I learned how to drive in my Dad's 1972 Chevy custom 10 long bed fleet side with the original 307 small block and three on the tree. It was yellow and white with the side molding on the bottom. It sure was a good old truck. Made many hunting and fishing trips in it

My dad had a 69 originally a step he switched to a fleet, six pack now smb 3 still on the tree , I’ve got it now but some one ran into him destroying the front end and cab , Hope to fix some day almost 60 . He’s gone now like to build it back a stepside . Steering wheel 200. Horn buttons bout same five years ago.

Another neat thing is the frames of the 67 through 72 gm trucks were the same chassis as the model before. The 63 through 66 chassis are the same. So it makes it easier to get parts. And most GMC trucks came with leaf springs on the rear. And Chevrolet was mostly control arms and coil springs. But either truck could be ordered with leaf's or coil springs back then.

Once again I'm drooling over TX scrapyard trucks on FSG. In Maine all the cab mounts, cab corners, floors and rocker panels on 1967-72 GM trucks were SHOT after 5-10 winters on road salt. I smiled at the "private property" comment. When I was 14 my old man put me behind the wheel of his shiny three-year-old C10 "Scottsdale" for private dirt road driving lessons. (They didn't call them "square body" then, but it was a 77.) I completely get how The Kid feels.

Happy 13th Kid, glad to see teenagers behind the wheel on a farm driving long before they have to so they can be familiar with obstacles and get their coordination down before highway time like we used to do. I bought a nearly mint ‘70 long bed C10 with 73k miles many years ago for $500, guy who sold it couldnt find the title and got sick then moved out of state and after a year or so searching for him when i finally found where he went he had passed away. Family wouldnt help me get a title so i told all my Chevy friends i was going to part it out, one of them had his uncle come from Connecticut to NC and he bought the bed, complete cab and inner/outer fenders for “he named his price” $3500. I sold the rest of the front end and fuel tank for $500 then a random guy stopped buy and bought the super clean rolling chassis for $1200. All my buddies were mad that i parted it out but i told them that this single truck gave its parts to bring 6 trucks back to life. Connecticut guy used those parts on 3 trucks, chassis was shortened and used for a short bed truck, front end to another and gas tank to a guy that wanted OEM. Everybody was happy and not a single bolt or screw was left on the ground, never knew it was more people like me that hoard factory screws, clips and bolts lol.

My Grandfather had a 1969 C20 in the late 70's when I was a kid. He was the only man that ever paid attention to me. It was magical on Friday nights when he pulled up in that truck. It was GM code 525 Saddle with a white top. Even (as a kid )asked to buy it from him when I was old enough. Sadly he eventually sold it in the mid-eighties and he himself passed in 1988. I found the truck in the early 90's but they wouldn't sell. She is probably long gone by now. In March of this year I finally bought a 1970 C10 and am going over it and painting it Saddle as I go. I'm almost 52 now and if I don't do it now I never will. The feel of these trucks just makes me feel closer to him even though he has been gone over twice as long as I knew him. It's like slowly coming home again. I'm glad you passed on your love of these trucks. The newer generation needs to keep them alive.

Actually the GMC trucks were badged as Custom Camper. And the Chevrolet was Camper Special.

My favorite trucks are the 64 through 66 Chevy and GMC pickups. Iam currently after a factory four wheel drive model that is in restorable condition. Half ton or three quarter ton.

Those steering wheels from 69 through 72 always crumble away like that. But you hardly ever see the earlier model steering wheels do that. Strange! GM must have gone cheaper on them in 69.
