Vince Gilligan did such a good job of cutting the stress and dread of these characters' circumstances with an occasional moment of "maybe everything's gonna be alright." He just peppered them in there. And it was just the right amount.

not that vince gilligan isn’t really important to the series but you also gotta give credit to the editor and the specific writers and director for this episode vince gilligan is hardly ever actually behind the camera and making those kinds of decisions

The whole notion of having a meth lab in customer's housing was the most genius idea in the show, second being the massive laundry room setup. But this is elegant, having all your equipment in modular cases, plug-and-play, and then easy to pack up when done and then move to the next house.....simply brilliant.

It's kinda crazy how Walter manages to mess up every good situation he gets. The money from Elliot, cooking for Gus, the fumigation solution. He screws up a good opportunity and somehow manages to salvage it just to mess everything up again until everything was gone

The most damning point is when he has the perfect opportunity to throw Hank off his trail. Hank is convinced that Gale was Heisenberg. And that was that. Gale's dead, Heisenberg's gone. All Walter had to do was keep his mouth shut, keep a low profile, and keep cooking. Hank and the DEA would think that it was just someone copying Gale and would be chasing non-existent leads and Walter could complete his contract with Gus and then go his separate way. Instead he couldn't keep it shut, had to put Hank back on his trail, and then lead to Hank sniffing around Gus's operation and well... yeah.

The music was so brilliant In this scene and all of the cooking scenes, what I love most is the progression of taste in arrangement which corresponds with the progression of lab quality throughout the series. In season 1 and 2 they were still making meth in the trashy RV and the music reflected the quality of the lab, in season 3 and 4 the lab cooks were accompanied by orchestral instrumental arrangements to reflect the professional business-centered laboratory provided by Gus and in season 5 and this scene in particular the music reflects the grandiose nature of simply cooking for yourself without the added constraints of deadlines or threat of law.

The show made it clear that Walt had no care for human or even children's lives for that matter. Considering that they ran an air tight operation, I would venture that they probably actually did debug the homes after, just spent an extra 2-3 days cooking than the usual debugging, complete guesses on my end, but Walts downfall was never amateur moves like not debugging homes after cooking in em.

One thing that always bugged me about Breaking Bad was the filters that they wore on their respirators. I have always found it funny that I first saw this blue meth back in 1979 when I moved to Albuquerque. Didn't know what it was and never tried it but the guy selling it had no shortage of customers. Just saying

Theres now a non zero number of houses in America that have had meth cooked in them by a fake fumigation company. Because i am positive somebody has now tried this being inspired by this scene.
