prayer and you round your back your elbows flair. If you do it right the elbows stay pretty tight to each other.

Hi, Craig--Your video makes perfect sense to me. The idea of stop using your arms in the backswing, also not thinking about the arms, really solidifies the concept you are presenting. Thank you.

Craig, Interesting. In just about every video I've seen, it showed, in the back swing, the arms were parallel much lower (about waist high instead of the chest). I can see how this could make a world of difference. Thanks

This is the one video that has finally helped me reduce the length of my backswing, which caused a ton of inconsistent shots. With a consistent and stable stopping point, I was also able to better control weight shift and rotation forward. Thanks!

Seeing this video after playing a round of golf yesterday. I'll share my experience that validates this lesson. I hit a ball in to the woods just off the fairway. I had to play (what I thought was) an abbreviated swing to get out of trouble and get the ball back in play. I brought the club back, hit the ball and, to my surprise, it carried all the way to the green. I played the rest of the round with that swing. Direction was not always consistent, but I lost nothing on distance.

Awesome Larry. Really is remarkable how far a ball can travel without using as much effort or size of swing.

Excellent, combined with your previous drill for downswing, it is an excellent combo. I'd like one that focuses just on the hand and wrist postions from just before trail pocket on downswing to through the release. Regards.

How many reps do you recommend working this drill?
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 2 жыл бұрын
All depends on your prior movement patterns. Some players may need more reps than others. Always strive for at least 100 in any training session when trying to make a big change.

Great video. But Chuck Quinton recommends in the dead drill to pull the right shoulder muscle to the spine in the backswing. You do not recommend this. Why?
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct and this is occurring in the drill. Maintaining the trail arm straight will aid in getting the trail shoulder behind you. It's happening in the drill without you thinking about it. Just another drill to achieve the same motion you describe.

Nope! This feel is not the same. In the real back swing the right arm started bending much earlier
