The whole notion of having a meth lab in customer's housing was the most genius idea in the show, second being the massive laundry room setup. The most damning point is when he has the perfect opportunity to throw Hank off his trail. Hank is convinced that Gale was Heisenberg. And that was that. Gale's dead, Heisenberg's gone. All Walter had to do was keep his mouth shut, keep a low profile, and keep cooking. Hank and the DEA would think that it was just someone copying Gale and would be chasing non-existent leads and Walter could complete his contract with Gus and then go his separate way. Instead he couldn't keep it shut, had to put Hank back on his trail, and then lead to Hank sniffing around Gus's operation and well... yeah.

The music was so brilliant In this scene and all of the cooking scenes, what I love most is the progression of taste in arrangement which corresponds with the progression of lab quality throughout the series. In season 1 and 2 they were still making meth in the trashy RV and the music reflected the quality of the lab, in season 3 and 4 the lab cooks were accompanied by orchestral instrumental arrangements to reflect the professional business-centered laboratory provided by Gus and in season 5 and this scene in particular the music reflects the grandiose nature of simply cooking for yourself without the added constraints of deadlines or threat of law.

The show made it clear that Walt had no care for human or even children's lives for that matter.
